E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

Here are my minimal expectations if someday an update of E-Series calendar is available (via firmware update, I hope): --- 1. Category for Meeting and ToDo/Task. --- 2. Filter based on Category/ies. --- 3. In ToDo view, Items can be sorted alphabetically (by date/time, then alphabetically). --- 4. In Agenda View, there is an option to *exclude* ToDo. --- 5. There is a single button for setting Complete/Incomplete of ToDo. --- 6. There is an option to turn off the blinking screen light; just turn it on based on user's setting of brightness without blinking. --- 7. Some users dislike the alarm sound which plays for 1 minute. They need option to play alarm once, twice, etc. NB: If I must pay for other calendars, my expectations will be higher. For the 3 calendars I have tried, I think, their features do not match with the money I must spend. When I use Palm OS, I had DateBk6 from PimlicoSoftware. I believe the ex-users of DateBk6 understand why I am disappointed by E-Series current Calendar. I hope E-Series Calendar programmers read this message and consider the above expectations. Thank you.

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

I like to add a point to the wishlist, cause I really don't understand, why the feature isn't already implemented: birthdays of my contacts should be visible in calendar by default.

E72-1 not branded, as it seems not supported by Nokia Germany

Well said, DLDLDL !!!

Exactly what my sentiments were when I posted about a week ago ... I'm changing over (I do not want to say 'upgrading' becus its really a 'downgrade' from so many points) from a Parl Treo smart phone. That device, although released way back in 2003, had many features that lets the user customise it on the fly ... for example, each time the alarm rings, the user has an option to 'snooze' for various different periods, so up to me if I want to snooze for 1 minute, 5 mins, 30 mins, 5 hours or 37 mins! FLEXIBILITY !

When I first posted last week, I had some other people here (maybe they work for Nokia ;-) asking what other device could do that, some were pretty happy with the E72's features and infact wndered why anyone would want such features. I suppose, its a bit like the movie "Gods Must Be Crazy" .. the African tribes are pretty satisfied with what they have ... so if you've never tried something better, then the E72 is indeed impressive.

Similarly, the only reason I'm taking time to post here is with the hope Nokia programmers are listening and would get some ideaas on how to improve their gadgets. Apart from that, Nokia has taken my money, nothing much else can be done, right?

There ought to be laws out there on the use of the term 'smartphone'

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

Thanks for the responds, I thought I was the only user who expect more from the Calendar. I do understand that Nokia programmers keep on developing and maintaining applications, but it I feel rather upset to think, perhaps, E-Series Calendar is not one of their priorities. PIM aspects (Calendar, ToDo, Note, Address) are the main reasons for me to choose a smart phone. I have sent my first message to Nokia via the "Contact Us" link and I hope the R&D department read this message-thread too. Another 'small' thing, which is usually a stopper to me, is the absence of option for selecting date (usually called Date Picker) in the Date field editing. You edit a Calendar item and reach the Date field, then you realize you do not know the date of next-week Friday. You must exit the editing mode to see the date via, usually, Month view. Amazingly, the S40 calendar (e.g. my 3110classic) has that Date picker via option menu. In this case, One thumb up for the programmers of S40 calendar. Thank you and sorry for the long complaint :smileyhappy: Happy Calendaring. .

Yes, the "age" is another "even S40 can do it" feature.

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

I'll add my 'very much agree with all the above'. I expected the calendar to be all singing and dancing on a business or top end mobile but its pretty rubbish. Its my only complaint really.

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

Another thing, I think, which stumbles its singing and dancing with me is the following: We are familiar with the scroll bar and its car, right ? It is a long bar which is usually at the right side of a page. The car is the smaller bar in the scroll bar whose size is adjusted based on how many pages exist. However, it seems to me, the scroll bar *always* appears though there is only *one* page exists. This very often cheats me, since I think there is another page (or 1 line) I should see. This issue appears in many (or all ??) build-in applications; calendar agenda view, ToDo view, calendar detail view, a single message, Note application, etc. Does Symbian OS have no method to hide the scroll bar if there is only one page to display? It is a small user interface aspect, but it is meaningful. Halo, Nokia programmers :smileyhappy: . Thank you.

Totally agree to Your wishes about the calendar!

And I'm definitely on the same line as Xbin:

A business smartphones should without a question have these functions.

When You buy a advanced phone as theese You can't test every single feature. And frankly theese are features that wouldn't even cross my mind to test... ...until now.

As a matter of fact they should have even more integration with Outlook/Exchange..

Categories in calendar yes, but also take advantage of the saveas name and company when performing quick searches.

I know, I'm nagging about this in different posts, but it's hard to understand why Nokia haven't identified them as a smart-phone-must-have-feature...

My previous phone was a Windows Mobile where calendar and contacts were easier to use and much more integrated into Outlook/Exchange.

On the other hand it was very close to completely useless as a phone.... :smileytongue:

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

On the site: "http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/news" there is a news about: "Nokia E63 software version 410.21.010 released". To any E63 user who has installed this firmware: 1. What improvement do you see ? 2. Is there any improvement with the Calendar ? Thank you.

I have installed this firmware.

1) I saw zero improvement. I would rather have left it on the original firmware.

2) There is no improvement in the Calendar.

Interesting thread with many "I can't believe it doesn't have this" features that my dumbphones have had. I hope it gets someone's attention that can actually change something but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: E-Series Calendar - My Expectations

Also coming from the Palm world (last one Centro) and having used E72 for a few weeks I agree with the list and there are also few things I miss as well  :

- ToDo's without a date (so it is not shown in calendar or the main screen)
- Recurring ToDo's i.e.. the task is recreated automatically again when marked as complete

- Showing more than just the next calendar entry in the main screen
I'm sure more will come into mind .....
