Hi there!!!
Looked through the forum and tried to find smthng about personal customization of Nokia E6-00 phones but haven't managed to find where the users share info abou their own home screens - how they look, what shortcuts they use mostly and so on...
So I decided to share with you about my E6's home screens customizations and ask everyone to do the same, hoping you have good advises and ideas.
After some times of experiments finally I have only 4 Home screens which I devided into these categories: Connectivity, Business, Media and My Apps. (Sorry, I don't have any pics because my cameras batts died and I couldn't make any).
Connectivity
This home screen has three widgets: WLAN and 2 shortcuts widgets. First shortcut has icons: Bluetooth, JoikuSpot (as a Hot Spot), Default Settings Icon (for fast access to Connection manager) and Default File Manager (for easy file share and connectivity to remote drives).
Business
This Home screen is my favourite. I got here these widgets: e-mail (Yahoo! is my default), Shortcuts and Calendar. E-mail widget is very useful because you can easily see if you got any mail directly on the screen. At shortcuts I have Notes, Messaging, Social and Office. And the last Calendar widget is, I would say - a must - for those who use calendar a lot and needs a lot of "To-do" things which are nicely displayed on the screen.
Media
This is a "Fun Home screen" too. I got here 2 Shortcuts and the Search widget. At the first shortcut widget I got Youtube, Videos&TV, Radio and Voice recorder. The second one has Music, Videos, Photos and a Camera. The last Search widget is really usefull when you have a bigger miniSD card and many media files and you smthng to find or even browse for the info on the internet. Just a great tool.
My Apps
The final home screen where some shortcuts lead directly to the favorites apps or folders. But the first widget I got an App that shows the status of the phones RAM. Nice to know whether you're using the full phone's memory or not. And as I said before on the shortcuts I got some favorite apps but there's one that's realy fun and I use it a lot - Sports Tracker. Recommend for everyone.
So, there is information How my E6 looks like and what Home screens do I use.
Now I wait for you. Please share the info - it's really fun to know!
P.S. I promise to put some photos next time.

One home screen is sufficient for me

Opera Mobile
Messaging
Music player
Maps
Camera
Bluetooth
Calendar
Calculator
For applications and functions I use less frequently I'm happy to go into the main menu for them, which is arranged accordingly. In terms of time taken it's probably little different than flicking through four or five home screens

As promised, here are some pictures of my chosen Home screens!

Hi guys,
I got the following situation. When you first start up the Nokia E6, it has only 4 home screens.
From either one of these home screens, if you click on "Options" there's a small pop-up window that shows up. In there, there is the option to create the 5th home screen, which has a black wallpaper.
What should I do to make this 5th home screen to show up as the first one?
I mean, I would like the first screen to be this black one and all the others (that have coloured backgrounds) after it.
Also, there are no audio themes in the menu, like in the case of Nokia E72 ?
Thanks for your reply.

Hi there, I think I got what you need! The problem is that you can't switch between the Homescreens just like that! The only option is to "copy" the fourth screen's content onto fifth and then the third onto the fourth and so on and you'll get what you want! So as I said there is no possibility to switch betwwen Homescreens. From my experience, as I already use this phone for almost 9 months, there's no need of five homescreens, you will get "lost" between them! Today I use only 3 homescreens and I'm happy with that. Just for your interest I got: First: Mail widget, shortcuts to Messaging, Web (defaylt), Ovi store, Maps. Second: Music widget, shortcuts to Videos&TV, Pictures, Camera, Search Third: Shortcuts to Drive (Maps), Voice recorder, Notes, Calculator, File manager, Toshl wallet, Stopwatch and Nokia's Energy profiler. I hope it helps for ye!
Thanks a lot for your answer. I thought before of the solution you offered me, but I thought there might be a simpler way to do it. I'm guessing I won't use more than 3 homescreens, just as you're using now. ![]()
I saw the pictures you posted here back in 2011 and they look really good, I mean "really well organized".
As you are using the E6 fur quite a long time now, I would like to ask you another question here: is there a way to make the big clock (the screensaver) to remain permanently lit on the screen, after I lock the keys? A friend of mine has a Nokia C7 and it works for him, but in the case of my E6, that big clock disappears from the screen after a few seconds.
Once again, thank you for your message!

Hi, Good question! But the thing is that C7 works on the older firmware and our phone got Symbian Anna. So, Anna has some funny things that C7 doesn't have and vice versa and in this case E6 doesn't have "permanent clock screensaver". And it shouldn't actualy, because such things sinks down your bettery which is not practical. There are millions of apps that does that function. Trust me, now you want to try all funny things with your phone and you shoud go for it. But then you'll finaly find the real this phone's Mission - to be a Messager, Communicator!
Hello again and thank you very much for your messages.
The C7 has the same Anna, as my E6. Anyway, I think I don't need that clock that badly, after all.
And you are right: I want to try all the funny things on my phone now - I have just got it a couple of days ago .... you know the feeling. ![]()

Hi Albyzas,
I will "stress" you with yet another question now, since you are the guru of the E6 around here. ![]()
Is there any way to configure the soft keys of the E6?
I mean, I would like the right soft key not to be "Menu" anymore, but another function.
Is this possible ?
Thanks !
Vlad.

Hi,
thanx for the compliments! Soon you'll be teaching me when E6 gets Belle!
The answer is no, you can't do this! The only option to customize your keys is set for those four main keys around the navi-pad! It's very easy to find this option through Settings menu.
Probably you would like to assign the shortcut to, for example "Programs", but it is possible to do that on any homescreen. So, the thing is to always get fast access to Menu by pressing a touch-key or a keyboard key.
Hope that helps and ask whenever you need!

Hello again and thanks for your message !
I was mainly refering to the "Menu" soft-key (the right soft-key on the display). It seems odd to me to have both a dedicated key (a physical button) and a touch-screen-button to access the "Menu". Why having two keys with the same function? It's a waste of buttons, so to speak....
This is why I wanted to change the "Menu" soft-key (the one on the display) to something else (to "file manager" or any other function). But I guess I will have to stick to what I have...
There's another downgrade when comparing the E6 to E72 and E71 and maybe you have the solution for this problem. On Nokia E6 I can not (or I don't know how to) save the text messages on the memory card (not on the phone's internal memory). Do you know how I could do that?
If I go to "Menu -> Messaging -> Options -> Settings -> Other" there is no function in there (like it is in case of Nokia E71 and E72) to store the text messages on the memory card. Any solution to this issue ?
As for the breathing light / notification light, I have called today to Nokia Care in my country and they will replace my actual key mat.
I will post here picture of the new key mat once I have it replaced.
That would be all for now.
Take care !
PS: Have you seen that Belle at the corner of the street ? ![]()

Hi, Vlad,
I don't agree with you on that. Firstly, soft key is just "nice-to-have" and it's mostly dedicated to the Homesreen as an Options soft key. Seconly physical button has two functions: short-press in the Homescreen view gives you Menu window, short-press again gives you Homescreen again and so on. Then long-press shows up all open apps. So, this button is quite important. And what I said previous, all other shortcuts can be adjusted on the homescreens.
Messaging. I don't know the solution to that issue. I don't like sms, so never cared about this issue.
You want your E6 look like this: /t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/Nokia-E6-doesn-t-hav
It reminds me E72. I guess you realy liked that phone! I think I'll wait a lit longer and then think about changing the navi pad.
P.S. If you meet her again, please introduce me to Belle too! ![]()
