Re: E71 email problem

Do you have email service already?

Are you using Hotmail or another webmail service?

If you are using your internet service providers email service, then you can use this:

https://nokiags.wdsglobal.com/advanced?siteLanguageId=118

To get configuration messages sent to your handset to set the email up. Just follow the prompts.

There is also this:

http://www.nokia.co.uk/A41178300?&loc=set_up_your_email

Which should help you out.

Re: E71 email problem

I have email on there and I used to get emails when I first got the phone but than I didn't want it so I stopped the email thing but now i want it again since my new job requires it. I have hotmail but everytime I click the "email" icon it says " no email defined. defined now?" type in your email address and password than it goes to saying "bookmarked email to web browser, enabled to use."

Re: E71 email problem

I'm not exactly sure what you want to do.

Let me start by saying that the E71 email interface uses two types of mail service, a Push mail service with Mail for Exchange so as soon as someone sends an email you'll get it instantly. This is can be complicated to set up, you need to have an Exchange Service with the company you work for, and it takes a fair bit of setting up, and from your post you seem that you may be a novice at this :smileyhappy:

The second interface is a POP3 and/or IMAP mail service that is normally operated by internet service providers, this is a standard internet industry service.

Hotmail is NOT supported in anyway because it does not have any POP3 server addresses that you can use. You must have had a POP3 service before, for Hotmail you will have to use the WEB browser and login as normal. Hotmail is a web based service.

There are other web services that provide mail in web and POP3 form.

You need to find out all the details for setting up a new POP3 mailbox from your internet service provider. From this you will find all the information to use the WGSGlobal Mail Setting provisioning service that I mentioned earlier.

Alternately if your job requires the email, and they have an Outward Facing Exchange Mail service then you can contact your companies IT department to configure your E71 for that service. If not, and your employer requires it I would ask them to pay someone to set it up, or have their IT department do it.

Re: E71 email problem

Which country are you in? Generally there is a Windows Live application that you can install when you first get the phone, you will need to check in the Installations folder. Otherwise if you are lucky you can get it from the Download! page. Another way you can get Hotmail email is by playing around with the email settings a bit. I finally got my Hotmail accessed via the phones inbuilt email program today.

First off create a fake email address on the phone.

Once this is done go into the email settings and go to the connection settings.

Incoming email

User name: name@hotmail.com

Password: ***********

Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com

Access point in use: you choose

Mailbox name: you choose

Mailbox Type: pop3

Security port: ssl/tls

Port: default

APOP Secure login: off

Outgoing email

My email address: your email address

User name:  your user name without the @hotmail.com bit

Password: your password

Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com

Access points in use: you choose

Security: ssl/tls

Port: default

that should get your hotmail emails up and running on your phone for you.

Hope it helps

Re: E71 email problem

Alternative is nokia mail, again - it wont work with hotmail or exchange. However, gmail, yahoo, mobileme etc work ok. Sign up for nokia mail...

http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action

then simply add up to 10 email addresse, the service will send a link to your phone for the software installation, install the app and your off..... works a treat.

Re: E71 email problem

Hi,

I can't seem to get my hotmail to work on my E71. It keeps asking me for username and password until it finally says access denied to server. I did exactly as you said. Is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks.

Re: E71 email problem

Hi,

I did exactly as you said. First I created a Gmail account in the phone's inbuilt program. But since Gmail uses IMAP service, I couldn't creat my Hotmail with your given instructions. Then I made a Yahoo account with which I was able to make changes and configured the connecitons settings as you mentioned. But everytime I try to retrieve my emails it keeps on asking me for username and password until on the third or fourth attempt it says access to server denied. One thing I'd like to mention here is that if I try to compose an email, in the reply field it displays the fake email address I initially created instead of my hotmail address.

Re: E71 email problem

ok, so did you then modify your fake email settings into your hotmail settings? The reason for the creation of the fake email address isso that you will be able to modify them into the hotmail settings.

Like I said list down everything that you have done because I really dont know where to start with helping you. Just like I have done with my details. I need to you list them down for me.

Re: E71 email problem

Jabbafat23,

I am having the exact same issue as Doston.  I have a Yahoo account.  When I use my internet/phone provider's 3G service, I am able to check my yahoo email effortlessly.  However, when I want to use a WLAN, then that is where the problems occur.

Here is what I have done:

1.  Launch yahoo mail.

2.  Prompts me for connection

3.  Service Provider's Internet/3G

4.  Send and receive mails no problem as well as web browsing

1.  Lanch yahoo email

2.  Prompts for connection

3.  Select WLAN (Starbucks...)

4.  Prompt me for mailbox username, then password

I enter it, it asks if I want to save it, I say yes.

5.  Promtps for connection

6.  Promps me for mailbox username, then password

I enter it, it asks if I want to save it, I say yes.

7.  Prompts for conneciton

8.  Promps for mailbox username, then passord

I enter it, it asks if I want to save it, I say yes.

9.  Says cannot connect to mailbox

NOTE:  When I go to use browser, it prompts me for a connection, I tell it WLAN (Starbucks) and it connects easily.

It is just an email thing with WLAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: E71 email problem

If there are still people unable to connect to hotmail with the solution provided, check whether they can connect to hotmail using outlook express. There are actually three(or two) kind of hotmail users. The premium(some free and some paid) and normal(free).

Re: E71 email problem

Dosten, You need to create a completely fake email address. Ex. fakeemail@fakemail.com; from there you will be able to modify the settings.

[ Edited ]

For full sites browsing, try opera mini http://www.operamini.com. The quality isn't the best, and complex sites like facebook will only work a little better than your phone's browser. I think what I like about opera mini is that it doesn't crash like my phone's browser does on certain sites.

For the email problem, Nokia Messaging http://email.nokia.com is great - worth a try.

Re: E71 email problem

For outgoing mail for hotmail, msn, live etc

you have to use StartTLS instead of SSL/TLS and it will work fine.

Re: E71 email problem

Hi

For the last couple of days I have problems with my E71.

I can't connect to my gmail box, every time that I'm trying to update my mailbox, the phone just stopes working and I can't enter the messagings. So I have to turn off the phone every time in order to begin the work again! I'm using the original mail, but I tried and another mail application and the problem is the same. I checked all the configurations but they are ok!

If someone knows how to resolve the problem I will be verry happy

Thanks in advance!!

Hope that someone can help!!!
