E65 NSU support Back on please!!

Just tried to update my E65, and the latest E65 says phone not supported. Was not going to mind a lot but the E65, expensive as it was, is really playing up. Does nothing without alerting a general system error and it is beginning to really annoy me. anyone got any advice, besides taking my handset to the nokia care center?

Another bad thing is, if you install current software updater to Windows, not just it can't update, it also breaks PC Suite connections thanks to the mysterious "flashing cable driver".

I install Virtual Windows XP SP3 to a PowerPC Macintosh just to run software update and this happens. Very sad in fact.

So Nokia guys, we better go get ripped off by your service center giving up the phone 48 hours not knowing whatever they install and lose all our data like old times?

iPhone thing updates via iTunes both on Mac and PC. It is sad that I have to give that example as a person who hated the closed phone idea right from start.

E65 is still on sale and it is pretty expensive. Not like we are asking support for a 7650!

Re: E65 NSU support Back on please!!

E65 support has been suspended for what, a week or two?

1. nokia doesn't HAVE to provide firmware updates. they do provide them, and rather frequently, but they don't HAVE to.

2. for a large ratio of the availability of the device, the E65 has been supported by the Nokia software Updater

3. support has been temporarily suspend. this happens from time to time with various handsets. typically, nokia seems to pull support for a particular handset when they see that there is a potential for something to go wrong in a manner which would greatly upset their users. THEY ARE PROTECTING YOU. and you're mad about it.

i'm just getting so tired of hearing people complain about things like this. would you rather that they do business like Apple and close the OS to the homebrew software developers? How about switching to a microsoft business model where updates (on handhelds) are rare and buggy and the OS is a hodge-podge of absolute **bleep**? oh oh oh how about having them charge less for their devices but then completely ignoring their users after the device ships? you know, the way you feel right now, except ALL the time, instead of just for a few weeks.

*grumblegrumblegrumble*

ilgaz has a good point regarding the PC Suite functionality, but everything else regarding NSU is just knee-jerk backlash against a company that is doing a great job. it drives me nuts.

N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

Re: E65 NSU support Back on please!!

I've given up on Nokia for good. My E65 has been relegated to a SIM free VOIP phone for home use.

If we only required firmware updates to get new, exciting features I wouldn't mind. But let's be realistic... the phone is slow, crashes and freezes regularly.
