After reading various post about some of the issues with this release, I have a few questions that needs to be addressed.
I kinda understand the battery drain of the phone due to the fact that it has a very high resolution touch screen. Given a touch screen is a battery hog, no real big surprise to anyone but my question is about email and text notifications. Does the phone vibrate or make a chime when a new text message or email is received? What is the point of the phone if you are not notified when a message is received. I know the notification light is a very serious issue but does the notification light only work for missed calls and text message but not for emails?
I also understand the logic with the Wifi auto-connect to networks used on the system due to that being a similar feature used on the iphone. Your input and answers will be greatly appreciated!!

You can set vibration and/or sound notification for both SMS or email.
Notification light can be set for sms and missed calls (not for email), however, you will barely see it, as discussed already.
Notification icons on new sms and missed calls will show on the home screen, and on the screen saver, which will show when you press the D-pad after the phone got locked.
When you place the email widget on the home screen, the number of unread emails will be displayed.
Wifi autoconnect is fine, unfortunately there seems to be no easy to use option to disable wifi entirely.

Does the email widget work when the phone is locked, can I check to see if I received a new email with out unlocking the phone? I am currently using the E72 and love it, what are the pros and cons of buying the E6 compared to the E72. Thanks for your insight!!!

No and no. For the pros and cons i suggest you look around this forum. Good hardware (with th exception of battery life) but with some terrible software ommissions, such as the email notifications. The notification light is terrible too (may as well not be there).

Wow, this was going to be my first Nokia purchase without waiting a year for things to get fixed/updated. I guess I will wait my usual one year period to decide if it is worth buying, I typically frequent forums to get user feedback on software and firmware updates. I like the form factor but I find it hard to buy something that does not have a working notification light and an email notification that is worse than its predecessors (the E71/72 work excellent, makes no sense to pay to go backwards). I can forgive the battery consumption since it is a high resolution touch but I do think the public was mislead on the battery life rating printed on the box. The E71 and 72 was not promised the same battery performance and both phones are using the battery as the E6. I guess I have to wait and see how Nokia will handle the notification light issue. I will give them six months, if no changes I will I will buy another E72 to replace my current one when it dies!! Thanks for the insight.

I feel the same - unfortunately I bought the E6 already, mainly because I was excited about the announced "1 month" battery lifetime, touchscreen and other features.
I would never ever have expected that there is basically no notification light - as the E72 worked so well in this regard. Therefore I didn't check before buying. Now I have to live with it - or give it away and say goodbye to Nokia forever. I don't think I will go back to my good old E72, as the email client works MUCH better on Anna. Still considering what to do...

There's time yet.
It's not unusual for a telephone to be released with a few missed bugs and other usability issues. Even if some of them are frighteningly obvious on the E6.
The first major firmware update is something to be eagerly awaited.

From your personal usage of both the E72 and the E6 can you share the pros and the cons of the switching to the E6, other than the obvious notification light and battery drain. You mentioned the email client is better can you build on that. Has the basic calendar changed if so what, things along that nature. Thanks!!

Don't even think about buying E6. Its the worst Nokia phone I have ever used although I used to be a Nokia fan and thought I would never leave this brand. Now I am thinking otherwise.

