Hello everyone - the E72 is my first E-series device and I like it so far. But I can't manage to get Chat set up.  From the home screen I select Setup Chat, and then it does a little download, and brings me to a Services List. It only ever says:

(no services available)

and Reloading doesn't do anything either.

I want to use GTalk - what do I need to do?

Try with another simcard (other provider!). First Nokia Chat wasn't visible, but after putting a vodafone simcard in my phone, it started showing Nokia Chat.

I'm in the USA and don't have access to another provider SIM. I only have AT&T.

Is Chat broken, or is there something that I am missing?

I'm in the same boat. I've got a new Chinese made E72-2 and the Chat setup isn't available. I had some luck downloading the E75 Chat beta with the minor caveat that it was designed for a portrait screen (soft button labels are rotated). I hope Nokia fixes this bug (as well as a long list of other bugs) soon. I loved my E63, but the E72 isn't living up to it's potential so far.

the Chat Setting Wizard has a bug on the E72 and for some people (like me) the application does not appear in Menu->Ctrl.panel->Net setting->Download.

What I did was to go to http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-messaging-chat , downloaded the version for E75 and got it working right away. Hope that works for you too.

I tried the E75 version, but each time it launched I got a java.lang.NullPointerException error and it said to restart.  I finally gave up and uninstalled it.

in regards to this issue, the e-71 client that i downloaded worked fine on my e72.

E75 was messy and did not work.

For whatever reason, the downloads suddenly appeared in my "Net settings". I was able to download the correct version of "Chat" for my E72 as well as given the option to download "Gizmo5", "Vyke Mobile" and "Windows Live". Perhaps this was a correction at the server end?

As already mentioned, you can download a working version through Nokia beta labs (link posted above).

It's not worth it, though, as free apps like Fring and Nimbuzz support a lot more services, including Skype.   They're both available through the Ovi Store.

StephenPM, what are the differences between chinese made E72-2 and American made E72-2? Does anyone know?

Questionz, Nokia manufactures phones in a number of plants around the world. I've only heard of E72s being made in Finland and China so far. The E72-2 is the NAM variant of the E72 and should be identical no matter were it is made. However, manufacturing problems can occur and component problems are possible, so I believe it is important to state the point of origin when posting a problem.

Hi All

Kindly remove the chat client u have installed and try to download it again..

menu> ctrl panel> nett sett>  Download> Chat

Now one will be able to install and update the chat as it asks on startup. it will bring all 4 IM's.
