I think the underlying problem is that Microsoft, when they set up the rules for Outlook, were thinking in corporate multinational terms.
I presume thatwhen an appointment is scheduled in Exchange, it is stored in a single time format, but displayed on each local users diary in their local time. This means that if someone on the West coast of the USA wants to schedule a phoner call with me (in the UK) he plans it for, say 0900, and it will appear in my diary as an appointment at 1700 If I then travel to France, it will appear as being at 1800. This makes sense.
However, it falls down when I want to make an appointment in local time not via Exchange- so if I'm going to the West Coast and want to meet my friend at a restaurant at 1900 local time, that will also be updated.
This isn't just a Nokia thing - I have exactly the same issue with my HP PDA which runs windows Mobile.

Not changing time zones does not solve the problem. You need to know the local time in order to catch your flight. Putting the flight time in the appointment headline helps. Then you have to change the appointment time to match it as you travel! If my filofax did this it would have gone back as not fit for purpose, as is the E71.
Outlook was designed so that people at their desks in different timezones could schedule teleconferences from their desks; and as such it works. For a personal timepiece that travels with you this is ridiculous behaviour. Altering appointment times as you change zones should be a special feature enabled for certain appointments only when selected.
Grrr!

Made a new technical issue and received the best answer so far;
"It is not meant that this feature should work in any other way as it is doing today"!!!!
Aparently no one from Nokia is reading these forums, it is a totally waste of time so I will go for HTC now and let the music lovers stay with Nokia toys.
Bye bye Nokia

I wonder if this is a cultural problem: maybe the Finns are all so international that they all work to some fundamental international time from which all other times derive, including their own local time, whereas the rest of us are still stuck in thinking in our own local times?
This feature (or lack of it) really is deeply irritating and counter to common sense.
Come on Nokia!

All I want from Nokia is the option to change or keep the times for my appointments when my N95 (and other models featuring the outlook calendar) detect a new time zone. Nokia should not assume I want the times adapted to the local time zone, I want to make that choice myself. Assumptions are a Microsoft thing, Nokia should not adopt that.
I like the Nokia phones and the features, this is just a big annoyance but good to know I'm not alone out there.

Made today another support issue in vain to Nokia and received the same promising answer that really shows that Nokia does not care of professional users, nor that they will.
Answer is: "There will not be any new firmware that will repair this "problem" as it is working exactly as it is suppose to"
My proposal is that everyone experiencing the same problem, issue a support issue to Nokia, hopefully they will listen if there are many similar support issues.

Hoping someone can help me please? I have no trouble sync my calendar to my Nokia E71 but recently went interstate where the time zone was one hour behind our time. I adjusted the time zone and when returning home re-adjusted the time zone back. Since then the calendar appointments on the home page show the correct times, when you actually enter the calendar the appointment time is advanced 1hr, but the alarm for that appointment still goes off at the proper time. eg Appointment in Outlook for 9am, home page on E71 shows 9am, alarm for appointment sounds at 8.45am (correct time), but when you open calendar on the E71 the appointment is shown as 10am!!!!!!!!!!! I can't understand why only the calender shows a different time yet every other time is correct for the appointment. Help!!!!!!! Kind regards Gavin

For the last time I have contacted NOKIA support and received the same answer.
"It's working as the development team has decided and there will be no changes in the software".
This means that NOKIA still will continue to produce toys and music gadgets.
Sad to say that I have to leave NOKIA but I am dependent of my appointment times and traveling to different time zones.
HTC or Apple, here I come.
