Wouldn't it be nice to swap the functions on the chr/ctrl-key? A patch could easily enable a "swap-mode".

It's hard to swallow that the E71 is down on the number of keys on the keyboard but design is more important than functionality these days. After enjoying the E61 a lot, I had very high expectations about the E71. But again, it seems impossible to make the perfect device. Someone is messing it up, always.

I do agree that it is stupid of whoever designed the phone to prioritize Chr as I hardly ever use that button but indeed use Ctrl at least once every day.

still missing the ability to do control shift dpad to select whole words but that's something I can easily do without...

Agree. I just came up with another theory: other territories out there seems to miss the Fn + Q = ! alas they don't have double "value" in the qwerty?
If so _they_ need Chr more than we do - to bring up these special characters more often.
Check out this example:

(or is this pic just an early model?)
If some markets miss the "double value" keyboard, then it makes more sense to make Chr "default" in the lower right corner, in _their_ setup.
Just a(nother) theory.

Check the key next to Chr/Ctrl, it does either "?" or (if pressed after pressing Fn) it does "!"

This doesn't help me at all. I will be installing the firmware update and hope it allows me to move the Fcn-key to the Chr key, the Chr-key where the Ctrl-key is, and the Ctrl-key where the Fcn-key is. Anyone who is a moderate or power user, needs to be able to Ctrl+right key through words to edit a typo in a message or email, not hold the right key for an eternity.
Copying is time consuming in the same way, and the tip above doesn't speed up pasting (left key, scroll, brew pot of coffee as scrolling, then select editing options, then paste).
With the keypad, this phone has been a complete step backwards—and no I didn't have an E61. I want to remap the keys, I don't care if it doesn't make sense to someone who tries to look at/use my phone.
