The heading says it all. 

I just used my backup E52 (product code 0552352) to test upgrade from FW 22-019 to FW 31-012 and it's a complete disaster. 

After the upgrade, you cannot search in Contacts (the search box appears, but you can't type anything), and that's just the first bug I've discovered. You also lose "smart dial" from your home screen.

This is my worst ever experience with a Nokia upgrade, and I'm not a happy camper!

I did this and had no issues with the upgrade. It works better than before. I upgraded via Ovi Suite. Took a backup but did not have to restore it as the upgrade was done without erasing my stuff.

How did you do yours?

I upgraded using Nokia PC Suite.

OK, I'll try again using OVI Suite .....

I've Restored Factory Settings, rebooted a couple of times, reinstalled the new FW using Nokia PC Suite and OVI Suite, but nothing works. The Search function from within Contacts has totally disappeared with FW 31-012.

These FW upgrades are like a "one step forward, two steps backward" nightmare. I'm extremely frustrated.

I just don't understand how something as important and fundamental as a Search feature can get lost with an "upgrade". This is not like reassembling a car and forgetting to install the seat covers. It's more like forgetting to reinstall the gearbox.

I'm beginning to lose faith ......

I upgraded from within the nokia phone app (*#0000#). Was there already an update available for your region? Why did you update using PC suite?

Maybe you updated incorrectly over a region version for which no update was ready. I do not have the problems as described by you and I can advice everyone to update to the new firmware.

If you did everything right you should bring your phone to a service centre.

I got the same problem as u after sw update. I get some help from the web. this the bug from nokia update. In my contact list having Chinese name once I removed all Chinese name it work...

U may try to removed other word...

Hope can help and I still waiting nokia come with new update can solve this problem.

Thanks. I only have two entries in Chinese, so it was easy to change them back to English, however the Search feature in Contacts still won't work.

I guess I'll just have to wait for another upgrade, but it's very frustrating when an upgrade fixes one set of problems but introduces new problems.

Upgraded to 31.012 today and for some reason the time screensaver thingy doesn't work anymore. The one that show the time and date when I press a key when the keypad is locked. Anyone have any clue why and what I can do to make it work again?

I've reported similar issue with Contact search entry issue after migrating to the new firmware.  I did the upgrade under Ovi Suite's software update push.

I've tried several things .  Reboot/re-install fw all didn't help.  Wrote to Nokia and asked me to get help from Nokia Care... which asked me to leave the phone for debug (heck no unless Nokia Care center lend me a loaner phone, like car service).  

An experiment: I wiped away the contacts and enter several new contacts (Aa, Bb) for testing purpose.  Still can't search on the newly entered Contacts also.  

But if I go thru the 'Search' in the home screen, it works.  But that involves several more steps... practically means the Contact hot button is not useful.

i m having the same problem for my E52 , this phone given me lots of problem since the 1st day till now , so sad abt the new E series phone .......................

There is now a newer update (33-003) but the Contact search problem still remains.

I'm really losing my faith in Nokia. The E52 is such a great handset, but the updates deteriorate the user experience instead of enhancing it.
