E71 SSL Cert Issue

E71 SSL Cert Issue

The Situation:

I'm using several E71's in my company. They have all been set up to use Nokia "mail for exchange" using the built in version of mail for exchange that came with the phone.

I'm using mail for exchange to synchronise with a Microsof Windows Small Business Server 2003.

I'm using a self signed ssl certificate created by the Small Business Server. I manually copy this to the device using the Nokia PC Suite.

The Issue:

the E71's continually prompt with this:

"Website has sent a certificate with different website name than requested. Accept anyway?"

Selecting "Accept this time only" is the only option that works. However, the devices prompt over and over again.

Choosing the option "Accept permanently" does not work.

When i look at the details of the SSL Cert on the E71 it appears as:

Site: remote.publicdomainname.ieIssuer: sbsserver.sbssdomain.localSubject: sbsserver.sbssdomain.local

I know this may appear to be a Small Business Server issue but its not as the SSL cert works on a Windows mobile device.

Anyone come across this issue?

Thanks for the support in advance.

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

I am having the same issue. It will let me select 'accept permanently' but then asks me the next time anyway. Pretty much every 15 minutes, anyone got any ideas?

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

Dear Pajoryan,

We encounter similar problems with real SHA1RSA V3, 1024 bits RSA Instant Certificates of Comodo installed for our website: www.bzoox.nl We have the feeling it is caused that the Nokia does only understand a selective group of certificates (menu->tools->Settings->General->Security->Certificate Management. So most likely a test certificate is for sure not registered in this "certificate management" base. It is a pity for real certificates that the certification authority is not looked up automatically or can be added automatically.

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

I think I may have figured it out. Go to the old certificate and delte it. Tools -> Settings -> Security and select certificate management then delete the old certificate the when you next connect a new certificate will arrive.

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

I having a similar problem when i visit a url starting with https on my E71. When i initially accept the certificate as "accept this time only"  everything works fine. When i leave the site and then come back to it after 5 mins the phone does not get to the wapsite at all. It goes to load it and then stops.

The certificate is a multi domain cert from Comodo and works fine on most phones apart from the E51 and E71.

Has anyone any experience with this?

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

I have a certificate with Comodo *.domainname  SSL certificate - and am having the same problem.

Apparentlty, the "accept this time only"  option works because it by selecting this option it bypasses the security check.

The Vodafone Helpdesk were unaware of the ability to delete old certificates ( Tools>security> certificates) and suggested that the phone was incomaptible with exchange!.

I have previously had the E71 working on the old commodo certificate - so I know that it is possible

So frustrating.....

Vodafone now suggest formatting the phone!

Re: E71 SSL Cert Issue

You should contact Comodo directly. That's what I did and it turned out that the certificate that they issued was never going to work on Nokia handsets. It's to do with the root chain apparently.

I had to get the cert reissued, except this time with a legacy root that will work on Nokia's.

Everything works fine with my site now. Let me know how you get on.
