Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

II have met similar problems and fixed them by eliminating duplicates which can be hidden by the fact that the same phone number can be on different adress book entries especially when some contacts have several phone numbers.

A serch function is key here to find the duplicate numbers.

if it dose not exist on the phone like on 5800 you can use the search function of the PC application you synch with like Outlook.

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

I'm actually not familiar with this problem. All of my contacts show up properly on my E63-2, and most contacts were copied off a SIM card that was originally in a Motorola RAZR V3. And they were usually stored with the international phone number. Do you think it might have to do with the fact that I'm in the United States (so +1xxx xxx xxxx)? Because both the international number and the national numbers work properly. Or maybe its my service provider (Unicel)? Because I just tried calling from my home number, and the number shows up as "Home". And all my friend's mobile numbers (Verizon users) show up correctly as well. I'm really actually not sure why mine doesn't do this. There's got to be a reason why mine doesn't do it and yours do. I don't believe it could be that I live in the US, does it?

I'm also using firmware 100.21.110 (which the phone came preinstalled with).

Current Phone: Nokia E63-2 (US Version)
Service Provider: UNICEL

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

Ive had the same contacts problem with the E71. It was and still is a real Pain. This is what i did:

1) I copied all my sim contacts to my phone

2) I deleted all sim contacts

3) Copied all contacts to PC Suite

4) Exported all Contacts to a Comma Separated Value (csv) file
Opened this file in NotePad
Replaced " with "' so that numbers could be properly read as text in the
spreadsheet

5) Opened this file in Open Office Calc (or excel) as a csv/txt file

6) Used the telephone numbers field as the sort field

7) Went through the list to see whether there were 2 or more numbers that were the same...believe me i found many

8) Deleted the duplicates and the contact names

9) Saved the file as a csv file

10) Imported the file into windows address book (PC Suite was unable to recognise it)

11) Saved the file as an address book file .wab

12) Deleted all contacts on my phone

13) Imported the windows address book file .wab into PC Suite

14) Syncronised PC Suite with my Phone

Phew!!!

This is a Nokia Bug, BTW, the non Symbian Nokia phones dont have this problem.

You can have the same number on ONLY ONE contact name

On one contact you CAN have the same number many times, and the contact name will show, as for example mobile, business, home etc.

Also, as a general rule of thumb – i think – if the phone does not have a "Timed" option in Profiles, then the phone is likely to have this problem.

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

I am using an E71 and experiencing similar issues, however since I am traveling the issues only occur in certain countries with certain providers. In toronto CID works fine, in Guyana digicel CID works fine, however in Guyana GT&T CID shows me "call" for all incoming calls, I receive the complete number in a SMS text however - it seems to be the way the provider send the CID information in the SS7 signaling and the way the phone interpets it (that's my initial assumption).

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

I'm facing the same problem with my N73. I live in Brazil, and althought I do not use country codes on my phone book, neither receive international calls, the local calls come in a 019-XXXX-XXXX format, with 19 being my region's code.

Unless I add 019 to all my contact's numbers, it wont display the contact's name. This was not occuring before I updated the firmware of my cell phone. Now Nokia says that's no way of downgrading the firmware, and once N73 have been discontinued, I'm pretty sure that I won't have new versions of this firmware.

I now that fijiboy is being rude to other forum's members, but I'm also tired of receiving the same "duplicate contact" answer...

I've already reseted my cel phone (3+send+*), cleared my phone contacts, and also SIM contacts, and I still can't make it works. I've read from some members of this forum that it cn be related to a ald SIM card. Is it true? My SIM card is the same that I've been using for the last 5 years, so if there's a  chance of getting this resolved by changing the SIM card, please let me know.

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

Hey Fijiboy & hello Nokia Support (who has been lazy to debug this problem!!),

I hope both of you are reading this. I found a solution for the problem: hard reset. You have to:

1) backup all your data

2) do a hard-reset (*#7370# or the green - * - 3 when powering up)

3) caller ID lookup problem should be solved

Beware, hard-reset formats your C: drive and resets its contents from the ROM, all your setting, calendar entries, etc will be lost!!

In details: I had the exact same problem on my shiny new E52.

My symptoms: some numbers were not matched to contact names. They were easy to test, when typing in the number by hand (ie not selecting from Contacts), the redial (Log) screen showed only the number. For successful lookups, the contact name was shown.

