E51 contacts transfer problem

Just bought a new BMW 3 series and my contacts in the phone(in SIM and phone memory) will not transfer into car memory - very frustrating ! The phone is connected and it says it is trying but I have left it for ages and no joy ! Any suggestions ?

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

Hi clinkers

Firstly go to this site and download: http://europe.nokia.com/A4143881

Nokia 810 Contact Download Application for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices Nokia_810_Contacts_Download_S60_3rd.sis
103.80 KB | English

This contact download application enables you to download the contacts from the following Nokia phones to your Nokia 810 Car Phone via Bluetooth technology: Nokia E50, E60, E61, E61i, E62, E70, E90 Communicator, N71, N73, N77, N75, N76, N80, N91, N91 8GB, N92, N93, N95, 3250, 5500 Sport, 5700 XpressMusic, and 6290.

Then have a look at post by boders here:

/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=18350#M18350

Please delete all existing pairings on both devices prior to initiating from within "Contacts downloads" running on phone.

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

I have a BMW 5-series and another forum I subscribe to has many posts covering this subject ...

I've successfully paired all of my previous phones (see signature) with my 5-series bluetooth kit, but the more recent ones don't automatically transfer the contacts to the car (i.e. E50, E61i and E71 do not transfer contacts automatically). Some people have tried the Nokia app mentioned above ... it works for some but not for others (doesn't work for me).

However, I have found a way around this that does help me somewhat ... I can send business cards of my contacts to my bluetooth car-kit ... just choose to send business card of contact from my phone via bluetooth and choose the BMW's bluetooth car-kit as the recipient (you may have to have the car "discoverable" the first time you try, but the bluetooth id should then be cached in your phone from then onwards).

Once you've sent the business card(s) to the car, simply turn the car off, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on ... when I do this the contacts then appear in my A-Z phone list :smileyhappy:

With the E50 and E61i I could send multiple business cards at once, but with the E71 I could only send 1 at a time, so I just sent the more important ones .... I presume your E51 may be similar to my E71 in this respect.

Hope this helps ... not perfect, but better than nothing (in my opinion).
My previous phones:
6310i --> SE K750i --> E50 --> E61i --> E71
... much prefer the Nokia phones, especially the E71 :smileyhappy:

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

I tried this.Unfortunately it refuses to connect with the car.

Now spent most of my weekend fruitlessly trying various options. Doesn't leave me thinking much of Nokia !! I spent about £2k on the media package so I could have phone connectivity. Think I might try an iphone and chuck my new E51 in the bin !

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

E51 keyboard packed up when on holiday in Portugal. Replaced it with a Nokia 6500 Classic (at o2's suggestion) and paired and downloaded contacts in a couple of minutes. Come on Nokia - you could have saved me a lot of grief !!

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

I I finally figured this out, I have a Nokia E51 and a 2005 BMW X5. The phone paired ok with the car and I can receive and make calls via the car. The problem was that I couldn't transfer the contacts from my phone to the car.

I reset the pairing on the car as per the car handbook, the car responds showing a message the it is ready for bluetooth paring. I went to the contacts on my phone, selected a contact and sent it as a business card via bluetooth. The phone responded with the message that it was successfully sent. I then marked all contacts and sent them as business cards via bluetooth. The phone responded with the message that it was successfully sent.

Then I paired the phone to the car.

All the contacts were in the car.

Re: E51 contacts transfer problem

Your system worked.Thank you.

Telstra , who supplied the E51 ,were useless and could give no help.

Managed to transfer all contacts, but needed to do it in stages.
