I just got my E71 about 4 days ago. It was working fine until today. Sometimes, when i press the menu select button, or the home button, the menu does not show up. The screen just kinda blinks a little and thats it. I have to reboot it so that the menu and home buttons work again. Is there any software problem? I have only installed fring and google maps but i dont think they are causing the problem. What should I do ? Thank you in advance

If you think that the applications you
have installed are not the causes of the problem,
restore your phone to factory settings via *#7780#

I have exactly the same problem, already got a new unit but again the same problem appears.
Did you already find some solution?

I didn't install any software...

Someone else with the same problem?

Do you have plain nokia software or do you have operator variants?

i have the same problem also and i got my e71 replace to a new one.. but then again the menu won't pop up 2-3 times a day.. no added software installed.. just plain default softwares and settings.. tried *#7780#, but then again it happen.. hopefully when the new software update of e71 will fix this.

Try to close the automatic keypad lock.
My e71 is still ok after I did that.

Do a Restore Factory Settings and it will be fixed. I tried it and its fine ever since. Default code is 12345

I have exactly the same problem. Had to reboot. I thought it is a problem with the wallpaper I was using. Any idea when the next s/w update is being released?

Same here. The camera does not get invoked even after more than 15 seconds of pressing the Camera key. Can someone please help. Regards, Sajjid

i checked with Nokia Care, they said that this happens if you have set your Left Selection Key as "Menu". Since there's already a dedicated Menu button (the home sign on your phone), it clashes with the selection you have made. Once you change the Left selection key to point to any other shortcut, this problem should not persist.

This is the exact problem i am facing... It may sound crazy, but its true that i purchased 3 different nokia e71 and in all the three, the similar problem was arrising..Occasionaly the menu wont open and i would have to reboot my phone.... NOKIA AUTHORISED - PLEASE HELP..

I think it's shared problem between e71 and e51 and probably some other models.

To solve Menu button problem I've changed menu (top left) button on my E51 to some other command but Menu (Media player for instance). Since that I have not this problem.

Thank God for this site. I sort of panicked after getting my new E71 from a friend and was ready to take it back for a replacement but i was sure there had to be a simple explanation. A bit dissapointed however as in 2009 a phone should be able to cope with two buttons having the same shortcut without freezing.

Hey, I'm having exactly the same thoughts. But my problem is that when I go through my phone to change the shortcuts, I can't find the button.

Why is it that in 2009 they still create rubbish phones that can't handle what they're built for?

Example: C905, I had 3 of those poxy phones, it turns out it's the manufacturers fault for every one of those phones being faulty.

It's 2009!!!!! They should be able to create DECENT phones that WORK.

Could you possibly reply on how to change the shortcut if you know how.