When removing the last digit of any phone numbers that had unsuccessful lookups, the lookups started to work (for the altered number of course, ie. orig number was Joe-12345678, changing his number to Joe-1234567 and dialing 1234567 manually made "Joe" show up in the redial list).

Then I remembered that after having GPS problems (which were also solved by a hard reset btw), ans syncing with PC Suite then with ovi.com, I saw lots of contacts without phone numbers and lots of contacts without name (!) but a phone number. As if my contacts got separated from their numbers... I solved this issue by deleting all contacts from the phone, then doing a one-way bluetooth-sync with an old phone of mine.

A few days later I noticed the caller ID lookup problem, today I started to dig around. This forum was the closest I found, but my problem certainly matches yours.

At the end I figured, contacts.cdb must have been corrupted, and I am guessing the "numbers without names" were still in the database, but were inaccessible - since without names they cannot be shown in the Contacts application. (This suggests pretty **bleep** programming btw, I think the application should be intelligent enough to rebuild the database when corruption is detected. Or at least offer a rebuild or cleansing option...)

I dug around to find a solution to restore my Contact DB to its default state - no such possibility; I hate this microsoft-like attitude of Nokia.

So I ended up with hard-reset, which formats the phone. Of course, I could reset all my setting manually AGAIN, thank you Nokia.

I hope people will find this hint useful.

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

r1ch, thanks for all efforts, but it didn't solve my problem. I've already hard reseted my phone over 10 times, and it didn't worked..

I guess it fixed your phone because it removed some duplicated entry, once you said that it didn't show the names of SOME of the contacts, not all of them...

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

duplicate entry also means your contacts stored and showing of sim card and phone memory. also did you read this link

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

@pbertolin: shoot! Sorry to give false hopes... I did not realize you already tried hard reset. And I guess I was just as frustrated as you & fijiboy, and I was so euphoric when I found my solution. Anyway, if I were you, I would surely scream & shout at Nokia. It is really a defective device then, and they must give your money back if repair is impossible. (This is at least what local law says here in Hungary.)

@radical24: thanks, but fijiboy already stated he has no duplicates, not even on the simcard, nor in the phone mem... pls read back, poor fijiboy has already been annoyed to hell by these suggestions :smileyhappy:

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

On a similiar note, I DO have the incoming call showing the callers name (and where apllicable their picture).

But I cant get this feature to work for text messages. All it says is "1 new message". I was hoping that it would either say (and show if theres a picture) who the message is from when it comes in.

My friend has a 6500, which is older, but his shows a picture and name when he gets a message from someone in his contacts list when he gets a text.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

duplicate is the most common cause, tho not the only one. did you read the thread i attached. it also explores other reasons as to why phones behave this way. the incorrect international format does the same thing as double entry :smileywink:

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

Thanks for all of you that tried to help me. I'm sure that my problem is somewhat similar to the country codes one.

As I said before, Im now adding my contacts with "019" in front of their numbers, because that's the way they income: 019 - 1234 -5678

I tried to include the + signal instead of the 019, but it didn't work.

I'll make some more tests and I'll let you knwo the results for it... thanks for you all.

Re: E66 Incoming Call Not Showing Contact Name

I have the same problem offlate (Nokia N96).  I noticed that names are missing from some of my contacts.  Phone contact application does not show or indicate this as there is no way  for them to show blank contact names.  I've been using OVI to sync my contacts.  It appears that OVI online db is corrupted (though I can see all my contacts and manage them) and its corrupting my phone db. Have anyone seen a support option for OVI???

Bottom line is, there is no way to completely delete the contact db once it gets corrupted.  Only option is to reformat the phone and spend another day to install all your apps. and configurations.  Too bad for a smart phone.

Nokia has to go a long way in the higher end market.  Their quality control is next to nill. Even today, my phone reboots or crashes every other day.l get "memory error" if I browse for 5 minutes (note that my phone has the latest firmware.  I had a long fight with Nokia to get BlueTooth issues fixed in their earlier firmwares).  Intellisync based mail client is so slow and I hardly use this for mails (I use it only for calendar now).  Message center crashes often wiping my personal email (IMAP/POP3) details. Oh boy!!!

I've used my wife's BlackBerry Bold for a while.  I can do everything that I do with N96.  The phone stays alive for weeks together without any problem; no stability or reliability issues.  Mail client and other apps are quite responsive even after a week.  I decided, my next phone will be a BlackBerry.
