And again, HTC is coming with new solutions:
http://www.america.htc.com/products/shift/default.html

"power of Windows Vista with hyper-fast 3G connectivity"

Yes, maybe symbian goes small mobiles and windows will take PDA + mobile combinations (no more communicators :smileysad: )

If it's in forum, it's a clear fact :smileywink: Who would write E92 coming if not..

Though. If public name of the product is already known, it should arrive quite soon. And then it will be quite clear copy from E90 as features, HW probably from cheaper materials and sligh change in applications.

Re: e90...nokia let me down

It's difficult to believe Nokia will start a E92 as the E90 is not yet delivered or worldwide available !

But, indeed, if they really decided to do so, this means E90 is really a bad product and they have to create a new one to replace it !

In that case, what about us ??? :smileysad:

Symbian S60 is the future, I think S80 is gone forever!

S60 might be the future for phones, but it seems to me it is not the future for Communicators. The more I use my E90 the more I realize that S60 was designed for phones, not for small computers (like a communicator) There are lots of small usage issues which appear every day. The list we put together about missing features in E90 could not hold all of them, they are just too many.

Previous S80 communicators were really designed (software-wise) like a computer. You got a phone and a small laptop in one device. With S60, you get a smart-phone with two screens and two keyboards, but using it does not give the feeling of a computer at all.

My opinion is that S60 needs a TOTAL makeover to come close to the usability of S80. And this cannot be done by a simple FW update. So, unless Nokia comes up with another S80 communicator, or a communicator based on a differet systm than S60 (something designed from scratch for QWERTY keyboard and large screen), the usability of previous communicators will just not be there.

I do not want to comment on the needs of other communicator users, or on the needs of Nokia's target market, this is just my personal experience and feeling.

:smileyhappy:

Really good definition for E90!

It's hard to create sw for small mobile. Now who will plan sw to support two UI's fluently? Maybe some day, but have not seen any yet.

With S80, sw was planned for S80 UI. In E90, sw is planned for S60 UI and somehow supporting other UI (keys and display)

9300i was VERY good in this respect. It just needed a little bit more speed and a few less bugs.

I did preffer two sepparate systems in 9300i: S40 on the outside and S80 on the inside. S60 was designed for the phone part and it is trying very hard (and kind of unsuccessfuly) to do the PDA part.

What I am looking for in such a device is small laptop functionality with phone-looks, not phone functionality with laptop-looks. But again, it might be only me...

Even the phone part is not perfect !
SMS details, Call reception (caller info), freeze after missing call, ...

Again, E90 is a very good product HW point of vue (except the GPS), but concerning SW ... it's a nightmare !

Btw, we didn't yet heard anything about the faboulous new FW ... !

Could you please STOP the annoying S80 vs. S60 discussion and get BTT!?

According to aikon.ch the new version is in production. Let's wait and see when the first devices appear on market.

Annoying? It has been great discussion :smileyhappy: And now there were also S40 'cover' included, quite little discussed from that part.

There will be many new aikon's to come. Until released and in device, S60 is what it is. Multimedia mobile, i would not say multimedia computer. 'This is what computers have become':smileywink:

But in sense, that S60 has very basic mobile features, it's not high end mobile either. So maybe multimedia handheld would be the best definition.

I am having a hard time trying to understand the point you want to get across. It could be a language thing, but the N95 is a high-end phone that is utilizing S60 as its core OS and outside of you no one disputes the fact that it is high-end. S60 is in the early development stages I would guess and will only get better. I am glad Nokia decided that 3 OS platforms were a drain on valuable resources and decided to enter into a more homogeneous environment.

Nokia is selling phones with S60 since 6 years ago. In all this time S60 only got to 3rd edition (WM got to 6th version in the same time), while the changes are minimum (you can try for yourself a S60 phone from 6 years ago and compare with one from today)

On the other hand Nokia is selling low cost phones, where S40 is justified, a lot of S60 phones, and finally the Comunicators. I think for the Communicators the S80 was more adequate than S60, so here you are: 3 systems for 3 COMPLETELY different types of phones. Same as S40 in not adequate for N95, S60 is not adequate for E90. Does it make sense ?

Re: E90 new version - available?

The first versions of Windows Mobile did not include phone functionality.

Please, don't compare only by the version number. Some examples:
* S60v3 uses Symbian 9, here it wins Windows Mobile 6 uses Windows CE 5.
* You could think that Windows Mobile 2003 is much more advanced than Windows Mobile 6.
* You could say that 60 (in S60) is much more than 6 (Windows Mobile 6).

Cheers

Re: E90 new version - available?

I did not say that Windows Mobile is better than Symbian, I do not even like WM. However, they seem to move much faster and respond better to customers' requirements. It is also true that WM started from a very low point compared to Symbian. But I am afraid that, once they get speed, WM might be very quickly ahead of anything else on the mobile phones market. And the reason would be that S60 is considered the future and it is moving EXTREMELY slow.

sapporobaby claimed that the developing time for a Nokia mobile phone is 6 months. If this is true, how come that Nokia was unable to release the much needed FW update for E90 in months ? This tells a lot about their "speed" when in comes to software. Maybe it takes 6 months to release a phone and another 6 months to make available a proper software for it...

Re: E90 new version - available?

Hello? Did you read the thread topic? If you want to discuss about series60, then open the 41956th s60 vs. s80 thread.

Here we discuss about the availability of the new E90 version. And i really don't give a **bleep** whats good or bad on s60, because it IS and WILL be the future communicator OS.

Anyways, the E90 V3 is on the way, i have heard. Keep your eyes open.
