Re: Might have fake E72

Unfortunately it appears to be a fake, because model RM-233 is reported as an 8800, and product code 0560654 is reported as an E71.

Even I have an hunch that it could be a fake or an E72 with E71's firmware on it?, because the product code entered shows V50 which the E72 didn't get, an update was released yesterday where it jumped from v31 to v51.

If it shows PC suite, Mass storage, Image transfer, Media transfer then its a NOT a fake.

If you see COM port, webcam then its a fake.

Re: Might have fake E72

hi everyone,

just not to open another topic, I am in the same situation as Manka and I wanted to know if my E72 is an original phone or a fake.

Specifications:

Type: RM-530

Model: E72-1

Code: 0586208

When I type *#7780# appears “Restore all original phone settings? Phone will restart”

When I type *#mac0wlan# (*#62209526#) it shows my MAC address …

Any other ideas, should I stay calm ?

thanks a lot

Sounds like you have a real one, but connect your phone to pc and see what appears on the screen. What should appear is pc suite, mass storage etc.

What should NOT appear is: Web cam, COM port . If those two last ones appears either on the device or the computer, it's a fake.

These tips was mentioned by Krizanand above!

If you can connect it and sync it with pc suite or Ovi suite, it should be an original one.

So if it connects with pc suite and or Ovi suite and responds like you mentioned above (to the codes) it sounds like it's an original Nokia.

You can also diall *#0000# which should give you phone information like fw version etc.

Hi there!

My E72 details are as follows:

Type: RM-233

Code: 0566494

FCC ID: PPIRM-233

IC: 66IAD-RM233

Since you said RM-233 is reported as 8800, does this means my E72 is fake? When I tried to connect via PC Suite, my laptop gave an error message "Cannot authenticate the phone". Please help.

Re: Might have fake E72

Sounds like yours could be fake. What does happen when you diall these codes on your phone - what info do you get?:
1: *#0000#
2: *#7780#
3: *#06# (IMEI)
Click this link and type your IMEI number which you hopefully got by diall *#06# http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr
It's not 100% bullet proof, but I have never experienced this site to fail.

Anyway, most likely your phone is a knock off by what you tell.

Product code, 0560654, indicates this is actually a Nokia E71.

So does RM-346 suggest...
