Re: E65

Have bought the E65 yesterday and I have to say it's great.

Not so happy with:

1. Very weak WiFi receiver
2. Calendar tasks not visible on main screen
3. No nice movies or music standard available
4. No memory card

Rest of the phone is very nice..

This is rather strange.

1. The wifi reception is so strong on my E65, that it stays connected to the router despite me keeping it in its cloth pouch in a drawer inside my bedside table (its my secondary phone), about a good 20 metres away from the router itself with 2 brick walls between the 2 devices.

2. Calendar tasks show up on the main screen one day before being due.

3. What do you mean by standard? It plays mp3s and even divx/xvid with Smartmovie for S60.

4. Mine came with a 256mb microSD card.

Have I misunderstood you?

Re: E65

I've had the device for over a week now. I've bought virtual radio an application which turns the phone into an internet radio as well. Basically now it has all the capabilities of the n80 but a 2mpg camera instead of a 3mpg camera with flash. The camera quality is almost as good as the n80.
Overall the e65 is a neat device.

Re: E65

Using the phone for about 4 days now and am very impressed. Build is of extremely good quality and the slide feels solid unlike the 6280 or 6111. Feature wise one has to remember this handset is aimed at the business market being an E-Series however this does not nescessarily mean it lacks features. Full music player, flash player, real player with video and audio streaming, mail client with support for all major document formats. The 2 megapixel camera is of good quality and only lacks a flash and some adjustments which your average N-Series would have. Operatiing system is extremely stable and Wi-Fi works like a boon. Picks up wireless networks easily and connects seamlesly. The Catalogues list is extensive witha wide variety of applications, themes and walpapers to choose from. And it also supports Blackberry, mail for exchange and Intellisync.

I would give it 8 out of a possible 10.

Hi,

No you didn't misundertood me!

1. Wifi reception is weak, I have to be in the same room to receive any signal from my Linksys wireless router. What kind of router do you have?

2. I was wrong, it works fine now!

3. I mean that sometimes there are some nice movies or graphics in the phone when you but it. In the E65 is every folder empty but that's not a PROBLEM.

4. I have bought a 1GB Micro SD card with the phone.

Re: E65

I've had mine for a couple of days and found the help and manual book lacking in trouble shooting questions and such. e.g....

1. Syncing: I have a mountain of problems syncing it with my MacBook and am waiting on help from Nokia and Mac discussion boards. The plugin won't install.

2. The data transfer connection does not last more than 30-60 seconds with bluetooth and maybe under 4 minutes with the USB cord.

3. The stnadby screencap in the manual and online has multiple items listed including new voicemail, SMS, emails, meetings for the day, the *number of To-Do items, and if *WLAN is found. Those asterix do not appear on my standby screen and I'm unable to change the settings to make them visible.

4. The clock in the top left corner has only one analog style per theme and is unchangeable.

5. the alarm clock setting cannot be repeated. I have to reset my morning alarm every morning unless I create a daily calendar event with an alarm at that wake up time. - Not my ideal way of setting an alarm.

6. When in locked keypad standby with the dark screen and just the date and time displayed, I can barely read it and am forced to bring the mobile from unactive standby to active standby to be able to read the time. I would prefer a more "lit-up" screen when it's standing by in my bag.

7. PC Suite instructions of use imply it is also useful for Mac, but not the case when looking online and trying. How Mac friendly is this phone?!

Despite these problems, I'm optimistic that this was the best choice of phone from those available from three in Australia and I'm happy with my choice. I now wait with anticipation to see responses to my calls for help with my syncing and mac-friendliness problems.

Re: E65

got one last week and in general i'm very happy with it.

Single most annoying thing is the lack of software to use it with a mac. Got isunc working ok but that's just for contacts and calendar really.

Can't get Nokia Collector to work with it.

If anyone knows of any 3rd party software that's compatible with series 60/e65 i'd love to know about it.

The camera isn;t that great really but it's fine.

Am sure i'll think of many other annoyances but that's it for now.

PS - one other thing does anyone have suggestions for the best and most cost effective way to run the e65 as a Sat Nav?

Am i right in thinking i need to buy a separate bluetooth GPS thingy? And which software is best/cheapest? Wanting it for UK and Europe...

Thanks

Re: E65

Hi,

I have my E65 for about 2 weeks now, in general I am happy with it. Few things that annoy me:

- Opening received text messages. It takes very long to open a new received message and I was wondering if you have the same experience with this.

- WLAN: I can't surf on unprotected WLAN when I find one.

- Not many software to download (yet?)

Who has some helpfull suggestions??

You could try pressing the power button - this activates the backlight in standby/locked mode.

Re: E65

Hi,
when i press the power button in standby locked mode it does light up the screen but it gets rid of the power saver.
Is there a way to light up the screen and not get rid of the power saver?
i.e. to light up the screen so you can check the time displayed on the power saver instead of going to the active stand by screen?

Thanks.

No...what would be the point? The power saver is there to conserve power by keeping the screen mostly unused. Having the backlight come on kind of makes it totally redundant so you may as well show the standby screen.

Re: E65

I am thinking of purchasing the E65 as well. You wrote that it didn't have a memory card and have since made a purchase of one.

Didn't the original package come with one? That is strange.

Whether or not you get a mini-sd card in the box is dependant on market conditions, purchasing channel such as through your operator and so on. So far most of the retail packages I have seen for it in the UK do not include one.

Re: E65

Micro SD, not mini, and mine didn't come with one.

It runs fine with a CK-7W, an LD-3W and Tomtom Navigator 6.

Wi-Fi reception is much stronger than with my previous E70, and Tomtom is much more stable than Smart2Go, which would commonly crash if you asked the phone to do anything else.

Yes...Micro...well spotted that man. :smileywink:

TomTom is a much better navigation suite than Smart2Go but commercial applications always are...with the exception of Microsoft Windows but we won't go there today! :smileywink: I think the Smart2Go client is still very very good though for its price, or lack thereof!
