E72 Not Working!

I honestly don't know whats up with my phone, I bought my E72 around 2 months ago and paired it with a no contract pay monthly deal from T-Mobile and it worked perfectly fine till now. Erlier this week I got an angry text message from someone because they had called my phone over 10 times over the course of the day and left voicemails but didnt answer. My phone hadn't rung and showed no missed calls or even voicmail messages. It sputtered a bit after that, having bad connectivity in areas that it used to perform fine before, until it reached the point where i had no connectivity anywhere! Every now and again i get some bars appear but when i make a call they quickly dissapear and the phone says no netwerk coverage. Obviously I guessed this must have been a screwup from T-Mobile and I spent all my morning yesterday pacing back an forth in one of their outlets as the kids behind the desk called up different people trying to figure out why it doesn't work. First thing that was checked was the phones settings, which seemed fine, then they swiched the sim card assuming it had died. After that made no change they had someone over the phone reset the service settings (whatever the hell that is). They even tried the sim card on a phone they had there and it worked perfectly. After a couple other dead ends we tried restoring the factory settings on the phone which allowed us to make one phone call to their offices landline. But any other call didnt work, and its been that way since either having no connectivity or occasionally letting one get through but cutting of any sound from my mic. Oddly enough I get text messages and my email works fine (which i heard doesnt use wifi, only the phone services connection) so im at wits end with this. I will me more than glad to apologise if this turns out to be a problem with T-Mobile, but after all my insisting I see no results from compaining to T mobile. I'd like to hear some feedback on what could have possibly gone wrong. My phone has not gotten wet recently and it wasnt dropped, in fact i cant think of any reason that might have sparked this problem. Sorry for turning this into a short novel, but I am desperate to find anyone who might have a clue whats going on. I plan to visit another t mobile store soon and a nokia outlet as well to see who might help but any suppport is more than welcome.

Re: E72 Not Working!

Did you buy it new or 2nd hand? It is definitely a fault in the phone I would say.

Re: E72 Not Working!

Hey There,

I totally agree with you, my phone E72, has been behaving the same way. I bought 2 sim cards of the same network, one is in my Nokia E72 the other in the nokia 1208. My friends have both numbers and the one they try first is the E72 number unfortunately its unreachable half the time, they call the one on the 1208 and it rings happy. The same has become of the sms' they are not delivered , once I swap the sim cards the N1208 goes crazy with messages filling in. I am using the latest firmware, still having time issues on sms and running all the updates software OVI etc. The nokia maps is a none starter I have to use google maps. I have taken my e72 to the nokia dealer and they basically cant help. I hope they will be a change in things, at the moment the business smart is missing in the nokia E72.

Re: E72 Not Working!

Maybe there is a problem with 2G vs. 3G. Sometimes when a phone is switching from 2G to 3G (or back) it will not respond to the network for several seconds. Try forcing the E72 to GSM alone (not Dual mode) and see if you have the same behaviour.

Re: E72 Not Working!

I bought it brand new in the beginning of this year from Dell.com

Yep I tried GSM and went back to Dual mode for a day and back to GSM again, doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the signal.

After trying various different things it suddenly started working again after I first started this topic. Even though the signal was to weak for getting on the net at least I could make calls again, but now its on and off... But more often off. I find it  really frustrating that even though I tried doing my homework on this phone I still got shafted. Worst of all it worked perfectly out of the box, the email, web, GPS, and of course phone, worked great right until now, so I can't just mail it back saying its defective. And to think not long ago I was recommending this phone to someone. Well fingers crossed this thing doesn't stay a paperweight forever, I still love the phone but have no idea how the most crucial part of it could suddenly decide not to work.

Re: E72 Not Working!

I would suggest to update the phone to the latest fw ver 0.23

If it's not available to your product code, why not try to reinstall the fw you already have.

It might fix your problem.
