I have an E71-1. I am in the UK and on '3'. Firmware version is 100.07.76 My problem is I cannot send email to my POP server. It goes to the Outbox then is reported as Queued. Trying to force a send does not have any effect. It would send emails until a few weeks ago.
I have re-set up the server information correctly in the 'phone. The server is sending and receiving emails correctly from Outlook. The E71 receives emails normally.
I have set up another POP account on a different domain on the 'phone and I have the same problem (but it uses the same server). Any help would be appreciated.

just my 2 cents here.
Very often mobile service providers (Vodafone, O2 etc) block outgoing messages unless you have in the settings specified there outgoing email server (SMTP). Thus it working from Outlook has nothing to do with it.
Double check with your mobile service provider, try entering their SMTP sever on you E71 email settings.
There is not much can go wrong with sending mail - just SMTP server.
So give it a shot.

3 UK blocks the standard SMTP port and you should change the outgoing port to:587 from 25.
Port 25 is blocked on their network as a security measure.
To use port 25 you will need to use their SMTP server.
To change it go to messages then select options then mail settings, find the mail account you want to use and then open the outgoing settings, change the port from default to 587.
I'm assuming that they use port translation at their gateway, otherwise you will need you ISP to support port 587.
Shunts...

Thanks - I tried this, it works but emails are sent from 3mail.com domain rather than the IMAP address I use. Don't suppose anything can be done about this????

Had been battling with this very problem for a fortnight until I came across this really useful thread. It all came down to the Port setting in the end. Evidently Port 25 is not compatible, so just change the settings to Port 587, and make sure the security is set to 'off'.
Despite the previous comments, you shouldn't need to try to disguise the sender name, nor rely on the 'reply to' settings.
I was able to set it up to work with the smtp settings from my usual ISP, so the emails are all sent as if they had come straight from my regular Outlook account.
I don't think that the E71 could have been promoted as a Blackberry equivalent if you could only send emails through the operators own (in my case '3') account servers, because that would look rubbish!
Hope this helps. And thanks to everyone for the useful answers.

IThanks...but I'm still having problems here :-( - outgoing emails just sit in "Queued" folder
Can I ask some basic questions?!
1. do you only recieve emails when you connect to your mailbox (ie download manually) like I do, rather than Blackberry type synch?
2. what do you have as your outgoing mail server - should it be the imap domain of my email account or the smtp.three.co.uk?
I have changed Security ports to "off" and Port to 587 but still no luck
3. was I right in selecting my email account as the default, rather than 3?
Any help here would be appreciated!

Sorry you're having trouble. I know how frustrating it is when it doesn't work!
1. Yes - as far as I can see the E71 doesn't have an 'always on' connection like the berry (unless someone can advise differently). I have mine set to Email retrieval: enabled; Retrieval days: every day; retrieval interval: every 30 minutes. I think this is the most frequent setting.
2. Your outgoing server should be you normal email account settings, not the '3' settings. In order, it should be: regular email address / user name (for me this is the same as my email address) / password for your normal email / the usual outgoing mail server for your email (imap or smtp - check your normal settings) / Access point: 3 / Security: off / Port 587.
3. Once you've got this working, having your email account as the default is the right way to go.
Hope this helps. I don't profess to be an expert, but I seem to have got mine working somehow!

Success! - it was a combination of going through your helpful comments and double/triple checking everything else...but I got there in the end.
Cheers.

OK, here is the definitive solution to OUTGOING mail using Nokia E71 on 3 in the UK.
You cannot use your own SMTP server, you must use EITHER
smtp.three.co.uk on port 587
OR smtp-mbb.three.co.uk on the default port (25).
On Connection Settings > Outgoing e-Mail all you need is 'My email address'.
Username and password can be blank (you are authorised to use 3's server by the network)
Outgoing mail server: smtp-mbb.three.co.uk
Access point: 3
Security (ports): Off
Port: Default
For me, smtp.three.co.uk did not work but smtp-mbb.three.co.uk did.

Pardon me for my contribution, but are you using '3' as your network?
It may not be true for you, but it is true for me. It was obtained from the '3' chat support last night and it has (at last) allowed me to transmit some email.
Your advice does not work on my network / phone and I know my smtp from my stmp.
I know I should be able to use my own smtp server as well as 3's server, however none of the advice on this thread (including to use port 587) has worked for me apart from the settings I posted. I hope it helps someone else and I don't think that using 3's smtp server is necessarily the end of the world (in fact, as someone else posted most ISP's insist on it).

Yes, I am using '3' as my network. I'm delighted that you are now able to send/receive emails and if you are happy to do that with a joe.bloggs@three.co.uk account then that's great.
But for me (and I suspect for many people) that would not be acceptable. I need the emails to come from my 'real' email address otherwise I'll go back to a blackberry and with the settings I have listed, I am able to do this.
I just took exception to your use of the word 'definitive', as it clearly is not - no matter where you got the info from! And these forums are so important to help people out of infuriating situation, that false statements can do more harm than good at times.
I was not, however, dismissing your valuable input to the thread!

Manycity69, you sure you're not using a roaming SMTP, hence the reason you've not had any problems with outgoing mail via your server?? I do this through Fasthosts for my email (means I can email from any domain I have from any device).
But agree with your comment that not all customers will be happy (or be able to) email through an @three.co.uk or similar domain.
Until about 18 months ago I was using the same outgoing SMTP settings as per my outlook set-up, which meant going through a BT server. This literally changed overnight and some research around the web has shown many ISPs are doing this to prevent spamming through their servers.

ManCity69 does not have my problem, therefore I appreciate his attempt to help but his solution will not work for me. It is frustrating that I cannot make it work as he has. I want to use my own SMTP server but I can't. I believe my solution is the definitive one because it should work for everyone.
For anyone who has my problem, my posted solution should work. And I have looked at the emails I am sending using other email clients, and they are not arriving from "user.name@three.co.uk', the 'From' and 'Reply To' are my normal email address, perhaps it is getting these from the pop3 settings, I don't know.
And as we are blundering around in the dark here trying to solve our own problems instead of getting high quality technical support from 3, we will probably never know.

Well I have annoyed myself today...
I remembered that I had set my e-mail settings to download a vast quantity of e-mails as backup of information when I was abroad. Today I remembered this (After I wondered why I had so many e-mails on the phone). So I deleted my e-mails.
Now, some how, I deleted my whole e-mail account !?! Maybe I deleted to many times? and the actions continued? Who knows. I usually know what I have done when its something stupid...
Anyway Setting up e-mail... Downloading easy
Sending... No Joy ![]()
The settings you have listed look right to me (I only got my E71 mid Sept so seems familiar) and I worked out how to set it up myself.. This time I am struggling...
I'm sure last time my e-mil address was "me@mydomain.org" and the outgoing was smtp-mbb.three.co.uk and as long as my e-mail address matched the e-mail I was sending from everything worked. But now it doesnt. Doh!
which ever combinations I try the smtp server (or phone) keeps prompting me for the correct user name and password. I dont remeber having to fill them in...
Baffled.
Must have changed something
