I have taken part in many fora on the communicator and other interests, and i believe by and large majority of the participants are people who are positively interested in the subjects of these fora. also as they actually own these things ie Cars watches communicators etc. at least for me they usually are satisfied with them. actually for me this is a first where something i really like or have been a loyal patron off has recieved quite a number of non positive feedback.

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

In review:
"The Communicator, on the other hand, is a lot more like a computer. Switching between tasks is smooth and losing the work in a background application is very unlikely. "

Very unlikely? Switching between tasks is smooth?

"The huge display makes the difference. QVGA is one thing, 800x352 pixels is another, and the Symbian OS on S60 3rd Edition makes the best use of it."

"Built-in maps and basic navigation without charge "
"UI compatible with other Nokia phones "
"The E90 is miles ahead of all other Symbian smartphones, but still a little step short of perfection."

This review is done by amateurs. Total marketing phrases. And because of these, people are buing 'close to perfection' device and replacing old perfect device.

That was a good review and Active notes clear plus in E90. Even multimedia app, I think it's great for business (at least for most). It's very good that notes can be seen with PC browsers.

Already some compained about missing old notes because sync to outlook. But someone have to develope ne things, and this is a great example of something new. As personally I like HTML. Its common and simple format to share information. Most cases don't require more then html. And supported (because of web) in most platforms. No need to play with docs etc. Also attachments can be included and it won't cause a whole document to be useless even one attachment is not supported.

Also review was better. No commercial mambo jambo so much (then the one I commented previously..)

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

Hi all,

I come from 9500 (had 9110, 9210, 9210i) to E90 and I have to agree on almost all of the negative aspects here said.
The other day I got an email with a technical drawing that Nokia can't read and I wanted to save the attacment to memory card and transfer it to my comp (my Internet connection for computer was down). I was not able to do it! It just offered open or beam (which I couldnt get to beam the file to laptop over Bluetooth). This was a piece of cake even for 9110.
I hate the fact that the right part of the screen is useless, just a preview pane.
I was also mislead with reviews.
Now I dont know what to do, I'm trying to get used to it, but I look at my 9500 with sadness every time I pass by it at home.

I was reading also other , locked forum on same subject.
It seems that noone listed all the faults that are there to the same place.
Biggest faults for me:
-calendar same like in phone not like in organizer device (too weak)
-attachment handling in email is poor (see message above)
-no html support for mail view
-search in contacts is huge leap backwards; I really used the possibility to search by company, now i have to go to the search tool in office which is very slow and unfriendly. also you CAN NOT type first few lwtters and then hit space and start with another koyword (disaster)
-log is much less usable then befor
-keys on the phone part are smaller then neccessary and too close to each other (I hit nr.3 instead of red key etc.) one of the greatest thigs on old devices wes that it had large kaypads
-internal screen always resets to active standby when you open it
-file manager is weaker then before
-no possibility to copy/paste from web pages
-no caps lock
-no zoom in/zoom out shortcuts
-inside keyboard joystick is small and not very accurate

Not to sound all bad, I like the camera (very usefull), I like the new hinges system. GPS looks like a usefull thing too.

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

Actually there have been many listing of faults regarding the E90. You need to use the search feature as creating another list would be redundant.

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

I was just waiting for YOUR answer. I can see that you do nothing more then defend e90 around forums. Please let other people speak too.
And since it seems that you have a relationship with Nokia maybe you can pass this issues over to quicken their reply to the OBVIOUS flanks in E90.

Then considering you know what I will or will not do, you will also know that using the search feature is the best way to get info that has been previously discussed. Just like now. You will also know from other posts that I have no connection with Nokia. I just tend to use common sense before I post.

By the way, you tone was immediately confrontational for no reason. Begs to wonder if you are who you appear to be.

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

I agree with all your cons but th epro I do not agree with. If I want a camera I buy one. If I want a GPS I buy one. If I want a phone like the 9300 I do not no where to go, cause the E90 are surely not a "upgrade" for the 9300 or 9500

Don't keep 9500 in sight :smileywink: That's only solution.

There are too many (pros and) cons to list.

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

I think Nokia made a bad mistake in the branding of the E90. They should have branded it as an E-series rather than a Communicator. The fact that they combined the E-series and the Communicator name was bound to build expectations that would be marginally met at best and totally confusing at the extreme.

I have bought myself a brand new 9300i today. Hurey ! It is an "endagered specie" these days, but it seems that Nokia will not release anything better whithin a year. I support better the lack of speed and UMTS on 9300i, than the endless list of missing features on E90. And God knows I did try to load my E90 with a lot of 3rd party applications attempting to bring it closer to 9300i.
2110i, 6150, 6210, 6310i, 6670, 9300, 9300i, E90, E72, HTC Touch Pro2, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S II

Re: E90 Not as Great As it Seems

@vmoisa,

This was actually a smart move. Especially from the public aspect. Your purchase goes into Nokia's sale database and will surely be seen by those managing global sales. This might be one way for Nokia to make a decision about the direction of the Communicator line. I think they should either make it a complete E-series device or strip it down and turn it back into a modern day Communicator (without fax of course as this is not really possible). One problem might being to get the original software developers to support the newer S60v3 OS.

I'm happy to read your post. Not because you are in trouble but just because what you point out are the points we all pointed out !

These are so basic features we are now missing.

We had a list of about 60 points, but it has, unfortunately, been deleted ! :smileysad:

Some other weak points were :
- GPS - Very long fix
- GPS - NO way to easily planify a route (compared with Tomtom, Mio, Garmin, ...)
Such a feature is for me simply useless
- Camera - click to shot time very long !
- SMS :
- Details (date) is only accessible via "details option"
- Inner screen does not provide a complete view of the message.
- SMS containing numbers, ... are considered as link an are displayed with other background which make the SMS difficult to read.
- 1st character ALWAYS upper case !
- ...
- PIM management.
- Call received does just display the name of the caller, NOT his phone number (problem when caller has more than 1 phone number)

This list is not exhaustive :smileywink:
