I have a Nokia E71 which had Firmware version 100.xx.xx and was running mail for exchange 2.7.Everything has been working fine. I recently updated my firmware to the latest 300.21.01218-0 and the Latest Mail for Exchange 2.9. After installing MfE 2.9 I now receive "unable to connect. retrying" error messages and I cannot keep the Sync mode to 'Always On'. After reading many forums about this I have found that reverting back to MfE 2.7 will fi this error. My issue is that I cannot find 2.7 for the E71 anywhere. The most ridiculous part is that I rang Nokia and they told me that they have no way of getting it either. To me that is absolutely crazy and will definitely change my mind about buying Nokia in the future, should have got an IPhone. Does anybody know if MfE 2.7 will work with the latest firmware and if so can someone point me in the right direction to download it. I am very annoyed with Nokia at the moment and don't think I'll ever get another one after my experiences with the E71.
Any help would be much appreciated.

MarkV,
Making such a rash decision just because of 1 application is quite brash. You MUST know - using smartphones or computers that software is constantly updated to fix bugs and issues reported by thousands of users - not just 1. Nokia did NOT force you to update to the latest firmware or update to the latest Mail for Exchange.
Curious:
1. did you do a full backup of your phone before the firmware upgrade?
- if not would you do this to your home PC/Mac before upgrading the OS? (if so then this is your fault of your own issue here).
2. How did you acquire MfE 2.7?
- did you download it to your PC/Mac or directly to the phone memory hence the loss of the software?
3. Why did you upgrade the OS?
- I'm aware it fixes a lot of issues, however which issues where you experiencing that the new firmware 300.x resolve? As you stated "Everything has been working fine" before upgrading to the new firmware.
That said I'm not a total **bleep** on the finger and will try to help.
I'll use Files on Ovi to share it to you.
As a habit I keep software when upgrading - JSUT IN case the new one doesn't work or causes more issues then preferred.

Hi Jagga
Yes I am aware that software is constantly updated to fix issues for everybody and not just 1 person. In saying that it is also VERY common for new release software to be more unstable than previous releases and most companies will at least make a previous release available for download. Mail for Exchange came preinstalled on the phone - I didn't download it, it didn't come on a CD and the installation package was removed from the phone once the install was done. I found it very necessary to update to the latest firmware as the phone was having some vey strange issues as far as crashing etc etc. In the past I have not received any technical support until all firmware is the latest version.
In answer to your other questions.
1. Yes I did do a full backup of the phone before the upgrade. I always do this!!!!
2. Came preinstalled on phone.
3. Everything in regards to Mail for Exchange was working fine before the upgrade. The phone would regularly crash or freeze. Sometimes requiring battery removal to restart it. We have many E71's in this company and they all do the same. I was the TEST subject for the latest firmware.
In general I keep all my software also, but I don't always download software that comes preinstalled on a piece of hardware. Most companies will make that software available for download - and even if they don't you can at least contact them to get a copy of it. This is apparently impossible at Nokia!!!!!!
If you could make it available to download on OVI that would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your reply
Mark

Ah. Now I understand.
Sorry that I came off a lil' harsh there.
I wasn't sure you worked for a company in Tech. I must've come across as condescending, my apologies.
ok I'm ready to setup the files. But Files on Ovi requests an email address to share them.
ok do you have an email address you can PM me? You'll be using your phone or computer to reach my pc for the needed files.
Cheers.

Hi,
Also getting the same error. Very annoying. Appreciate getting the previous version if available. Also found that the Heartbeat value is missing when selecting 'always online'. Assume this is related to the issue.
Seems to successfully sync only every 15 mins on the dot - every though 'always online' selected.
Regards,
cp.

Hi,
I've been following this thread for a while as I'm suffering the same issue. I've called Nokia four times without any useful response.
We have a typical Exchange server behind a Sonicwall Firewall.
Would you be able to send me the older, working version of MfE when it's convenient?
Thanks in advance

My E-71 is running 200.21.118 & has the most recent version of mfe & I am facing the same problem. WOuld appreciate if you could send the version of mfe that works. Is there a work around that results in part of the functionality i.e. just mail syncing & not calendar?
thanks

Just PM me and I will email it to you. I never found any other work around except to put version 2.7 on.

Mark,
thanks very much,
I installed the version of mfe you provided but it still doesnt work for me. The log shows "System Error, Try again later" while the mfe error is the same "Unable to connect. Retrying" however its working for other people using mfe on E71.
This version of mfe is 2.07.00, another phone having 2.07.022 seems to work fine, does anyone have this version of mfe?
thanks.
