E71 is a good PDA, but not a phone.

I wound say E71 is a very good PDA, which can run a lot of soft others device can't.

However, as a mobile phone, whose core function, call in/out, can't work stable, E71 is suck. Can it be named mobile phone?

Let me  the fatal bugs existing in E71 (200, 300 firmware), which is branded as E series.

1. device hang when incoming call. When user is receving incoming call, the device freeze, and have to pull out battery to restart to fix it. Nokia, though who represents the stable, exist such bug in the kenel fuction.

2. Phone call delay....

Actually, for 1, I can recur it every 50 times incoming call. Do you know? I can only make one person to my customer  after making 50 calls. If the latent customer making call to me, and he is lucky enough to freeze my phone.... I can't image...

Dear Nokia, could you please see what's your customer is complaining? I lose a customer won't affect, but please take good care of your customer.

Can you fix these two bugs in next firmware? Can you give us a good reason if you can't?

We are waiting for you .

I haven't. I think its a bloody brilliant phone n everything works as advertised, tho i dont use MfE so cant comment on that. Have u checked ur network settings? is it set to dual mode?

Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Network Mode > Set to 'Dual Mode'

Thanks for your information. But I have tryied both GSM & dual-mode some days before, can't work either.

Let me show you the solution I have tried:

1. Try to use different mode: GSM & dual-mode

2. Change a new 128K sim card at carrier.

3. Format phone. try to receive incoming call with totolly clear device without any 3-part app.

4. Change another battery.

5. Use the basic ring but not mp3 on memory card.

What I didn't try is to downgrade the device firmware to 100 ( currently, it's 300 for my device ), which is very risk.

And, definetely, it is not a  single case, you could search out a lot same cases by google "E71 freeze incoming call".

Re: E71 is a good PDA, but not a phone.

I am on my fourth E71 since mid August. This time, I appear to have a good one, but it has taken a long time to get it. I haven't experienced any of the specific issues listed, but can fully understand how someone might think it is a good PDA but not a good 'phone.
My first E71 simply didn't perform well as a 'phone. The RF performance (i.e. ability to hang on to a call in weak signal areas was much worse than any other Nokia I've ever had). A return to the Nokia Service Centre didn't make any difference.
My second E71 crashed after a few days and would simply not restart.
My third E71 had the same problems as the first, but worse (I charged up my old 6150and tried it side-by-side with the E71; the 6150  was vastly better as a 'phone, though it clearly isn't a PDA !!).
I've had the fourth E71 for about four weeks now, and I'm starting to enjoy it. I can also say that despite my criticisms of the O2 network coverage, O2 customer service throughout these problems has been quite good. Trying to communicate with Nokia (and believe me, I tried) has not been an experience I would wish to repeat.
I think the real question in my mind is how on earth does a company such as Nokia succeed in putting a 'phone like the E71 on the market without apparently ensuring that it performs correctly as a 'phone.
My advice to notbadman woul be "keep trying" if you can afford to. When the E71 works it is truly excellent. But don't think that every one which comes out of the Nokia factory is perfect.
Good luck.

Re: E71 is a good PDA, but not a phone.

I can also praise the E71, it's an awesome handset that I was using for about a year, the only regular issue I had with it was with 1 piece of the 3rd party software I always use, but that's only because I kept forgetting about it.

Truly a great piece of kit, both as a PDA and a mobile phone.

Seriously, if you are in your job hunting season and your E71 keeps hanging your potential employers calls, you will understand what I mean.

As an engineer, I am wondering whether those E71 guys are fired by Nokia? Maybe that's why they are not able to fix it anyway.

Re: E71 is a good PDA, but not a phone.

It's not affecting all users, I never had a hung call with mine, nor did a friend I got to upgrade to it... It could be a clash with 3rd party software, and/or an issue with manufacturers variant firmware that's causing the issues.

Re: E71 is a good PDA, but not a phone.

just google around to see how many people are having their E71 phones (not other nokia phones) freezed on incoming calls. My E71 has a firmware versioned of 200.*, however, NSU tells me that this phone does not have updates available. No idea what's going on there.

you are lucky and I am not. but anyway, I miss my old nokia phones that "make calls right"!

If you're stuck on an old version, either the update isn't available in your country, or you've got a network variant which are renowned for causing problems
