Nokia E63 To many problems.

Okay so I just got this phone for christmas and have a few problems.

#1: I copied my contacts on Sim to my phone. I went through and deleted the ones I do not use, or will ever again. There are no duplicates in the memory unless you count that the Sim and Phone have some numbers the same? Anyway when recieving a text msg it does not show the name of some people. It shows one or two people but other than that I just see their number. I deleted their number in the memory and resaved it both manually and through the text (deleting any duplicates). There is no way for me to get the name to show. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

#2: I cannot connect my phone to the computer at all. I got the phone with a charger and phone...that is it. So thankfully as I am a Nokia user I scrounged the USB cord from my old XpressMusic phone. It fits! Yay until I see that even when plugged in it does not work ... well It did and since I updated my Ovi and Nokia PC suite it does not work. I only transported some images over to the phone by useing "Explore" on the device.

It would be great if I could get some help with this.

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

Unless you delete the contacts on the SIM card, you will have duplicate contacts and those will only show the number on an incoming call.

I also use the 5800 USB cord for my wife's E63 and it works fine. I have backed up the phone and updated the firmware twice with it. I use Nokia PC Suite. Ovi Suite seems to have some bugs. Perhaps you should unstall all on your PC and then just install Nokia PC Suite. When you connect your phone it prompts you to choose PC Suite, USB Mass Storage, etc. If you are going to use Explorer to copy files, choose USB Mass Storage. If using PC Suite choose that one.

If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture. :smileyhappy:

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

You have to be kidding me I cannot set the phone to just view SIM contacts instead of phone contacts so the whole concept of a SIM is to save contacts is void because the phone cannot switch between the lists. Oh and just to point out I deleted all my contacts on the phone so it should work but it didn't. Then I deleted all SIM contacts but saved them to my phone. That didn't work. So then I just deleted them all and instead saved each indivually. Still no sucess.

About the USB cords, I do know how to set it up to view it as a mass storage device and how to set it to work for the PC suite but doesn't matter what option it does not work. Now instead I tried my old phone and since the damn update it won't work either. Any way I can get the old version back? The new version of both OVI and Nokia PC suite just do not like my phones anymore.

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

No, I am not kidding you at all. The phone has the ability to store numbers on both the phone memory and the SIM and you can set it to defaut read to either or both. If the the same number apears on both (even if you choose the default view to one) the phone will see that as a duplicate and only show the number of the caller. What version firmware are you running now? (Yes, I know updating is another issue for you.) You can try a reset to factory settings. *#7780# is a soft reset and should preserve your personal settings and data. *#7370# is a hard reset and will wipe out anything you may have added. If you are prompted for a password, the default is 12345 if you have not changed it.

I do not know how you can get a prior Nokia PC or Ovi Suite. From looking at the software download page I do note that most phones do not support both. The E63 only has the option to download Nokia PC Suite. I do not know what your other phone is. You may wish to uninstall everything on your PC and then run the suite cleaner tool before reinstalling Nokia PC Suite. You can find that here:  http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/nokia-pc-suites/how-to/nokia-pc-suite-clea...

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

I just rang up Nokia support...Been on the phone an hour and in the end the woman started shouting at me and saying it was all my fault. When I asked for her name she put the phone down on me.

Great support.

Now I never changed a setting, I only had the thing a couple days but we did a factory reset anyway. So now I deleted every contact on both SIM and phone. I then went to the text msg's and created new contacts from the numbers sent in the msgs. Still does not work.

I am at my wits end. I feel abused by the woman in customer care.

I can't really offer anything else other than take the phone back. You may have gotten a lemon..... it happens. Too bad customer support people don't realize this some times.

Her boyfriend just told her that he dumped her.

For the contact issues I suggest you install "Conversation" from Nokia Beta Labs. Keep in mind that there are 3 phonebooks: SIM; Phone and OVI contacts.

I think that for the second problem OVI messed up the drivers. Uninstall all Nokia related software and drivers. Use a program like Ccleaner to clean out the registry. Reinstall the latest version of PCSuite (not OVI) as admin and when you're asked, connect the phone in PCSuite mode. Don't use USB hubs.

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

Did you try connecting with Bluetooth? Is the USB cable compatible or broken? Did you download the latest version of PCSuite? Using Windows 7 can be a problem. What firmware is your E63? Type in the homescreen*#0000#. Lot of questions, I know. Don't give up now.:smileywink:

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

Btw I did mean to say thank you both for helping me. Was just frustrating that she started shouting at me and saying it was my fault when it was on loudspeaker and the other people in the said all she did was talk in circles :smileysad:

Okay so bluetooth connect will not work even thought it has worked for other phones but yeah it doesn't like it.

Luckily as we are a Nokia family there are two other cables I can use and they both say the same thing.

I don't use windows 7 just yet lol but I have two laptops with Vista Home premium.

All the info that is give is:

200.21.012

18-06-2009 (guessing the date)

RM-437

Nokia E63-1 (233.02)

Does it need an update as you have:

E63-1(260.02)

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

I actually have V4 now, but I am in North America and do not know if it was released in your area. Can you take it to a Mokia Care Center for an update?

Importing SIM contacts into E63.

I spent 4 hours trying to import my existing SIM contacts into my new E63 - utterly frustrating and it has really spoilt my experience of my new phone.

The problem(s)

Firstly, for a expensive phone I can not believe there isn't USB cable included in the box. Nokia might Connect People but they certainly don't connect devices.

I don't have bluetooth on my computer so that could not be used to transfer SIM contacts either.

The OVI (website) did let me synchronise my phone with OVI (via WiFi/web), but becasue I could not use Bluetooth or USB I was prevented from opening either of the downloaded OVI or Nokia PC suite programs fully.

The outcome: I'm left with a  hi-tech phone where I can download all manner of games, ringtones, themes and other junk but the most basic operation of reading SIM contacts appeared impossible.

One partial solution (does not need any Nokia software :-)

I have all my contacts as individual VCF files on my computer.

Zip them up to a single zip file, email them to yourself.

Read email on your E63 and save the zip file into Documents folder - Mark and extract all items (to Documents)

Using Menu>Office>File manager>Documents (folder), select each .VCF file and Options: Save business card.

It is laborious doing this to each contact but it saves typing in numbers over-and-over and only takes a few minutes.

Now I can see all of my old SIM contacts in my E63 Contacts :-) - but unfortunately it still doesn't show the names in text messages :-(

Good luck (and happy new year)

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

This problem seems to be with the contact list and text msg programs in this phone. Will Nokia please do something about this as it is not lawful to sell a phone which does not infact work. I am having to now use my old nokia phone. I have never encounted a Nokia phone which I cannot literally pick up and use straight away.

Re: Nokia E63 To many problems.

PS. even simpler way:

Forget the zip file, just send yourself an email with all VCF contacts as attachments, read the mail on your E63 and clicking each VCF attachment in turn will give you the option of saving to contacts. Any NEW text message received does appear in your inbox with the sender's name. No 90MB download or other Nokia software to install, no USB drivers or Bluetooth to fiddle with. Sorted :-)

Ah I will try doing that from my old phone. Hopefully it will work but it is a pain getting people to msg me.

Oh I noticed that after deleting all contacts from SIM and phone that the texts recieved which do have names on still remain the same.

I don't understand what you accepted as solution. Your phone needs some serious fixing. I would bring it in for service. There are to many issues.
