i have a new Nokia E7-00. I experience the calendar function to be VERY slow. It takes seconds to open, then more seconds to load the calender entries, then to move from one date to the other, even closing the function is slow. What can I do to make it respond faster?

That is wierd. On mine it's pretty much instant whatever I do with it.

Are you running tons of apps in the background?
Try a reboot first to see if it get's any better.

No, I am not running applications in the background. Actually, I close applications after I've used them. 

I do not know if the following could have a bearing on my problem: In FILE MANAGER it shows that the phone has 356.3 MB free in the phone memory and 13.3 GB in the mass memory. When I look at the same information on my computer when the phone is conneted to it, then it says that there is no free space left in the phone memory. Could something inside the software relating to the "full" phone memory perhaps slow the phone down?

No, that's a known bug. Mine does that too on my W7 laptop. Have u installed the pr1.1 update?

My phone came out with release PR1.1, software version 014.002 (date 2011-03-01), custom version 014.002.293.02 (date 2011-03-25).

Yes, that's the latest one. Does it only act slow using the calendar function or does it do this generally or with other specific functions?

If you got it very recently and it has been like that since day one I'm tempted to suggest you go back and get it replaced. It might be a thing you can solve with a system restore, but if it's a DOA product, I wouldn't bother.

But have you installed any 3rd party apps on your device? Do you use any anti virus on your phone? It could be some app causing this.

What you could try to is the 8 second press just to have tried that. Turn the phone off. Press and hold the powerbutton down untill you feel 3 short buzzes, then release the power button and turn it on normally.

Thank you for all the input thus far.

I tried the 8 second switch-off test. It made a slight difference. It now takes around 10 seconds to switch from one day to the next, when selected. Previously it took just under 20 seconds!

What I realised last night, is that the phone has a multi-calendar function and that, for some reasons, I have two profiles in Calendar. Calendar entries are randomly stored in the two profiles. I'm planning to re-enter all entries into one profile after which i will delete the other profile. Maybe that will help?

If not, then I will take the phone to my service provider.

I also have a new E7 which I purchased to replace a broken E90.  The E7 is extreemely slow using the calendar, so slow in fact that it makes it useless as a business phone for me.  I would consider the E7 to be "NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE".  I am very disappointed and feel I have wasted £300+ when I could/should have purchased an iPhone 4.  Additionally I have 4 email accounts which download my emails into the phone then it deletes them before I can read them!!! It is useless as anything other than a phone and I didn't need to pay this much for a phone.  Very unhappy!!!!

Same problem here. The calendar is useless for business. It takes up to a minute to change view (week, day etc). After shutting down the calendar I can't use the E7 anymore for at least 30 seconds.
It became even worse after updating to Belle. Havn't found a solution yet on internet, nor an answer from Nokia support.

What I tried so far to solve the problem.

1 Deleting all calendar entrys solves the problem. I can switch between the calendar functions quickly, but reloading the entries slows it down again.

2 Limiting the range of entries: 2 weeks in the past to 3 months in the future: Still very slow.

3 Closing down all background apps, No difference at all.

4 Deleting the homescreens : No difference

5 Back to factorysettings helps untill I put the calendar entrys in again. Then it's slow again even without any 3rd party apps installed yet.

Switching from "day view" to "Weekview" for example takes at least 30 seconds. Swiping from today to tomorrow takes 10-15 seconds. Sometimes the calendar freezes ans switches off during waiting time. When I close the calendar it takes about up to a 20 seconds before I can do anything with the phone.

Installing Business Calendar, a paid app, doesn't help either, because it uses the default calendar in some way.

My last to devices were a E90 and a N900, without any calendar problems at all. I always choosed for Nokia phones so far because I don't want to get involved in the iPhone hype, but this is really a disapointment.

The E70 intends to be a businessphone, but it's calendar is useless.

Even more disapointing is the fact that Nokia doesn''t react at all. Hopfefully somebody will find some solution.

I was the one who started this threat...and I've managed to solve my problem.

The insight that I got as a non-technical person in my problem, is that it had to do with the way that entries had been stored in the different calendar profiles that the E7 offers (ie when you enter a new calender entry, you have to select right at the top into which calender profile (personal, etc) you want to save this entry.)

In my case I did a phone switch from my previous Nokia N97 to the new E7 when I set the E7 up. From then on the E7 calender function was very slow.

When I checked the calender set-up on the E7, I found that lots of calender entries that came across from the N97, had been duplicated on the E7 and that these entries had been posted to different profiles (see above) in the E7's calendar. My impression was that calendar was too big because of this, or that that large number of entries in DIFFERENT PROFILES, could slow the function down. 

I then cleared the E7's calendar completely and manually (!) entered my calender entries on the new E7 MAKING SURE THAT ALL ENTRIES WERE PUT INTO ONLY ONE PROFILE WHICH IS NOT THE PERSONAL PROFILE as the personal profile can hide entries from view.

Please pardon my clumsy way of explaining. Hope the information is of value to you.

@ Johan. It was not a clumsy explain, good enough for a Dutchman anyway. Your post gave me hope. But I only have one profile.(personal) So no different profiles can mix up in some way. I clered all entrys again and added a new profile. (Business) and downloaded my entries again.

