I signaled this issue already some time ago, but I did not get any useful answer from NOKIA.
The Phone created it's own "sent" folder which does not sync with the sent folder of the email on the server. The proper email sent folder (the one used normally by the email client) will appear among the other email folders but it does not collect sent emails from the device. There is no trace of emails sent out from the device on the email client, in other words the sent folder of the E6 is only on the phone and does not sync anywhere.
If my explanation is not clear I can send you a picture.
Hope to have a constructive reply from Nokia this time.

It is interesting that we users are trying to analyze the issues we have with our phones, consider we could be on the wrong side.
On the other hand the customer care (July2011) was only able to tell me that:
-Never heard of such an issue
-They never came across my email domain, my company is very small (??!!) so this is why it does not work. Hmmm...yes in fact my small company is hosted on one of the largest US hosting provider, nothing sub-standard.
-Basically the only way I have to properly use the email is to do so thru an OVI email account, so my ticket was closed. (!??)
Good to hear I am not the only one expecting a business phone should work flawlessly when sending emails...

Nokia Customer Care advised me to format the phone, unfortunately this did not improve the Sent folder issue. After further feedback I was told that this issue is due to a sync error between my email server (JUSTHOST.com) ??! And the E6. Nothing can be done, so they say.

hi
2 possibilities.
1. the settings are POP3 and not IMAP. if the fone does not understand server language, it will take POP3 settings automatically and user has no way to know it without going to settings.
2. even if it is IMAP, the OS does create a separate sent folder but the emails will be synced with server, no worries.
On the other hand, if you go through nokia messaging, no worries there, only those folders you select from the OS will be synced.
let me know.

IMAP and sent folder are a problem for many, Try this one out, it works anyway.
I just tried that out on an E6.

"Ok, to get Invitation took perhaps 5-10 minutes. After installing my IMAP account with no exchange server the installation went really fine. To send mail through Mobile Documents is very quick and easy. And the mail sent are put on the sent folder on the ÍMAP sever as well, just as it should be. The inbox on the phone is also nice and clean. There is only one big issue for users of smaller screens such as for users of E6. There are 3 button to the right when opening a mail in the inbox. These 3 bottons make this application not useful for E6:users as it take to much of the visual space and reading the whole mail almost impossible. Also of course of the high resolution of E6:s screen. It would be nice if theses 3 buttons, delete, reply and sned further (I think it was) could be hidden as they makes the application only very useful for bigger screen phones.
For you that have problem with Nokias embeddded imap mail, get this one. ... It is the fastest on planet earth. I mean it. And it is clean, clean as all email clients should be.
Very good indeed this one is."
My comments from Nokia Betalabs on Mobile Documents

Thanks Ztuka,
thanks for tyour post. As I understand Mobile Documents is an app & server-based service that manges the IMAP folder. My emails have to transit on the thirt party server. I'am right?
Meanwhile I got a further update from Nokia regarding this issue. Quite shocking!
basically, if you want to have your sent folder syncronized you can:
-use Microsoft Exchange...I appreciate the vivid sense of humor
-use a proprietary email managing system, (such as Gmail or) Nokia Messaging. Actually there was a reason why I did not buy a BB.
-A REGULAR IMAP WILL NOT SYNC with the sent box! Fantastic!!!
