E7-00 update to Anna broke my Security Code feature

When I first received my E7-00, I setup a lock code on it. It is 6 digits, and I had to type this code every time I turned on my phone (many many times now, in other words I know these 6 digits very very well).

I recently upgraded to Anna. After installing Anna I had issues with Anna Update 1/2 not installing. I was impatient and peformed a hard reset (*#7370#). The phone asked for my lock code, I gave it, everything was good.

After a hard reset, I notcied that the phone wasn't asking for my lock code on boot anymore. This made sense to me: I figure the code got erased through the action of performing a hard reset. I promptly went into settings and setup my lock code again. I used the same 6 digits I've used on my last 6 Nokia devices; again, I know this code very well and cannot forget it.

Today I tried installing an app from the betalabs site (Maps Suite) and it just would not install. Lots of people seem to have the same issue, so I wasn't overly concerned with WHY (though of course I submitted my failed install log, etc). I really wanted to try this app, and since I recently did a hard reset I figured there was little to lose in doing another one. So I promptly entered *#7370# again.

As expected, the phone asked me for my lock code. I entered the same 6 digits I've used for years on my nokia devices. The code was rejected. Seriously, I'm confused about how this could happen, the lock code is somehow NOT the code I've always used -- but this is not my primary concern now.

I did really want to install that betalabs software - so I did a 3-finger-salute (hold down Camera + Menu + VolumeDown while booting the phone; is equivalent to *#7370# but works without the lock code).

The hard reset worked for my purposes, the C: drive was formatted; this fixed my issues with installing the betalabs software. The E: drive was NOT formatted, however. I thought this was odd. A bunch of apps I had installed on it, along with 6GB of music and all sorts of documents - they all remained on the E: drive. Again, this confuses my, but is not my primary problem.

On the first boot boot up (and all 4-5 since then) the phone prompts me for my unlock code before letting me use it. I type in my code, press OK, and get an error message "Code Error" - but then something strange happens (my primary issue here): The lock code request just goes away and I am left to use the phone as if I had entered the code properly!

I've noted that I can type ANYTHING into teh lock code request prompt, and it still always lets me pass.

I still can't change the lock code in my settings, since it rejects my current code every time, so I'm left without a working lock on my phone.

Now, my phone has no warranty (it came from teh developes device program) so I don't think I can take it into a Nokia Care center. I'm thinking I'm stuck with this, unless someone here has some meaningful advice.

I know this was long winded, but I wanted to be sure the full issue was explained clearly and not waste people's time with a short description that could lead to confusion about what I have and have not tried.

The next most obvious step, I think, is to do another 3-finger salute (with an old priest and a young priest standing by). I'm afraid to do so, of course, since the whole security mechanism seems faulty now and I'm not sure if I'd just get locked out of the phone entirely after another hard reset...

Thanks for your time and attention,

-Jared

N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

Re: E7-00 update to Anna broke my Security Code feature

Have you checked if ovi suite lets you reinstall the Anna update? If so please reinstall and perform a format from within the menu which also says delete. This should format all memories and reset it.
