To me that sounds like somebody changed the product code of your phone (which is illegal...), because it doesn´t match the product code on the back.
Where did you buy the phone? If you bought it in a store (virtual or real) I would give it back to them and ask what might have changed the product code (it obviously doesn´t change itself...).
Keep us up to date on this! ![]()

Actually, this phone, E71, was bought at Mexico City's Nokia Flagship store on 20-March-2009
So, I'd assume its a legit phone...shouldn't it be ?
I'll go back there andd see...
Also, has anyone experienced this behavior ?

For the sake of testing, just downloaded the en-us version 1.5.12en of the Nokia Software Updater.
Same result as above:
The reported phone is: Nokia E71 (RM-346) firware version 110.07.127
While the *#0000# sequence on the phone reports RM-357 as stated in my first post.
There is definitely something very weird with this unit. I will go to Nokia and request a product exchange or return as has been suggested.
Has any of you seen this before ?
Any other comments or ideas are also welcome. Thanks in advance.

Well....
Today I went to the Mexico City Nokia Flagship store and requested to speak with the manager.
I explained my "discomfort" regarding the differences of product codes seen in the output from the *#0000# versus the product code detected by the Nokia Software update.
I explained to him that this is completely unnactable and, besides that, a very weird situation. He was indeed VERY kind after he understood (sort of) my problem when I demonstrated him with my laptop, my E71 and the NSU. He offered to test several N71 units to find out what happened.
It turns out that out of 3 phones, one behaved exactly the same as mine. One was ok, but a firmware version version older and then he brought another E71 from the latest batch.
The latest phone turned out to be on fw version 200.21.118 and the product code RM-357 matched with the product code shown by the NSU, which also stated that this unit was on the latest availabe fw.
The manager offered to exchange my E71, (bought there 1 week ago) to whatever unit I wanted from the ones we tested. I took the latest one.
I must say THANK you to Mr. JVVP / manager at the Mexico City Flagship store for his kind attention and interest on the actual problem I brought in (and weird problem also, as its not common for people to come with firmware issues !).
I will keep in touch with this guy and try to find out later on what really happens with this phones and the product codes mismatches.
Will try to keep you posted.....
Kind regards from Mexico City.

I have the exact same issue. LATAM E71 purchased from legit Nokia rep in Paraguay.
CODE: 0553094 so device says it is 110.07.127 (09-10-2008) RM-357 E71-2 (32)
But the updater says RM-346 and no update available.
Sadly, my sales rep doesn´t want to hear about it as it appears I am not the first complaint.
Do you think Nokia is going to address this issue as it seems pretty darn common?
Did the phone your agent gave you with the updated software still have the same CODE? (0553094) or something else?
What was it?
Thanks...

I am the original poster of this thread.
As I explained in a post before, I returned to the Mexico City NOKIA Flagship store and returned the original phone I was given when I purchased the E-71 in that same place.
This happened between a few days of the first purchase and then my return of that phone.
You are entitled to a factory warranty and the phone should operate as specified by Nokia itself. This includes the firmware upgrade when done through the Nokia Updater (NSU) and as instructed by the NSU and by the NOKIA on their official web pages.
If the phone is failing to do so, it is a factory defect, against their own specs and you should demand the repair of the failure or, even better, the replacement of the phone as I did.
If your sales rep is reluctant to replace the phone or give you a satisfactory answer to your claim, ask for his supervisor's name or his boss name and get in touch with him directly, escalate the procedure as neccesary, even up to the business manager/owner/CEO, etc as appropriate. Do not let the sales rep just say "NO"...because he doesn't want to address the issue.
My two cents, hope this is useful.
Sorry for writing in English, I know you are from Paraguay and I am from Mexico, so we could do it in Spanish...but the forum is in English. Buena Suerte tough !
Kind regards.
