Hello there. After years of using Windows Mobile I now how a E71x and really like it. I have poked all over the web but can't seem to find a way to change my idle screen. I would like to remove the shortcuts and enable a count of email, sms, and voicemail messages.
Please forgive my noobage as I am still getting to know this phone and the really neat OS.

I have a regular E71.. so as long as AT&T didn't mess up the menu structure of the E71x you would go here:
Menu - Tools - Settings - General - Personalization - Home Screen - Mode Settings - Home Screen Applications - Enabled Applications
Untick Application Shortcuts to turn off the 6 shortcut icons. This will still leave left/right softkeys on the bottom.
Then tick:
Missed Call Notification
Message Notification
Voicemail Notification
Email 1/2 Notification
These will only notify you of NEW events and will not show a running total of the inboxes.

AT&T seemed to mess this one up too. This is what I have:
Menu - Settings - Config. - General - Personalization - Idle screen mode(?)
There's no "Home Screen" setting, but in the "Idle screen" section you can customize the Shortcuts (Left, Right, and 1 - 6) and the "Idle scr. theme (Horizontal, Basic, Vertical).
Not sure if that helps at all ![]()

did you try this?
Menu - Settings - Configuration - General - Personalization - Idle Screen Mode
Not 100% sure if it'll get you where you need to go
