Problem with E71 battery

Hi all,

I have purchased new E71, the problem is that the phone is charged very soon, aprox. in 30 mins. and the battery lasts about 2 days. I have changed the phone, thought that it was phones problem, but same with the other. I have taken the battery to service centre and they told that battery is good. I updated the firmware but problem still exists. Can you make some advice?

Re: Problem with E71 battery

2 days on an e71 is actually not bad at all. do you have programs running in the background? do you have email set to retrieve automatically? those things consume a great amount of battery. so unless you are saying that your phone lasts two days on standby, doing absolutely nothing then it is normal. its actually a good amount considering how intense of a mulittasker it is.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

No programs are running and nor I have email, but I wonder why it's charging so fast? is it possible to charge in 30 minutes? I think that 2 days are very few as it's standby time is 17 days aprox...

Re: Problem with E71 battery

yes 2 days in standby with your phone doing absolutely nothing is not right, there must be some short or something in ithe phone making it not charge correct and discharge. it is a large battery i would excpect it to charge for some 2-3 hours. from nearly empty to full.

yes you are correct. I don't think that it is short inside as I have changed the phone an it's with it. I think the problem might be in firmware...

Re: Problem with E71 battery

I’m very disappointed with my Nokia E71 phone it keeps re-booting itself after 10 -12minutes W/O touching it . I was told by Nokia tech dept to download new software, I did that & still doing the same thing. Sent it in to Nokia twice for service they keep saying nothing is wrong with the unit. I called twice to Nokia ask for Mgr. they said he or she will call, I have been waiting over a week never heard back from no one. I will never buy a Nokia product again I’m very surprise for a large company like Nokia not caring.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

I agree it is not a short otherwise the phone or battery would have been fried already. If you think its firmware, then reformat your phone and see if it helps. Next step is to reinstall firmware using NSU.

Good luck!

Yes *#7370#.

Don't know about recalibration, but in the meantime while waiting for answer, why not try fully draining your battery until the phone switches off, then recharge.

I have already tried it but still the same, charging lasts only 30 minutes not more not less.  I have reinstalled with NSU but nothing changed... :smileysad:

Did they change the body only or all including battery and charger? When I changed my first unit, carphone warehouse UK only changed the celfone body. They dont even want to change the box if I didn't insist that the IMEI number is on the box.

If its the same as mine, then the battery could be the culprit.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

AFAIK, recalibration means charging the batt when it's low on batt until it's full. This is the opposite of disconnecting the charger before charge is complete or charging before low batt.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

DO NOT DRAIN your batteries completely, this is anew generation of batteries and it actually is potentially harmful to them to drain empty. it also REDUCES the life of your battery. when the battery gives you the first signs of low batt indication this is a good time with modern batteries to charge. charge it until it says it is full. no need to charge any further than that. batteries come partially charged out of the box these days. plug one into the phone and use it until batt low, charge it to full again and repeat the first three to four times. after that battery is good to go and you no longer have to worry about it. you can charge it as you please, just keep one thing in mind, do not let it discharge completely.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

Not sure if this applies to the e71, but I've come across *#3370# for older (non-smartphones) that toggles the EFR or Enhanced Full Rate Codec. On will make your phone get better signal strength at the cost of battery drain, Off will lessen signal strength and add about 30% battery (charge) life. Haven't tried this on my e63.

Re: Problem with E71 battery

I've had the same problem with my battery and realised that you must not drain it completely. This can easily be done by e.g. leaving it with bluetooth enabled in the vicinity of another bluetooth device.

My question is - "How can you kick the battery back into life? It will not take a charge from the charger connected to the phone. Do I have to dump the battery?