As far as I know there is no possibility to choose in which profile the sync takes place. So it synced in my personal profile again. The new added Business profile remained empty. And still the E70 is slow. I cant delete the custom personal profile and try another.

My phone syncs with my office using Lotus Notes traveler. Mail works fine also synchronised with my office. I'm absolutely sure that it has nothing to do with Lotus Notes traveler, since i had no problems at all with my previous nokias. There are many brands of phones in our company and nobody has problems with their calendar. There must be some issue with the E7. I contacted Nokia but except a confirmationmail no response yet. Thank you for your tip, bur unfortunately it did not work for me because only one profile is in use.

I found out something very interesting, bur I still don't understand it.

As i've told my E70 syncs with my office using Lotus Notes Traveler. After the initial sync my E70 calendar  became very, very slow, and is almost useless. I tried as far as i know everything. (see postings above) but nothing helped.Then  I tried something new: I synchronised my calendar (as usual) with nokia suite on my PC at home. Then I erased all entrys on my E70. (about 150 calendar entrys). After that I did NOT sync with my office using Lotus Notes Traveler, but I reloaded my E70 by syncing it with my PC at home. (MS Outlook calendar) The about 150 entrys were back again on my E70. After that my E70 calender runned very smooth. Now  I can switch between functions on the calender very quick.

The question is: What is the difference between the calendar data downloaded from my office (which slows down my E70 extremely) and downlading the same data from Nokia Suite (which originally came from my office and were synchronised on my home-pc?)

Now my Nokia is running fine but I cant backup it on my home-pc dayly with Nokia Suite, then erase my phone and synchronise again to get my data back, to keep it running.

I did an extra test. I've put some test entrys in my calendar on the E70 and synchronised it with my office. I also made som test entrys in my remote office calendar and synchtonised it. The data transferred from the phone to the office and back as it should, and still the E70 runs smooth. But these were only a few test entries.  I'm not a technician, but hopefully somebody understands what I try to discribe and knows the answer.

Nokia E7-00 system - Nokia Belle, Lotus Notes 7, Lotus Notes Traveller 8.5.3

I ‘am having the same problem. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to Nokia Belle. I think the problem is in Lotus Notes Traveller. Under Symbian Anna Traveller worked fine regardless on the amount of calendar entries.

But I have found temporary solution. Synchronization of emails work OK with Traveller, Notes Calendar can be synchronized with Nokia PC Suite 7.1.

@raymond One thing that could be different is the time zone. Our server is in Finland and I am in Holland. I can't really put my finger on this but there is a difference I think.

I had the same issues with the Belle upgrade. As soon as I installed traveller and synced my calendar everything went down hill to "start up failed contact retailer".

I have done a similar thing as you have done (I am still in the middle of testing). I first synced my calendar with good old PCsuite and I noticed that there was 1 error. There was an appointment with a start date at 30-03 and end date at 23-03 (negative). I deleted this and I am now in the middle of starting Traveller again. Let's hope this was the issue for me. I am not sure what happened with this appointment because on my old E71 the appointment was also not ok (12:00 am till 1:00am that same day??). But this did not give real issues. I suspect the time zone issue overhere. Perhaps something with . or , mixed up in date within Notes? I have had things like this before that it causes appointments going back in time.

I will let you know if my problem was cleared or not lateron. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction (hopefully).

No the problem is still there. After syncing the calender via Notes Traveller the calendar is becoming very slow until I get the message "startup failed..." again.

Restoring backup now and I will only use Traveller for syncing my mail. Calendar I will do via Pcsuite, I hope this works then.

It seems that the problem has something to do with multiple calendars. Traveller uses the "personal" agenda and PCsuite uses "Pcsuite".

I hope Nokia will find an answer for us.

@ lubbers. As i've told I duplicated all entrys to my Outlook calendar with Nokia Suite and then deleted all entries on my e7. They originally  came from LN traveler. Afther doing that I synced with Nokia Suite, so all items are back in my E7 again, and its running quick. Since then my E7 is syncing every hour with traveler. New entries are added and old are removed. (six weeks in the past en 6 month in future)  So, amongst ALL entries there are items that came from Nokia Suite and also from LN  Traveler. I estimate that now about 10% of all entries came from LN traveler and still my Nokia is running fine. I don't know what happens when within af few months all entry's are from LN traveler. I found that Symbian Belle has some issues with older versions of LN traveler. LN Traveler Version 8.5.3.1. should be more compatible with E7 running Belle. Our company promissed to upgrade but I don't know when exactly. When it's done I'm gonna remove all entries from my phone again , and  replace them by using LN Traveler and hopefully it will work better.

I'll report here as soon Traveler is updated.

@Lubbers. About the different calendars; I have never noticed that Pc Suite uses the profile PC suite. Maybe it happens but i don't know. On my E7 there is only one calendar and that is Personal. I ve synced an empry calendar on my E7 from pc suite suite to my E7 and all entries are in my only existing profile "personal ".So, as far as I know there are no problems with multiple calendars.
