Re: E71 keyboard problem

I too had the crazy keyboard problem.  Pressed Down and New Contact would open, press S and I got DG#L ??!!!

Solution - Essesntially you have dirt between the keyboard and the keyboard membrane, which is causing this odd problem.  Phone is still working good a week after doing this solution.

Steps:

1 - Remove back, leave battery in place, test as you go.

2 - Use a Torx 5 /T5 screwdriver ( http://www.suntekstore.ca/t5_screwdriver_for_cell_phone_tool.html ) and remove the 4 screws

3- Depress the 4 keyboard clips, these are recessed and located between where the screws were.

4- You can now remove keyboard and front cover

5- Clean keyboard membrane (nothing aggressiv, wet a papertowl with a gentle cleaner, I used a little windex)

6- Use the keyboard membrane to operate the phone (be gentle)  If it works hooray, if not curse me

7- Clean the back side of the keyboard

8- Bad news your screen will have got dust on it and so will the inside of the cover, clean them

9- Reassemble

I had the same problem. WSXOLØ (Ø = Danish key), space and the down button not working as it should and after trying what Jacks above explained I discovered that the 4 screws were screwed in too tight and if I had them loose instead of tight the problem would stop.
