Re: E71 : Auto Remote Lock

Hi. I've tried a couple of times & the remote device lock seems to work fine without corrupting my memory card (well, not yet anyway). I've also got the phone lock enabled (which asks for PIN when starting up the e71) & this doesn't seem to conflict with the remote lock either.

Re: E71 : Auto Remote Lock

Hi guys,
After a terrible night of searching for ways to get back my memory card after my E71 was locked by remote lock function, I finally find out some ticks for myself and want to share for those who are feeling annoyed with this security setting on E71.
How to use Remote Lock on E71:
On your E71, go to Menu - Tools - Settings - General - Security - Phone and SIM Card:
1) Set your NEW lock code (default code is 12345, assume that you have not changed the code so far):
         - Enter 12345
         - Enter your new lock code (this code is used to unlock your phone after being locked remotely): example, If you want to set the code "iloveyou", then enter iloveyou (without quotes)
         - Verify your new code: as exampled above, you have to enter iloveyou
2) Allow remote lock:
         - Change from No to YES
         - New remote lock message: (enter the message you use to send from another phone to you E71. As soon as your E71 receive the message, your E71 will be locked). Assume you enter the message "lockmyphone" (without quotes)
         - Verify new remote lock message: enter "lockmyphone"
         - Lock code: (you will be asked for lock code to make sure that you are the owner of E71 on your hand, if you enter the lock code incorrectly, all you have done in step 2 will be unsaved), as exampled, enter: iloveyou
        - After "code accepted" appeared shortly, you can return you phone to homescreen and your E71 is ready to receive remote lock message.
Must remember:
You have to remember 2 things before you can check how secured your phone is after activating Remote Lock function.
First, Remember LOCK CODE to unlock your phone. As in the example, you have to remember the phrase iloveyou (If you dont, be ready for a nightmare at noon... hahaha)
Second, remember REMOTE LOCK MESSAGE to send a message from another phone asking for your E71 locked and (very important) REMOTE LOCK MESSAGE is the password to make your microSD accessible to your card reader, you have to remember the phrase: lockmyphone
If you don't, to format your memory card from your phone is the only way to make a PC read you memory card.
Issues after remote lock
Issue 1: Some newbie experienced "memory card corrupted" and was asked for formatting.
Solution 1a: On your E71, go to Menu - Tools - Memory - Options - Remove memory card - YES (for the warning message on the screen), and remove your memory card from the slot then press OK as required on your screen. Finally, re-insert the card into the slot. Now, your phone can read the memory card.
Solution 1b: In case solution 1a does not help, try to set LOCK CODE to 12345 and ALLOW REMOTE LOCK to NO (refer to the paragraph above for details). [Some say addtionally, go to Menu - Tools - Encryption, and set Phone Memory, Memory Card to OFF. You, guys can check it]. After that, follow the solution 1a.
Issue 2: your E71 can read you memory card, but PC cannot see your card through a card reader.
Solution 2: Insert your memory card into your E71, go to Menu - Tools - Memory - Options - Remove password - YES (for the warning message). The password you have to enter is REMOTE LOCK MESSAGE, as the example above, the password is: lockmyphone
If "password removed" appears on the screen, then go to Options - Remove memory card - Select - Yes - Remove it from the slot. Now your card can be accessible by your PC thru a card reader.
HOPE ALL THESE HELP!

Re: E71 : Auto Remote Lock

hi, after tweaking a little bit with this option, here's what I founf out:

- the remote lock option cannot be tested with SMS sent via a web page!

- the remote lock code is case sensitive, if you put one letter in capital in your blocking message, it won't work!

other than that, works like a charm, very thoughtfull Nokia :smileywink:

Re: E71 : Auto Remote Lock

Your memory card password will be the same as the remote lock password after your have locked your phone remotely. The password will be activated to the memory card during the remote lock. You can remove the memory card password  via Menu > Tools > Memory > Options > Remove password. For this you need to enter the remote lock password.

If you move the memory card to another device, and you have not removed the memory card password, the password is requested. Then you should enter the remote lock password.
