Hey.
I have just had a new Nokia E71 as an upgrade but am having problems connecting to my wirelss network in work.
It's an open network that doesn't require a password and other makes of phone and laptops can connect straight away.
When i try to connect it comes up with the message "Web: Page not found. Check web address".
I can connect at home no problem after i set up an access point with wep key etc it's just here in work there seems to be a problem.
As i said above, other makes of phone can connect using wifi as well as laptops with no problems at all. I also had the same problem trying to connect my N95 but never resolved it so i'm wondering if it's a Nokia issue??
Your help would be greatfuly appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards
Michael

I'm having the same problem?!
Are you from Uk, if so what is your network provider? I am with three.
I wonder if three has done something to it.
Have you tried updating the phone, I am going to try it later.

Hi,
I don't think it can be service provider related, your wireless carrier has nothing to do with your Wi-Fi settings.
Go to Menu > Connectivity > WLAN Wizard when at work. The phone will check for networks. Select your office network and click on Options > Details. Under Security make sure it says 'Open'. if it doesn't, it means there's a pre-shared key or other key required. Go back and then click on 'Edit Access Point'. Make sure that Network Status shows 'Public' and WLAN Network Mode is 'Infrastructure'. Then set WLAN Security Mode to 'Open'. Exit everything and now try. Probably (I'm guessing here) the default security mode is set to WPA/WEP and so the phone is expecting a key.
Let me know if this works for you. If it doesn't, check the above settings on another Nokia phone that IS able to connect to your office network and surf the web, and see if you can replicate those settings on your phone.
Good luck!

vansharma - thank you for the reply.
I've already done this, but I've checked what you've asked for, all the settings are correct...it did ask me for a wep key at the beginning and I input this in...heck I've re-input the wireless key incase I inputted it wrong, still the same problem.
It tries to connect...at the end all I get is a time out error:
Web: connection time out!

Hey.
The security status IS set to open in the details which is why i cant understand there being a problem.
No other Nokia's can connect but other makes of phone can.. i.e Samsung etc. I'll try and borrow one and see what their settings are.
The phone is on the Three network and i wonder if pre-loading it with their Three branded menus etc does something to the settings??

NO GATEWAY REPLY...I have exactly the same problem and also on the three network. Would be nice to know if this handset has the same problem on other networks.
I did speak to three network earlier today & apparently they are trying to resolve the problem with NOKIA.
Other problem -> click on the homepage button -> web & then again --= No gateway reply
Nightmare. My N95 & N73 worked much better.

Hi,
message "Web: Page not found. Check web address" sounds like a DNS problem - meaning that the url your are putting in (www.somewhere....) cannot be resolved - You can check this by entering this address http://129.42.58.216/ which is IBM's homepage (www.ibm.com) - if the page is shown the problem is your DNS.
If its not a DNS problem you should look into if its a DHCP problem - that network is not assigning you an IP address.

I think there are some problems on NOKIA's wifi feature(hardware or software).
A E63 my friend and a N85 from my cousin have wifi connection problem, both phone are hard to search a wifi router very nearby, even find, they are hard to connect, and easy to lose connect.

so i found how to fix this online, anyone having this problem follow these steps:
go to:
menu > tools> settings > connection > wireless lan > press options key > advanced options > accept and press yes > disable auto configuration > scroll to power saving > and disable.
this worked on the e63 and e71 , now i have fast interuption free browsing over wifi, also lets msn and other apps run smoothly through wifi

I have tried this and everything else thats been suggested so far, but the wifi initially connects to the first web page then just hangs and does not go any further, same thing happened on my wife's N95, but my Blackberry works just fine with WIFI at home, I believe there is a problem with Nokia phones and Netgear routers as my E71 worked just fine at my friend's Belkin router. It seems this is a Firmware problem, as I have changed all the settings on the phone and none of the combinations work, it is very fustrating, Please some one help or Nokia please investigate the problem with the Netgear router and come up with a solution. I know it is no just me as I have seen many comments on the discussion boards regarding wifi problems with E71 and NetGear routers. Please do let me loose faith in Nokia.

Hi,
Have You tried to set-up a fixed IP address on your phone - even though the router is supposed to give you one (DHCP)?

No I haven't, not sure how I would do that. The Only thing that has worked so far is if I turn off the security on the router, the wifi works perfectly, soon as I turn on the WPA-PSK, the troubles begin again. I am not about to leave the router open. Again I feel this is a Nokia Firmware problem that has been raised in a number of discussions and Nokia seems to be reluctant to acknowledge or fix it. Sorry if I sound upset, I am, specially because it seems to be a common problem, and it is not only with my Nokia E71.

As far as I have understood you ehaque your wifi works fine with all security off on router, but when turning WPS-PSK on you cannot connect any more, right?
There are 2 models of WPS-PSK (WPA and WPA2), which one are you trying to use? what is the model of your router? how hardware boxes are involved in you network from the cable commin into your house to the wireless accesspoint / router? finally what is your DHCP setup (who assigns your phone's ip-adresse)?
I had a simular problem in my network where the phone could not get an iP address from router (1) that were running the DHCP-server through the wireless router (2).. First I solved that by assigning an IP address manually on the phone and then later I changed the router setup so that the second wireless router were the one assigning the IP adress (DHCP).
If you would like to try with assigning a manual ip-adresse on your phone, go to tools, settings, connections, access points and select your wireless network. Press select and choose advanced settings. Select IPv4-settings and change the the phones IP adresse. Remember that your manually assigned IP-adresse has to be in the same IP range as when you run without any sequrity (the 3 first set of numbers has to be the same. Example 192.168.1.xx - where xx is the one you assign yourself ie 100).
Hope the above is understandable.... (the navigation to change the settings is translated from Danish)...

Sorry for confusing you.. What I was trying to say was that my problem was caused by have one ruter running DHCP and another one running the wireless lan - and maby there could be a similarity if your DHCP is not running on your wifi router. But this seems not to be the route of your problem.
In your next mail you are saying "that this phone comes with Wifi and it should work, so it is up to Nokia to make it work" - well I do agree that this is a half truth - but only a half truth as the problem might not be the phone but the router... now which company takes responsibility of finding a solution?
If it were my router I would look if there is a firmware opgrade - here is a link with descriptions to the newest firmware of your router : http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7734 (Firmware Updated Date: 04/27/2009 08:36 AM).
Its a quite new update, and It might fix the problem... any ways good luck with finding a solution.

thanks very much for the link, I actually though about this before and tried it, unfortunately when I try to upgrade the firmware this is the messege I get:
Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device.
Upgrade failed.
Please obtain the correct file and try again.
So annoying, as this is the correct firmware for the the router I own! Getting quite fed up now.
Thank you very much though for trying to help, much appreciated.

If the router is still under warranty...report it in!
