Hi everybody!
I am using Nokia messaging on my E72 with my gmail account...is it normal that my gprs/umts connection remains always active to check new mail?
I thought that Nokia messaging worked the same as blackberry smartphones, so my phone has to use gprs/umts connection only when nokia messaging server sends him a notification of an
incoming mail...is is possibile to let e72 work this way?
Thanks in advance, James

I use Email on 3 primarily (also a push service) but have NM working too sometimes. There are no active connections as I write even though both apps are running. Are you sure it is active all the time?

Yes, I am sure. My gprs/umts connection it is always on to check for new mail.
I would like that my connection goes on only when there are some new mail to download, and it disconnects soon after, as in blackberry smartphones...is it possibile?

Nokia Messaging is NOT the same as Blackberry service. You give Nokia Messaging information on the various email accounts you want it to monitor and push email to you. But in order to push that email to you in an instantaneous manner.. your phone needs to be connected to the Nokia servers all the time.
Its the same idea as Blackberry service. but does not operate the same.

Why the Nokia servers? Emails from Yahoo for instance don't need nokia servers for anything.
Mine certainly isn't actively connected all the time to anything yet I still get mails pushed to the phone, usually before they appear in the opened mailbox on PC!

Hi
As far my understanding, Nokia Messaging is using IMAP IDLE protocol to push the new email to phone. Which mean, there will be an active connection (IDLE state) in phone.

The phone supposedly supports IMAP Idle but I have yet to find a single person that has gotten it to work.
