Re: E65 firmware

Hi there,

I just saw the message on nokia beta labs that the App "Conversation" would only run on the E65 if:

"Note: you need to have the latest firmware to make Conversation work (3.0633.09.04, if available)."

is there something on its way?

Re: E65 firmware

it's time to face the facts and learn for next time

while the N95 sold lots of units and had numerous updates like the recent one a few hours ago which let the N95 view videos on it's browser (like in youtube.com)

the E65 so far has received only one bug fixes update.
we don't need to guess that it's because the N95 is the flagship product of Nokia and that the E65 sold a few unites

while the N95 cost 3 times then the E65 at the time I purchased it in hinder sight I should have taken this into consideration, I will on my next purchase of any technology

Re: E65 firmware

I still rather have my E65 than a **bleep**py N95 which is very badly built. Seriously, when I took a month old N95 in my hand it seemed like it's going to fall apart. The screen of the N95 is lovely tho, can't say anything bad about that.

Re: E65 firmware

I'm on 3 and had no updates whatsoever.

I'm totally annoyed with Nokia, I've gone and ditched it, and now bought a Sony Ericsson K850i which I am very happy with it, no problems whatsoever! It's the first SE phone I've had, but it certainly will NOT be the last, the only last phone I will have is a Nokia!!!!!

Re: E65 firmware

Still no love for Vista? I guess I'll have to hook my phone up to my server machine then.

Re: E65 firmware

For Vista users: Install NSU and then put it on compatibility for XP SP2. It works like a charm:smileyhappy: This is how I updated my firmware.

Re: E65 firmware

I waited a lot this update because my company has a hidden network (TKIP) I can't connect to. The funny thing is I can't update because the updater tells me "unrecognized phone" even if phone code is 0542331 and site says it should work.

Till Nokia will fix it's soft, did anyone who upgraded noticed any change in WLAN behavior? Does it connect better?

Re: E65 firmware

@bogdans

yes, wifi is definitely more reliable since the updates. whilst it can't make the wifi more sensitive (it has trouble pulling in any signals which aren't at least medium strength, I presume because the E65 has small internal antenna), it seems like it, perhaps because the wifi software is more tolerant of errors?

I went from being moderately unhappy with my E65 to fairly happy when the new firmware was loaded.

Re: E65 firmware

i have not used extensively yet but it seems that power consumption of the phone is a bit better with wlan switched on. i have left my email connection online for almost a whole day now. wlan has some power saving mechanisms but now it seems that the device utilises it in a more efficient way.

Re: E65 firmware

someone didn't follow proper procedures

I'm following the update news section waiting for an update and the new version 3 wasn't listed there. also for the changelog

Here's the changelog from http://logicalobscurity.blogspot.com/2008/04/new-firmware-for-nokia-e65-v306336900.html

needless to say that the phone is coming to it's "end of life" and I wouldn't get my hopes up of seeing any new FEATURES being added

"Here are a few changes made from v2.0633.65.01 to v3.0633.69.00:

Messaging
* Reading SMS time stamp information unified between regions
* SMS sending from SIM toolkit - Profile 07 improved
* Unicode handling with Turkish characters corrected
* Correction to fetching email from freemail server
* Intellisync: First time contact search improved
SIM

* SMSC is re-read from SIM after switch on
VOIP
* Improvement of co-operation of Gizmo VoIP client and internet voice mailbox
* SIP proxy authentication corrected in outgoing call if two SIP profiles with same realm and user name
WAP
* Correction of Chinese word corruption with WAP browser
* Searching in Hebrew from portal corrected
* Wap GET/POST forms corrected when using Greek characters

Re: E65 firmware

the latest news update said that the N65 support will be removed temporary (and other phone models)

I guess they ran into a bug or a problem and they still haven't renewed support for those phones

see software news update here: http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_529019

Re: E65 firmware

And where in that page is written that support will be removed for some phones? I can't find.

It is strange that different national Nokia sites give different informations. For example, in the Romanian one the info that E65 is not supported is still there. On the other side if one inputs the code (0542331 for my phone) you get that an update exists.

Re: E65 firmware

they've edited or deleted the news after publishing (and they don't publish a lot of news) because I can't find it either now

they stopped support for the e65 along with another model and some time before that they stopped support for the n73 and resumed it

Re: E65 firmware

As far as I know, you can download the NSU from the official Nokia web page. The update process downloads the firmware automatically and it includes all the supported languages. So if they don't discontinue the support for the E65 on this site, you can still update and get support.

Re: E65 firmware

Basically you are right, but I did so and the result is "unrecognized phone". I am forced to wait for an update.
