SMS Smileys for E52????

Hello,

Normally on Nokia phones you can get smileys in an sms message

This doesn't seem to work on the E52.

How can I get smileys for my E52 ?

Thanks

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

Smilies aren't included in nokia's business smartphones.

To get the feature you will need to install an extra application, but it's not free.

You can get it here: www.myasms.net

You can try a demo before you buy.

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

Went to a lot of trouble deciding what mobile to buy. Thought the E52 was best for me. Read all the reviews etc. Nobody mentioned anywhere that there were no Smilies. It is taken for granted these days that Smilies are there. Have to say I was disgusted. Suggest all should write reviews mentioning this fact. Is it that Nokia thinks business people are all dull, dowdy, and don't like fun. Get a grip Nokia thats not smart, and takes the Smart out of the E52. Thank's for the website Psychomania I'll give it a go.

Re: SMS Smiley's for E52????

We had a customer where the employees could choose between a Nokia business phone without smiley's and some other vendors phone with smiley's. All the female employees refused the Nokia entirely based on the lack of "smiley-functionality". Smiley is such an integrated part of communication between men and women which Nokia should accept as a fact. Because you do business it doesn't mean that you want to apart from your surroundings (family and girlfriends).

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

I'm a business person and I am dull, dowdy, and definitely don't like fun.

But on a more serious note, these are indeed business phones, focused on the needs of business users, most of whom will not rank 'smileys' very high in their list of priorities when purchasing a phone.

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

Unbelievable. No Smileys for SMS writing and viewing?! Smileys are just for Private Use??

In my company we use smileys in emails very often. It's a simple way to lighten up the topic or briefing. It makes communication easier! So why not in SMS?

I have the E52 for a few weeks. Before it I had the 6230i for many years. So far there are 2 important features the 6230i has and E52 not:

  1. visualized smiley support
  2. foto camera sound could be deactivated

And the 6230i was also called "business phone".

For the camera sound problem I have just found an freeware app. But why do I have to search for apps? Why does Nokia delete features the users are used to?? Why does Nokia just decide users don't like visualized smileys anymore? That's standard!

Let me explain advantages for *business* matters:

1.) Smileys allow faster reading of SMS

When smiley is just displayed as characters, it can happen that the carriage return is just between the smiley :
-)

Thats harder to identify. If you like phrases: "Time is Money"...
People like visualization. We are used to a round face. Every app, every email client, does support those smileys. The eyes can read SMS faster when there is a symbol between the text instead of characters :smileyhappy:

2.) Smileys allow lighten up strict topics

Smileys allow "emotion" in written text. When I get a command from my boss and he adds a smiley after his text "Here is a task for you ... :-)" then it lightens up the topic. You know what I mean?

What would be a correct product policy?

When Nokia has the opinion that users don't like smileys, then the default option for visualization is off. And in the settings you can turn it on. That would be ok. No problem. But don't just delete features which Nokia users are used to!

I fail to see that I have to pay for features which are standard... More and more I am in doubt about the quality of Nokia phones. I have to research in internet for features the older nokia phones already had. That sucks.

Nokia, please provide smiley support with the next software update for Nokia E52.

If Nokia doesn't like providing it via update then a freeware download app would be also ok. Although it is strange that you have to install apps for standard features. But please provide that standard feature.

@Nokia support employees

If you sympathize my concern - please give your boss a hint that there is an interesting post in the Nokia Forum! Thanks :smileyhappy:

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

[ Edited ]

I know this topic is quite old, but I decided not to create a new one, as it's about what I exactly want to write.

For those who want smileys/emoticons/whatever they call it:

You people use arguments that smileys are fun, etc. Some even say that lack of them forces to change phone model. That's just ridiculous. It's like deciding to not buy a certain make of car, because gauges or horn don't exactly fit your taste. I just cannot express how dumb that way of thinking is (to be strict: I am disconcerted by the opinions, not by people who post them).

And to the crux of the problem...

Now you have your graphical representations, hurray. However it's a shame that everyone's forced to use them. ATM I'm checking if I'll be able to apply a little rompatcher something-something to disable them. That's not the way it's supposed to work.

Yes, you may think I am dull, dowdy, etc. - I don't care. Have your graphics, I don't mind, but have some respect to the people who like the classical emoticons. I did grow up in times when people used to talk through AmIRC (although I'm probably younger than all of you) and I do see difference between ːP ːp ;P and ;p. Same for i.e.. ;> and :smileyembarrassed:

Graphical representations treat them as one - and that's oversimplification. Just give an option to turn off/on those (people who own Nokia's on Maemo can even change the graphics to match their taste!) and do fix the "CR problem" (when text emoticon is split in two because of lack of space - it's not treated as one "word") - adding a few exceptions or even an option in SMS menu to manually add them to "non-splitting" category is something a programmer can do during lunch break with coffee cup in one hand...

Also - as a cry of sorrow - why Nokia programmers can't fix what they've broken?

-Activation of N-gage games (I've paid for them and I can't use them! Is that what you call "fair"?)

-Notifications about calls & messages (phone used to tell there was a call/message from certain person, now it just tells there is a missing call/message)

...and those are just 2 of many, many things that should be fixed immediately. Instead of that they're adding graphical emoticons and say it's an improvement. It's so sad... :/

Re: SMS Smileys for E52????

Pufcio, couldn't agree more!!!!!

I bought a Nokia E52 in July 2010. However, recently I had a hardware problem and when I got it back from the Nokia store, they had updated the firmware and I realized that I was forced to use the graphical representations when sending an sms.

Just like Pufcio, I grew up using mIRC (I am 25 years old btw) and I enjoy using simple smileys. Before, I was able to write a sms without the forced representations, and right now I am disappointed because I don't have an option to turn the annoying graphic smileys off.

Obviously, I don't intend to change my mobile phone because of that, but I am interested to find a way to disable the feature. Anyone has an idea if this is possible?
