Barring calls is easy.
Add the persons/numbers to your black list in the Advanced Call Manager, they will be greeted by a busy tone, a verbal message from you or they will get an SMS from you, depending on your choice.
To bar SMS's you would need a third party application though I cannot tell you which since I don't use one. I remember, however, seeing some applications mith names like Spam Stopper etc.

Advanced Call Manager? I've not found any such feature on my handset - could this be a network option?

No, Advanced Call Manager is an application by Nokia which normally comes preinstalled on the E71. Try support.nokia.com where you can find and install it.
It does exactly what you want. Bar calls from selected individuals.

Thanks very much for that info, really helped ![]()
Now I have another more serious problem - this phone which has been absolutely brilliant until now is proving troublesome... I never usually 'succumb' to the pop ups that occur daily regarding the latest updates to pc suite or my nokia phone, but I did recently and low and behold my handset was emptied of all texts, emails, personal data and private information, etc....
I have tried, in vain, to contact Nokia - can anyone offer help on this?
Again, thank you

Did you install a new firmware I assume? If that is what you did then unfortunately everything is lost unless you happen to have made a backup recently. To be fair to Nokia though the Nokia Software Updater does warn people to backup everything before applying the firmware because you will loose all data.
The E71 does NOT have UDP (User Data Protection) so whenever you reinstall the firmware, do a master reset, hard reset the phone will get wiped of ALL user data.
Sorry.

Hi, and thank you for your reply - I guess that's what I must have done... It was very late at night and it caught me off guard, I never usually go for those things because they're trouble. You would think though that nokia would be able to help?!!? Or at least STOP the 'firmwares' going out if they cause so much hassle.
I'm now going to think again before buying another nokia - i used to be a huge fan, but that really has annoyed me, especially as they have not even had the courtesy to reply to any emails of calls.
Shame because the phone is great - but I've lost my entire 'business' world (I was between pc back-ups - but email set-ups, etc were erased anyway...)
Thank you for your reply
