E71: Menu is not opening

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

If you press and hold the Home button, it should bring up a list of running apps.  Close some of them.  Scroll to highlight the app, and press the backspace key.  It will ask if you wish to close it.  Press the left soft key to say "Yes".

You may also want to install EQRestart and/or JBTaskman which has a reset button which can make doing the resets quicker.

I reset from time to time when performance is slow using one of the two apps.

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

This is a known problem and is fixed in firmware v300.

In any case: do not do a hard reset as is advised by these 'Nokia experts'.. It won't help anything.

The bug is coming from the top left blue button. Default 'Menu' is assigned to this button. In some way this is redundant because there is already a default 'Home button' just below it.

A way of fixing it is by putting another function on this button. I replaced it with clock (because I use it very often).

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

Add me to the list. I had this problem with the previous firmware and with the new. They didn't fix it. It's a great phone, but does has a lot of bugs! A shame really..

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

Sorry it took so long to get back.  It appears that firmware v300 is the best fix, at this point.

I have no idea how to find which firmware version I am using. And I have also been trying to find where v300 is located. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

*#0000# shows the current firmware. Just visit a Nokia Care Center to get it flashed to current v300. Solves tonnes.

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

One would think that would be an easy process. When I called my provider, they do not support any firmware other than v100 that came on the phone. When I get the replacement, I will try that address to download v300. Thank you for the help!

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

Try changing the menu key to the other soft key on the right. This seems to work for most people.

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

I have presumably the latest firmware, *#0000# shows 300.21.012. Same bug is still happening, menu won't open. It really seems that this issue has not been fixed in this firmware.

Re: E71: Menu is not opening

I have  a UK model E71 with 4.x firmware and confirm that the problem is still there. Press menu, small bar appears to the top right and that's all. Phoe still runs, but a power cycle is the only way to 'fix' it - for a few days.

You woud think with the number of times this has been reported Nokia might just care to fix it..... sigh.
