DO NOT BUY E72

There are just too many problems with this phone.

If you are using it as a simple phone, then yes. But then, why buy a Enterprise phone when you can other cheap phones with keyboard for texting and gmail/hotmail/yahoo mail access?

  1. Once you install Messaging for Exchange, and your Exchange is 2003, it will let you read part of the email and not the rest. The Nokia Support told me it's Exchange, but my friend Iphone can see and read everything.
  2. When you forward or reply an email, you can't edit the original text.
  3. After few days of using, the application will hang.
  4. When you setup Chat from the phone, Messaging for Exchange will start to go crazy too

For the rest of the problems, I think you can do a quick search in this forum. And I have them all too but just too lazy to retype.

There are 2 solutions for now if you have purchased the phone.

Solution #1is to do a total rest and install everything back again. I have done at least 8 times for about 3 weeks. There is no sign on when the firmware upgrade will be. I have even mailed to olli-pekka.kallasvuo at Nokia but he must be very busy, he didn't reply my mail.

Solution #2 : I am dumping this phone for good and switch to Iphone and just get a cheap black and white US$20 Nokia/Samsung/LG phone for spare to leave it the glove compartment in case the Iphone has a flat battery.

If you are thinking of buying and don't believe all the nay sayers, good luck!

Re: DO NOT BUY E72

I must agree. I've had the E72 for a few days now and it is a BIG disappointment (email set up problems, network connection problems...) the shop I got it from are very competent and even they now admit there seem to be problems with this unit - I have been loyal to Nokia for 14 years and the one thing I have learned is that while their telephone technology and hard ware is very good, their software has consistently been bad. Should have got a Blackberry !

Do E72 has push mail for Microsoft exchange? I know there is Nokia messaging service which allow you to have push email feature for consumer emails like (gmail, hotmail etc) but does E72 has push mail for corporate accounts??

Re: DO NOT BUY E72

The immature E-mail client and the on-going Bluetooth problems on my E72 made me get rid of it and go back to my old E90.

Can you believe that the old Communicators (9500, 9300i) were able to display directly and correctly HTML E-mail messages, so many years ago ?!? No E-series is able to do this. You have to open the Attachment sepparately in browser, and even so the embedded pictures cannot be seen inside the E-mail. That's not business E-mail client.....

Re: DO NOT BUY E72

I can understand your frustrations with E72. I have recently bought an E52 and I experienced very similar issues with bluetooth and html email. This makes me think there is a problem with the software, since both phones share the same software. On the other hand, both BlackBerries and iPhones are capable of displaying html email now.

Re: DO NOT BUY E72

Let's also make a positive comment about the E72. After experiencing some troubles with the bluetooth on my E52, I returned to my old BlackBerry 8900. Strangely enough, the much praised BB email has let me down this time, after more than 2 years of reliable service. I was away two weeks in the US and, despite activating all the BB roaming stuff, not a single email has reached my device without connecting to Wi-Fi. I double checked all the settings, and everything was OK, but email was not coming through. I was angry enough to get rid of my BB device and service and buy a brand new Nokia E72 (the topaz brown edition, which I think is beautiful). I updated the firmware OTA to 22.007 and I must say I have not experienced any problems with it until now, not even the bluetooth issues I have previously experienced with the E52. So far, so good ...
