My ynokia E7 no longer notifies me with the '1 message received' or '1 missed call' message whenever i receive a message or miss a call. the only way i know is the blinking notification light. for messages received, the message alert tone does not ring.

what could be the problem?

this is typical of too many sms in your phone,do you have many?
if so either delete them or back them up.also check your sub folders in messaging and apply the same.

i have tried to delete a number of messages but no change. in fact i have realsied that it at times starts functioning normally, but the moment you switch it off, it then starts giving the old problem when switched on.

My E7-00 had the same problem: No alert tone for incoming messages.

The first time happened a few months ago. After a soft reset thethe alert tone worked again.

The next time happened two weeks ago. I did not want to do a soft reset again and looked for other solutions without luck.

A few days later I switched off the phone for the night (usually it is just set to silent mode). After starting the phone again I was greeted with an alert tone for missed messages! Wonderful! Unfortunately now the calender did not work anymore. A "power reset" (?) --> 10 seconds pressing the off button fixed that.The key seemed to switch it of for **several** hours.

Whatever the problem is, it seems not to be caused by having too many messages on the phone. Right now there are 943 received messages and 721 sent messages on my phone. Message alert still works.

Maybe this is helpful: Message notification tone stopped working again on my E7-00. Switching off the mobile for 2 hours did not help but switching off for a whole night did. Tone works now again.
