Another issue which I do not know if it was mentioned before: if a profile is selected other than General (like Meeting), the DATE is not shown anymore on the screen. Instead of date, the phone shows the name of the profile (e.g. Meeting). Like the screen is not big enough...

This thing is common in series 60 multimedia devices like Nseries phones. Once I select other profiles the date is not shown.
Hence, I strongly disagree that this thing will also be there on the E90/Communicator .
It has enough big screen, so why this attitude?

So, if the screen is big enough, why not find a solution to display both date and profile ? The cell info display is also shown only breafly and then dissapearing. The outer screen might be as big as other E and N series phones, but the inner screen is enormeous. Why not use it to the full and display all these info ?

This kind of screen usage is there since 6 years ago when first S60 appear. Since then, Nokia has not changed it, not even for its flagship phone.

Point exactly :smileywink: But positive thing, sw will be quite stable when most of the features are dropped.

Again, then if you want features, you'll need 3rd party sw. Lot of that. And again, sw is not stable. Only difference, you need to pay to get unstable device :smileyhappy:

S60 sucks so much, that i like it. Same feeling, then would use windows 3.11 (or something old anyway, don't remember actual win versions from years ago..)

Commercial for E90 should be "Retro sw communicator" (old sw in new hw). Then it would be Ok, if not even great for people looking retro fealing :smileyhappy:

Still looking for alternative. iPhone is not ready, proplems like:
- No 3G
- Battery is not user replaceable

HTC & UIQ probably best alternatives at the moment. UIQ is stable symbian. HTC stability i wonder still.

UIQ seems to be Master of multitasking:

Re: My E90 review

It's been about 2 months since I am intensively using my E90, so I put together the top ten of missing features, in the order of their importance for me:

1. Messaging cannot open several messages in the same time
2. Missing keyboard shortcuts (most of them)
3. Strange multitasking (opening a document from File Manager will block File Manager until the document is closed)
4. Only basic computer
5. E-mail does not display "To:", "Date:" and sender E-mail address (they can be found only in "Message details"
6. Missing fax
7. Browser cannot "Open a link in a new window"
8. Calendar does not show the "Number of years" for aniversaries
9. Stiff keyboard
10. Phone does not show the phone number of the caller, nor the phone number of the person I'm calling (it shows only the name)

And the top of the things I like:
1. Incredible processor speed compared to previous communicators
2. HSDPA (3.5G)
3. 800 pixels screen which shows web pages almost perfect
4. Lit keyboard
5. Vibration alert

The new FW upgrade is coming very soon (hopefully), so I will update my list of E90 issues / missing features after I test the new version.

PS: I am just hoping that maybe Nokia will give the option to EITHER up-grade to a better version of S60, or install the S80 !

1. Good point.
2. Wait and see what comes back. Several articles showed that some shortcuts are missing while some of the main ones are still there.
3. Yeah, sort of weird the way that works.
4. Not sure what you mean with this. It's not meant to be HAL9000.
5. This is a must.
6. Dead and gone, not coming back. See jafores and Cortado.
7. Not true.
8. True.
9. Hardware issue. No software in the world can fix this, so why put this in software fixable things?
10. I think this has to do with name to number mapping but there should be an option to show details.

Wow!!! Great. Can you share how you select link to open in new window? Or do you refer to functionality if it is coded to link itself?

With 9500, this was when shift holded when link opened. You did get pop up menu with choices like save & open to new window.

Re: My E90 review

In addition to VMOISA's pointed all shortcomings, there is another point to make. When a caller's assistant calls it should show the callers assistant's name for the sake of identification otherwise there is no point keeping contact numbers under different headings in the contact menu.

Sorry, I did not get it: what is a "caller's assistant" ?

Re: My E90 review

I fully Agree with Sahoo;

Callers Assistant is an option while adding a detail in Contacts. It also gives option for saving a number for Assistant.

If the Field Name along with Callers name is shown during a call all these issues will be resolved.

VMOISA:
Under each cantact entry, there are various fields like home number, office number, home address, office address, etc. There is also a field called Assistant's name as well as number. Suppose Mr.X's assistant gives you a call one must identify him that it is not the main contact but his assistant is calling.

Re: My E90 review

One better feature also related to contact fields is nickname :smileyhappy: Why you might ask?

If you activate 'say callers name', you can owerwrite 'first name' & 'last name' with 'nickname'.

That is just great :smileywink: You can get voice notes to ringing tone.

Ok, I get it. I did not know about this option.

Re: e90...nokia let me down

Another "feature" of E90 which I just could not get over even after 2 months of usage (and which did not make it to top 10) is the auto-caps on the inner screen. Sometimes I have to retype the same letter 3 times before getting right. This is most annoying when selecting a text which is right after the end of a phrase, and trying to replace it with text right away. Or when typing in an application in full screen (e.g. Web browser) and the caps symbol cannot be seen.

This feature is doing more harm than good on the inner screen.

Yes, wonder of usability. But what to do. Exactly same features used in cover and in inner side = both can't be good :smileysad: In keypad, it's ok but in qwerty same feature sucks to be honest

Re: e90...nokia let me down

Another annoying (for me) issue on E90:

I normally lock the phone with security code. When I OPEN the phone and enter the unlock code, the outside keyboard is unlocked as well. So when I finish my work on the QWERTY keyboard and close the phone, I have to lock the outside keyboard manually.

On 9300i, with its sepparated phone and PDA parts, the outside keyboard remains locked untill I unlock it manually, so I do not have to worry about locking it manually every time I finish work on the inside.

Again sad but true. But that's because E90 is not designed mobile PDA combination. It is mobile with large and smaller UI. And content is the same, only size of the display and keys changed.
