Hello,

Being a first time user of Nokia (E52) and still learning, I find the default contact search operation rather annoying. Say I want to search contact based on last name and I type the 1st character.  The phone display ALL contacts that have that character.  Imagine if I enter 'o', there's a whole of contacts showing up but the last name starting with 'o' is way down at the bottom.  Is there a setting for me to search solely based on alphabetical order sorting?  Thanks in advance.

say you are looking for owen start typing in the search box and it will slowly eliminate contacts as it goes through the letters and will give you the closes matches to what you are looking for usually first two or three letters

Thank you radical24.  That's what I am doing now, was hoping there's a setting that let's me search alphabetically.

Also, the search entry method on my E52 is showing 'Abc'.  I pressed the # sign and the 'Abc' didn't change to predictive entry or anything else.  I take it as there's no predictive entry in contact searching?

hmm i am not sure if there is or not. i don't use predictive text in general because i type in too many languages and it gets to be a pain, but i have tried to play with contacts and search on my phone n97 and i am not able to change it. sorry mate, perhaps there is a way i just don't know about it.

I agre with author of the topick. not completely, but siemens PC-like stile was better. 

Add to this, while having this "intelectual search" feature the phone still incapable to search by a part of phone number  I realy miss this feature of Siemens. Sometimes looking on a paper note with incomplete number I need to remember who that was... 

And a bug with caller's name display. I remember a part of a number displayed on the screen (bug prevents display of callers name), but I cant find it in contacts...

You can't activate predictive text when searching for contacts and in a number of other features. It's used mainly for messages.

Even if you set the phone to show contacts as First name Last name

The person whose last name begins with that letter will be at the bottom. The search has 1st name as priority for the letter you type in.

Hale the search by patr of phone number woulb be a great feature.

Hi no1_slumko, on my e52 the search result list out names in this order:

1. all names having the matching character, but it's not the 1st matching character of either last name or first name.

2. name with 1st character matching the character I type.

Actually not quite... I am getting confused now.  An observation about contact search, the phone seems to treat contacts in sim differently from contacts in phone memory. THe order I mentioned above seems to apply for sim memory but not phone memory.... ok let me find out how to move all contacts to phone memory.

I still like the alphabetical order search which brings me to the last name with 1st  matching character.  Then I can scroll back up or down to get quickly to my intended contact.  I have a few contacts towards the end of 'o', so I just used to type in 'p' and scroll back.  E52 does not allow this.  I'll have to figure out some other ways with the e52.

There is a way to activate the predictive search for contacts and is done by entering contacts ->

Options >

Activate predict. search.

It's in the manual.

But I wont to ask another question. In the previous model E51 (which I'm using for over year and a half) the groups are in a separate tab in the contacts pane. This way it is very easy to find specific group, and it's contacts. In the E52, when you make a group it puts it in the contacts, it just floats as a contact, some ware in the hole bunch of hundreds. This makes it very dificult for accessing groups, because i have to search them, rather just scroll down, and I have to rememmber their names. In the E51 I have about 20-25 maybe more different groups. Come one. Is there a way to add this tab in the pane. The E51 belonged to another person, it is a company phone, so i don't know if the other person has done somthing to add this tab, but it's there.

Another thing In the Themse there is a Standby wich has three option, one of wich is Talking time. In this option, when I access the contacts from call features they are (the contacts) separeted in tabs by letters smth like abc|def|ghi|...., The thing is that I wont the same thig but with another tab "groups". Any Ideas... Please I need this very much to operate quickly

Which firmware version and E52 (not e52-1?) version is yours?  My manual does not have this under contact.  And the phone's Contact definitely does not have that option.

My Software version is 021.013 Date of version is 03-jul-2009, the model is E52-1.

If you are talking about the predictive search option it is in the manual that I downloaded from nokia for E52 (English version). And I have it in my menu options. If yours has an older version of the software, I belive that an update will do the job, if Nokia published it.
