Help with e-mail notification

Help for novice - how can I get my E71 to play a notification sound when I receive an e-mail from my googlemail acount? I have to be connected to the web and logged into my e-mail account with my e71 - then what?

Any guidance and advice would be much appreciated.

Thank Olly

If you've set up your googlemail account ok, you need to change you profile settings..

Goto; Menu | Profiles | Select General | Personalise... and scroll down to E-mail alert tone...press centre button and then select the tone you want...

presto...

Re: Help with e-mail notification

Hi there...

If you want the device to download e-mails automatically and then notify you of them enter Menu>communication>messages>options>settings>e-mail>mailboxes>select mailbox google>automatic retrieval

Here you can set the frequency as well as times/days etc of auto mail download. Once this is done your device will play a tune and display "new e-mail" when it connects up and finds new e-mail. You can configure a tune as detailed above...

Re: Help with e-mail notification

Gr8 advice and entirely accurate, thank you very much. Hopefully only one final question - I had a message come up when making the changes you have listed and it said that I may be charged for using this facility! I have web & walk included in my package, do I need to contact T-Mobile about this for clarification. I have set to only retrieve when using own net work (I assume that is what the abreviation ment)?

Again your reply would be appreciated.

Now also get a message saying "unable to update googlemail. Check mailbox connection settings".

What do I do to solve this problem?

Re: Help with e-mail notification

Check your email settings that you have, I have found that it's generally because of the user name including "@gmail.com" get rid of that and it should be ok, Check your connection setings as well to make sure it's using the correct apn

Re: Help with e-mail notification

Sorry for the lack of knowledge again but what is an APN?  I really am a novice and just want to use the phone for what appears to be fairly simple tasks. I can connect to the internet and check but having a tone a bit like the text message notification would be very helpful?

Re: Help with e-mail notification

Long convoluted way of getting there but I finally have it-

Spoke with my service provider and they have talked me through the set up and now all works fine - even get e-mail notification etc.

Very glad for all your assistance etc and although it probably is fairly simple to work all this out, for the basic everyday user things will have to be easier otherwise all the simpletons like me wont have the patients or time to sort this out and go elsewhere. Such a shame for a great phone too.
