Hi,
I just purchased the Nokia E71x from AT&T. AT&T has blocked out a lot of features and worse than that, they have crammed the phone with a lot of bloatware. I was hoping if anyone on thei forum was able to get rid of the bloatware or has sime suggestion to deal with it.
Thanks,
Tinnsbuddy

Have you tried uninstalling the AT&T apps from the Application Manager? If that doesn't work, then maybe try connecting the phone to PC Suite and try deleting them using the Nokia Application Installer; select the desired applications that show up on the right pane (My phone side) and clicking on the trash icon in that section of the window. That is how I was uninstalling apps from the device that would not uninstall using the device's Application Manager.
Good luck.

Rogers does the same with the E71 that they sell.
I did a hard reset on my Rogers E71 and that removed a lot of the useless programs they preload. After that the phone had a lot more free storage.

These are great tips. Thanks jcb18 and Robertz. I will try these and post back the result.
Thanks again.

I'm afraid that the bloatware and disabled stuff is the price you pay for getting your handset through the network operator.
They disable services that they see as a revenue loss for example VoIP calling, and put on other "applications" that they see as a revenue gain.
Seeing as they discounted the phone in the first place, they need to recoup the cost of that $465 USD/$540 CAD (approx) that they have spent in providing the handset to you.
See:

and to a certain extent:

If you dont like the bloat then I'm afraid you have to shell out more cash, and buy the handset unlocked and without a contract.

The E71x is only available from/through AT&T. So no amount of additional cash will help.

I believe shuntfield was talking about purchasing the regular E71. Still works fine on AT&T.
Yes that exactly what I mean.

I think shunt is suggesting that you would purchase your same e71x from Nokia directly for $300-$600 just so you can have the same phone without the bloat. Make sense?
Just need to make it clear that the E71x is an AT&T branded version of the regular E71. There are differences in the OS and hardware (the E71x has no front camera for instance)

The E71x for AT&T is also based on S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2.
Whereas the original/regular E71 is based on S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1.

The main point I am making regardless of if the handset is a AT&T (or network) only handset is that if you dont want a branded handset then the decision how to purchase it should be made.
I know exactly what the E71x, and what its functions are, regardless of that the point I have tried to make is if you get a "handset" from a network then expect it to be messed with.

I just found a link earlier tonight that may help:

THis is really cool....the information at this link works like a charm. I was able to remove the crapware from my phone and make it look cleaner.
I have boomarked this site too....looks like there will be a lot of more useful information at that place.
Thanks so much jdreamer! !

Worked for me too! I just gave a ton of **bleep** to the AT&T Support Rep last night about not being able to disable or dump the crapware, and she was sympathetic, but didn't believe there was a way to get them off.
I freed up about 15 MB of space, but the room on the Games&Apps screen is much more valuable. Looks like I'll still have the Shop Games and Shop Apps links, but I'm OK with that.
Any idea on when AT&T will open the Ovi Store for the E71x???

I registered just to say this.
I don't mind AT&T adding stuff to my phone so much, but it looks to me like they are purposely forbidding nokia from making the ovi store available. After all, AT&T has their own store for apps/music/games. I may just get an unlocked Nokia e63-2, in order to get my ovi store working.
