Hi,
I have two issues about the E72:
1. My E72 came with a 4GB microSD card with OVI Maps installed on it. Unfortunately there are only 1023 MB free out of 4GB, so I planned to buy a bigger card. I would like toi know if I can simply copy all the data from the opriginal 4GB card to the new one? Will the applications still work?
2. If I enable phone memory encryption in my phone, some applications stop working, i.e. OVI Maps does not work anymore, OVI Store stops working. I have to disable the phone memory encryption in order applications restart working. Is there a way to havbe phone memory enabled and still have the applications working fine?
Thanks.

Placing a new memory card will make changes in the registry so, you've to reinstall some apps.
OVI Maps needs to access the memory card for data purposes.

Hi.
In fact, you can do it. The main reason why memory has 1GB free, is because the Ovi Maps, seems to have all Ovi Maps (I mean, ALL). The CITIES directory has rought 2,6GB. Unless you're a big traveler, it's a waste of memory space. The memory doesn't have any app installed in it, only have the Ovi Maps' maps, Nokia PC Suite (now deprecated), and some WWF wallpapers and sounds. Feel free to copy it to a new memory.
But, if you installed another application, and it's a commercial app, probably doesn't work. as noted by some fellows here, the SD/SDHC has a unique ID, an dthe Symbian apps can ask an store it to verify the app wasn't pirated.

You can indeed remove all the maps and then install only the one you need, freeing up a lot of the 4 Gb.
Regarding encryption, I don't know what you mean since I have had it on for months (RAM+Card) and did not have erros on Ovi Maps or Store.
I did stop using encryption as there is a slight loss of speed and overall I concluded that it was not really safe since people could access my data without knowing the lock code. (a probable exploit scenario using Voyager Home screen). I mentioned that in another post (no one seemed to worry).
As far as I can tell, in that setup encryption is useless and ends up being annoying (because Nokia forced a maximum of 20 minute time-out for the lock in that case, meaning that it auto-locks sometimes when not handy.... while navigating in the car, listening to audiobooks, etc).

Thanks,
I have simply copied from the original SD to the new one and OVI Maps works as before.

Hi,
I have yet to solve the encryption problem. Let me explain better....
I have a new E72, the only things I have done are:
a) updated the phone software via OVI Suite
b) copied the contents from the original 4GB SD to a new 16GB one
Now everything works as with the original SD card.
Regarding encryption:
If I enable phone memory encryption ONLY (letting memory card encryption disabled) the phone takes about 1 minute to encrypt the memory.
Now, if I try to start OVI Maps I get the following error message: "Standby: Feature not supported"
If I click on OVI store I get: "SecureWidgetUI: Feature not supported"

I tested what you say, and I surprised because the behaviour happened to me! After enabling internal memory encryption, this apps will NOT work anymore:
I disabled the internal memory encryption, and the problems gone... ![]()

So there it seems that it is not possible to keep those apps working with phone encryption enabled. Anyone have a solution out there?

I have the same issue (#2), since I updated to v31. All the mentioned apps don't work, including YouTube app.
I have a new list.
As you can see almost all apps seems to access some area that is not accesible after encryption. I think could be the reason.
I hate that.

I have the same problem. After the last firmware update, all these applications would not work. The worst for me is that the phone memory encryption is automatically enabled with my company's mail program so I have no other choice but the encryption... I only hope that this will be soon fixed so that I can enjoy again ovi maps & the other applications...

Have exactly the same problem after updating OVI Maps to latest version. (3.04 10wk17b07)
(Also having latest firmware in phone 031.023, previous maps application worked w/o problems with this firmware. Well preivous firmware again caused E72 to crash e.g. every time sending MMS message with picture)
Also took a while to isolate the problem to encryption since phone did not give any kind of error, application just did not start (before figuring this out this did memory card formats and whatnot...)
Not really giving sign of quality or proper testing.

HI,
did the encryption worked well with the lastest update 031.023 ? I mean the other applications, not OVI Maps. I didn't notice this because I updated simultaneously the firmware and OVI Maps and since then notices that many other apps didn't work anymore.

Encryption is poorly implemented on the E72, it's a pity since one of the reasons I got this model was that the OS allowed RAM+Card encryption.
And yet, not only it isn't safe (you can access that on a fully encrypted phone without knowing the unlock code - see /t5/Eseries-Devices-and/Nokia-E72-Bypassing-RAM-Ca
This really is something the next firmware must address. Tighter security, more flexibility (longer auto-unlock timer, etc) and improved compatibility.

I've just upgraded my firmware and i'm getting the same problem.
This has seriously hampered the phone and made it useless with encryption enabled on the phone. The policy that my company uses the phone has to be encrypted at all times therefore the major features are useless ie maps and Ovi.
They need to sort this out ASAP.

Hi
I have the same troubles with the e72 and encryption to get the maps working.
My Company also requires encryption.
But Google maps works, but this is not an optimal solution

Hi,
I also have my office mailbox setup which encrypts the phone memory and doesn't allow to access most of the applications.
Did you find any solution for this problem?
Many thanks.

Going to reply to my own post saying that the annoying 20 minute limit for auto-lock when encryption is still enforced in the new firmware released this week (051).
If you are using encryption, it is not possible to have it set to higher values.
I'm re-encrypting my E72 (ram and card) to see how it performs now. Maybe it still crashes some apps when it auto-locks, making it useless for instance for trips while GPS navigating.
Will need to test to see if it is still possible to bypass the mem+card encryption code using JBakTaskman/Voyager Home as it was before... but I bet they didn't fix it.
Lame Nokia, lame... strong encryption still not useful.
