Just an update from May 2010. My son & I have identical E71s on 3.

He can send e-mail using his own smtp, with no problems.

I need to use smtp-mbb.three.co.uk. My e-mails arrive via my blueyonder e-mail address, however, and 'reply' addresses them back there.

I had many of the frustrations noted above, but perseverance appears to have got me through. This in conjunction with using 'recent:address@blueyonder.co.uk' on both phone and laptop for incoming mail, are keeping my e-mails synchronized nicely.

One odd thing- if I add multiple recipients to e-mails, only the first recipient receives it. Odd, but I can cope with this minor irritation.

It goes to show that one solution does not fit all, but the 'definitive' answer above certainly helped me- and I thank you for it.

many thanks to all those that posted on this thread. Having spent a long time on the phone to 3, who could not get it to work I treid all the solutions above - and one worked for me.

My ISP is plusnet and I have a Nokia E72 - have set outfoing to smtp-mbb.three.co.uk and it works

When i changed outgoing port to 25,my E71 finally sends emails thanks to member shuntfield!
