I recently purchased model E71 on-line. Can I use this phone to send receive calls in UK and Germany. What do I have to do when I am in these places? How about accessing my yahoo mail? How ?

Yes the only diff in the us version and overseas version is the 3g usa, vs 3g over seas

If I do not have a carrier, can I still access my yahoo mail ? and also make Skype calls?

When overseas, do i need to change it to a local SIM card, in order to send and receive local calls?

For me, i have att, i can use my sim with att over seas it just cost a lot more (unless you are a special plan) so when i go over seas, i take out my sim and buy a local sim and use it instead. It depends on where you go, if thats cheaper or not.
As long as you have wifi access you should be able to use both apps, trust me you dont want to do "data roaming" on att while overseas you will be screwed. So i dont use att data overseas i take out my sim when i arrive.
