Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

The E51 recall is going on now. It's been withdrawn from the Vodafone UK shops with no published date when it will be available for sale again.

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

Why is everyone so jumpy here. Phones always have a limited shelf life with operators (product lifecyscles for consumer electronics getting increasingly shorter in general). Show me one operator that has all the currently available phones in their programme? Anyone, Buhler....

Why does everyone to the conclusion the retirement is due to problems with the phone? I yet have to find a single substanciated post from some established community member (and not those 1st and 2nd post newcomers - scaremongering around). Then I believe it.

Until then - try to get a life, its too short to get all hung up whether a particular phone gets recalled or not...

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

ok here is my situation:

bought the device four weeks ago unbranded.
discovered that in dual mode after the mobile "tryed" to connect to 3G (which is not available at my place) it "registeres back" into my local GSM-Cell again - indicating a connection - but from that moment i am no longer available for incoming calls "is not available try again later"
i get the sms of the missed call immediately.
call myself again from fixed phone: not available.. + sms
check diversion to register my phone on the cell: after that check i can call my mobile again.

so i switched from dual to gsm only. But still I have this issue after moving arround. Interesting thing: it happens not allways - it seems to be a sporadic issue.

also I set my phone to stay on manual selection of my provide (T-Mobile Germany) as I live near a boarder and one get the foreign provider as the active one all the time (which is to expensive to me)

Also I never noticed a reboot of my phone.
Version is 100.34.20 / 29.9.07 / RM244 / Nokia E51 (02.1)

this is a very bad situation, as i never can tell if i am available by the status indicators on the phone.. i need to check diversion to make sure i am reachable.. or try to call my self to see if it responds.. thats what a mobile phone is for, isnt it?

I hope this can be fixed soon by a software update..
I also send a notice to nokia via online form - but no answer yet

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

dbug that is a very detailed and interesting description, I like to know if you get some follow up to that problem, I use mine locked in either mode, I avoid dual mode. I have not seen this problem on 3G networks and GSM in the Philippines, I wonder if it is a network issue

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

I have removed the sim from my e51. This phone usually works really nice.
I have tried inserting the battery and browsing using wifi, it did.
I removed the battery before switching off the phone.
Now the phone lights up the light on the top left corner, looks like it is doing something, then switches off light, and starts all over again.
I tried everything and at the moment no sim/micro are installed.
Anybody knows ?

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

"My E51 reboots randomly by itself"

No problem - this is a build in function in all Symbian phones. This rebooting occurs in all E-serias phones and N and...

My E90 reboots itself when I'm typing messages, navigating in phone's menus etc.. so - this must be build in function.

They call it Professional Windows Simulator [PWS]. This might be one of the best coded function from Nokia. This works in any Symbian phone.

I have been facing the problem with my nokiae51 handset since last 1 month now.

The problem are mentioned below:-

1. The Handset get hanged & than reboots may be after 30 minutes.

2. While checking the emails or typing the message on the handset.

3. if you are changing the profile items on the handset.

Actions taken so far :-

1. Upgraded the firmware once by my self.

2. Upgraded the firmware twice by Nokia Care center.

3. Sent the handset by nokia care center to nokia (do not know where)

Result : - the problem still exists.

Also, spoken with nokia care (support), they asked me to submit the handset at nokia care center and the replacement may happen on the higher end authority.

My Country :India
State :Maharashtra
City :Mumbai

SERVICE : Vodafone

firware version : 400.34.011. dated 26-05-2009 RM-244 Nokia e51 (16)

Re: Critical problems in E51 -(phone reboots itself)

Rob,

You have asked about a one-ear hands-free device for Nokia E51. The model HS-40 is very good, this is a mono version of the standard HS-7 stereo set. I use both in turns. HS-40 came with my Wife's Nokia 3110c.

Btw, my E51 does not reboot. It had problems with connectiong to the net via GPRS and via Bluetooth, but when I start Nokia PC Suite prior to Nokia Internet Connector and the phone appears as connected to the Bluetooth interface then everything goes on OK (but I never stay connected for hours).
