Will a standard 3.5mm headset with mic work with the E63? In other words, will a headset that can be used on an iphone, blackberry, etc., etc. work on the E63? I know the earphone part will work, that the E63 connector looks like a standard connector, but would like to know if the mic from a standard headset will work.

Yes, I would like to know the answer to this as well. I recently purchased this phone and tried to use the nokia headset that it came with. Not surprising the headset was garbage. Major static interference, completely unusable. The person on the other line could not hear me and I could not hear them. I have had nokia phones in the past and while so far the phones themselves have been quality, I really can't say the same for the accessories. Anyway, I purchased a separate headphone/headset in fact it was the apple iphone one that is used for iphones and ipods. This is one of the few headsets that has a mic and a volume control which is something that I felt was useful for this phone. When I connected the headset to the phone, at first it recognized as headphones with no mic, then it said it was a non supported device. Please someone at Nokia or anyone else who is reading this message let me know what headset is compatible with this phone because if I can't find one that is, I'm returning the phone. The main reason I bought this phone was for the 3.5 jack and the non-proprietary freedom that comes with having that feature. Again, if this is not the case I will return this phone. I hope someone wil be able to help me with a good suggestion.
One more note, I attached some regular cheap headphones and they worked fine. I could hear the person on the other line well and they could hear me using the phones mic although not as well when the phone is too far away from my face. I mention this incase someone might be wondering if it is the phone that's the problem. Using the phones mic is not an adequate solution to this problem. I want to be able to use a good quality headset with this phone, if that's not possible then I will return the phone. I'm still within my 90 days. Except for this one issue which to me is a major issue I'm quite happy with this phone.

i have BH-208 and e63 and they don't wanna work together, maybe this is nokia, one is good, ten are trash, hey don't get me wrong, i love nokia, i'm a nokia fan, but what's wrong with you people?? you make a good phone, and a good bluetooth headset, and this too things aren't compatible in 2010, and bravo bravisimo, in romania-the land of "good and forever business" WE DON'T HAVE THIS THING --->"then I will return the phone. I'm still within my 90 days"
maybe some one will hear me and do something, or NOKIA or the phone operators services like ORANGE....pfff like dust like orange...we pay and we get bad signal, and all that s***, now come on, we are in what year???????? i tell you in what year, in the year when all they are interested is just money, they don't care if your pleased with the services/devices they are selling/producing, yes you can choose, the choice is yours......i love NOKIA, so mr executive/manager/director of NOKIA please make this thing--->"then I will return the phone. I'm still within my 90 days" possible in all the countries that will sell your product, because you will have more people loving NOKIA, this is my opinion, i'm sorry if i ofended one....

Good luck trying to get an answer from Nokia. I asked this same question already both over the phone and in an email. My email was simply ignored and the customer service people over the phone were absolutely of no help whatsoever.
Let this be a warning to anyone that's looking at these boards and is trying to decide whether or not to buy a Nokia product. Nokia's customer service has to be one of the worst that I have ever had to deal with, especially in the US. They have virtually no presence here. Customer service, repair centers, stores, etc. are all over seas, mainly in the Philippines. So beware that if you buy a product from them you will virtually have no support whatsoever. Due to their poor customer service simple issues like these can become incredibly unnecessarily complex.
So beware, I for one will never buy another Nokia product again due to this issue until they can prove to me that they have adequately addressed their lack of customer service. It really is a joke and unfortunately it's on us the consumer.

Bottom line answer to this question, even though Nokia doesn't want to admit it, is that only Nokia headsets work with Nokia phones. So Nokia is still very much proprietary. Regular headphones work fine but headsets don't, plain and simple. It's amazing how hard it is to get them to admit to anything.
