Re: E65 firmware

I find my E65 crashes if I'm using bluetooth headset and voip and it loses contact with the wifi AP, or sometimes if I take the headset out of range of the headset.
Wireless is v unreliable, it will often fail to detect a nearby hotspot until the third attempt (friend with an N95 had similar problems until update); wifi is alsa insensitive, have to have a very good signal.

Re: E65 firmware

tomato2: are you sure that you didn't get your first phone back instead? I believe that the changed component "D381B" is controlling the keypad backlight in E65.

I´m sure that the phone is not the same that the first one. When I got the second phone I got it with the box and I gave the first one at the same time.

It could be that the problem with the keypad and the reboot it´s the same, a defective component

Re: E65 firmware

Hi Guys,

after following this thread for some time now and also being one of the neglected "customers" I decided to sign up so that we grow in numbers.

I think everything is already said however I too have called / emailed and called again to "customer care" with the result being nil. I have restarted / reset my phone many times - as per advise from "c.c" and since this procedure doesnt solve the problems I was advised to go and get an update at the Nokia service centre. I'm not happy to give my new phone away with no supplement leaving me without a phone for days or even weeks. Besides the fact that the phone is not one of the "cheap" ones and its owners have good reasons wanting the features this phone (should) have.

Besides the described flaws and reboot problem this phone / firmware has my E65 also makes a buzzing noise if the keypad is lit.

The last time Ive spoken to "c.c" I was told that a new firmware update is "on its way". Trying to get a more specific time frame the reply was: In the next few weeks.

Patiently waiting - already since June -

But if - for some reason - the problem is due to a Hardware rather than SW problem I would be very dissapointed that Nokia does not come forward with tis information...

Whilst I'm lucky enough not to have suffered as much as you guys have had with the slider, reboots etc, I have found a problem which I have not seen posted elsewhere (Perhaps I'm not searching for the 'right' words)

When the slider is up, I get a faint high pitched noise it kind of sounds like (if you can imagine) the dead tone when dialling a wrong number, it's just constant.

Has anyone else experienced this too?

For the record my FW is.

1.0633.8.02
26-01-01
RM-208
Nokia E65 202.03

On the UK 3 Network.

On the note of complaining,

If everyone complained and got no answer then why not send their phones back to the retailler they got it for and demand for a new phone, other than the E65, you are well under your consumer law protection to do this as the phone is not working as it should.

This is what happened to Panasonic with their phones, Panasonic failed to listen to complaints or said they had released FW updates (but didn't work) retaillers became annoyed with all the returns they were recieving and crippled their mobile phone market.
(This is what I was told by the Communications Technology Manager at Panasonic when I worked there)

Another issue I've found is that sometimes the contact list button sometimes does not work!?

Re: E65 firmware

Hi Kian1977,

Thats what Ive tried to describe as well: When the slider is up the keypad illuminates and gives out a high pitched noise. Mine is constant though. If I slide it outside hence the keypad isnt lit there is no noise..

Also experiencing the contact button problem, I restart the phone and then it works again..for a while..haha.

Re: E65 firmware

the only bug I discovered so far was the 4 keys failing to respond (contact list, my own key, mute and voice meeting) after a specific opening/closing of programs.

It happened to me twice but never again since then and I don't know how to reproduce the problem.

The other thing that needs to be "fixed"/added to the phone is support for SDHC (cards bigger then 2gb)

Any high pitched or low pitched noise the phone makes is a hardware problem and not a software problem. Mine doesn't make such a noise

Re: E65 firmware

as for "a few weeks" to release a firmware update for the e65. "a few weeks" could be anything from a single digit to a double digit and therefor could take a few months.

and without an official respond the "guess" you're getting is from a low ranking employee who's not aware of all the details and picture. There might be delays, bugs in the firmware itself and other problems that might cause it to delay

so a few weeks could be anything from a month to a couple of months

My E65 has gone bald waiting for a firmware update!

A great phone ruined by zero support and poor quality casing.

[Message: Hi,

Having recently purchased the E65, I have found a problem, which I'm sure has been mentioned to you before, and this is that when the slider is in the up position, there is a high pitched noise coming from behind the keypad.

Please can you give instructions to resolve it.

Mwuaaahaha.. that is soooo sad but typical int it.

Its similar to the fact that this forum comes under the section "Get support and software"...hahaha

Tremendeous support we are getting. Business phone...I wish we would be treated like business customers.

It is so frustrating that we are being simply ignored even though Nokia staff is reading through and following these forums.

Is it really such an effort to flip an internal email to the right department so that someone actually cares and deals about it and us as "valued" customers instead of phrasing us off with standard useless answers??? Has Nokia got complacent?

Does anyone know if there is a possibility to go public and if so where would be a good place to do so?

To be patiend is one thing but to be constantly ignored and not supported is stretching the limit.

Tips:
• Insert smileys and other emoticons by using common key combinations

I dont think that any "smiley" or emoticon would express the frustration mounting up for E65 Owners!

Re: E65 firmware

Lol, I live behind the Nokia HQ in Farnborough, Hants, perhaps I can infiltrate the building and speak to someone there...can't see that happening though.

Another thing we could do, well for the UK Nokia customers is to write in to BBC's Watchdog, who if they get enough response would investigate.

Re: E65 firmware

That's a good idea!

I suggest you start a new thread calling for all UK based E65 owners to contact watchdog.

If I lived close to nokia HQ I would send my E65 back to them, tied to a brick. :smileyhappy:

You could also try The Register - would not get so much coverage but well respected in the industry.

Re: E65 firmware

Yea I would be up for that. I would suggest to make it international rather than U.K. based only because there are many other threads and forums out there who share our burdon. And therefore "cutsomers" from around the globe.

And Im sure that there are also international sites - phone hardware and other mobile phone or customer related ones who would be happy for an ongoing story like this!