My Pleasure. A very personal comparision, potentially incomplete, and focussing on the differences:
- looks (for those who care): the E72 looked slimmer (although it isn't really), sexier than the E6 (very personal asessment).
- build: the E6 feels more stable and even better built than the E72.
- screen: of course much better on the E6, those websites that I could barely read on the E72 are now no problem.
- keyboard: less cramped and a little "softer" on the E6. I like it a little bit better, although the E72 also had a very good one.
- Anna: obviously a much more up to date OS, cleaner, fewer "cascaded" menu levels, a little bit more intuitive and logical to handle. I like it, and think its fun to use. Some details:
- calendar: for me this is the biggest improvement over Symbian^3 - finally the great month calendar display with appointments showing next to the month view ist back! I would consider it to be back at a level comparable to the E72 now, so no major improvement over v.5 but a huge improvement over ^3.
- email client: I'm using gmail synch (mail for exchange) for email, contacts and calendar. This NEVER worked flawlessly on the E72: emails very often got screwed up, I guess due to weak support of the gmail threaded structure. Sometimes emails didn't fully download to the phone, no matter what I tried. Sometimes they didn't get displayed properly. Calendar and contacts synch worked better with the very last E72 OS update, however, some updates that I made on either the PC or the E72 didn't get synched or it took a very long time and I had to initiate manual synch. These problems are completely gone on the E6/Anna, so far I didn't run into any problems, it works fast and reliably.
- touchscreen: now that I'm used to it I don't want to miss it ever again. A few days ago I re-activated my E72 to look for something, and always found myself trying to touch an icon on its screen. A really great enhancement.
- vibration/ringer volume: this was really a bit stronger/louder on the E72.
- shortcut HW keys: they were a bit more convenient to operate on the E72, as they were put onto one panel together wich call/end keys on the E6, so a bit more cramped, and as they are located very close to the touchscreen, it's a little harder to hit the right one and a little easier to hit the touchscreen. Not a big problem though, also a matter of getting used to.
- browser: a disaster on the E72, usable on the E6. I still prefer Opera. Its a little faster (not much), and more user friendly.
- reception & sound quality: the E6 beats the E72 (although the E72 wasn't bad either). No reception problems at all, and speaker/sound quality when making calls on the E6 is the best I ever had on any phone. Awesome.
There are still a few glitchesin the E6 OS, but no major ones in my opinion, and can be fixed in SW updates, I hope.
All in all, the E6 would represent a major step forward, and would really be pleasure and fun to use, if there weren't those silly notification light and battery issues, which are real problems for me. I already missed a couple of important emails (better: I saw them too late), and I have to recharge my battery at least once per day, sometimes twice. Without these nasty issues, I would consider the E6 the best phone of its kind in the world.
Hope that hepls, pls feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks for the feedback, now this is very useful compared to "don't buy the phone it sucks" simply because of one change or something is missing. I personally like the optical mouse on the E72 and probable the only E72 owner who uses it, I wish the E6 would have had that feature but I know the touchscreen is there in place of the optical mouse. From your personal usage how responsive is the touchscreen, does it lag, or get hung up, if so how often because that would be really disappointing to have a touchscreen that does not fully function. I had a chance to play with the C3 touch and type and it was innovative but the screen did lag and was not responsive from time to time. I also have another question about the camera, I have seen some great pictures posted on the web by reviewers of the phone but the fixed focus is my biggest concern. On the E72 I was able to take pictures of personal notes written on a 3x5 index card, with the fixed focus it seems I will definitely lose that ability since close-up pictures come out not legible, please give your input. Also have you tried the "Sleeping Screen" as a message indicator in place of the notification light. The final inquiry, the entertainment factor, I noticed you can now download "Angry Birds" for the handset, have you and is it smooth like most other handset, Iphone/Android. I hate the fact that the convert is no longer in the menu and as a business device I would have always thought a stopwatch/timer was a business utility!!

You are welcome:
- touchscreen: generally very responsive, although it would be wrong to say that there is no lag at all. But it happens very rarely, and it is mainly an optical issue, and doesn't at all constrain from getting a job done. I never experienced any hangups related to the screen. It really works fine, all I want to say is that there are phones out there whose screens work a little bit more "fluent".
- one of the other Anna issues that I mentioned briefly is a 10 to 20 seconds freeze that I always encountered after having made a phone call by selecting a number from the phonebook via smart dial. Once I hang up, the phone almost always freezes up to ~20 seconds. This is not the case when I dial a number directly, or e.g. from the shortcuts widget.
- if you want or have to take pictures of documents, then the E6 is not right for you. I tried it and they get blurred. The upside of this fixed focus system ist that the camera is very fast in social situations, as there is no lag due to focussing. I prefer that over taking pictures of documents, but as always that depends on personal preferences.
- yes I tried Sleeping Screen, and unfortunately it does not (yet?) work on the E6. It just shows for one second before the screen turns black. If they make it work for the E6, it might be a quite useful alternative to notification light.
- sorry I have not yet downloaded angry birds, as I thought it is not supported yet.
It will take a while before I can try, as I just decided to bring the phone to Nokia service to look at the ridiculous battery lifetime. The guy said that 1 day is not enough, and there might well be a weak component that drains the battery too quickly. I also complained about the notification light issue and told him I want a fix. Looking forward to their feedback, and will of course share with the community.

Thanks for your in depth synopsis of the E6, the phone has potential but I need to wait and see the first firmware update has to offer. If the firmware update does not address the notifications (lack of notifications, emails in particular) in some form or fashion then I will have to pass on the phone or wait for the price to drop drastically. I am also a big sports tracker user and Isilo user but neither are offered for this handset which is a deal breaker, I really heavily on the two applications.
