Bluetooth e51 problem

When i connect to gprs (2g) on PC via bluetooth using e51.the connection hangs after a few hours.on Windows XP I remain "connected" but i an unable to open any sites.

On Vista there is a symbol for internet which has 2 computers and a globe.in this case the globe disappears after few hours indicating that while i an connected to a network the internet is not accessible.

This problem occur sometimes within 15 minutes and sometimes after 3 hours.

I have tried on desktop (XP) and 2 laptops(both vista one Sony and other HP) with same results.

IF SOMEBODY ELSE HAS PROBLEM PLEASE MENTION IT HERE.

IF SOMEBODY GOT THE PROBLEM CORRECTED IN WARRANTY PLEASE TELL IT.

HE SOMEBODY TALKED TO NOKIA ABOUT THIS AND GOT A REPLY PLEASE TELL IT HERE.

IF SOMEBODY FEELS HIS PHONE HAS NO SUCH PROBLEM TELL IT BUT PLEASE TEST IT ON REALLY LONG GPRS SESSIONS LIKE 8 -9 HOURS FOR 3-4 TIMES FIRST.

For 6120c too many have reported this problem has anybody of them got it corrected.

It seems i am the only one on earth who uses gprs for internet.

If anyone knows anything then helpout guys.help me and anybody else with the problem to decide weather to go for nokia care(and lose the phone for a month) or wait for firmware.

I have firmware 100.34.20

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

dude, this happens with me as well. i am not sure but it could be an operator service issue. i mean, inactive connections might have a time out.

and this happens not only with gprs, but wifi as well.

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

thanks

i think there is some confusion.

I am talking about gprs via bluetooth.when i use data cable this problem does not occur.(though after 3 or 4 hours the phone reboots without asking password).

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

dear abhishek
buddy bluetooth works on radio frequency basics, so it is quite natural to have disruption if connectivity. Another is XP is not the perfect OS rather perfect OS does not exist, so the bugs in OS can terminate the link. It is also possible that bluetooth is OTA (over the air) connection so due to security policy of OS might get violated and it can be disconnected.

Keep in mind that time lag is irrespective of it. it can happen in few sec to few hrs.

Also when u connect through OTA ur mobile OS can also terminate connection or can reject to tranfer packet data because CPU usage of mobile and power consumption

for else reply

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

dear amit i never had problems with Nokia n73 and 6300.
I used to stay connected overnight.

On E51 BT disconnects in 5min to 3hours.This always happens. So either the phone needs repairs or the Software is bugged. In case 2nd option is true this will occur on all phones(e51s).Thats why i am askig and imploring all E51 users to tell weather BT is working for longer durations or not.

In 1st case it needs repairs.

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

Actually E51 is a premium catagory mobile and mfgd 4 d pplz who cant afford E90 (u can check by putting them side by side) so there can be chances of some lag of processing. But if the problem persists vigorously i will ask to exchange the mobile because nokia never replaces the mobile they just refurnished or repair.

By my best knowledge its a usual problem, the example u gave of N73 its a very sturdy mobile u can expect a lot by that also E51 is a enterprise edition mobile so its not expected while designing tht it will have a bt conn for few hrs but

v v imp is u checked it with bt headphone so u will come to know the defects of it

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

abhisek243 I would like to elaborate further about remarks I have made to you over the last few weeks- and amit_mc your post has what I consider great points about OS, packet data and radio frequency so thanks for your contribution that is useful information to me however I would like to say I simply don't like E90 whether I could afford it or not I would not assume people buy E51 because they could not afford E90, that is assuming anyone who buys E51 can't afford E90 is not believable- these 2 have much different profiles among other differences to numerous to mention here.
abhisek depends on where I am but I may use GPRS for periods of a month or more for example if I am in Thailand I will use GPRS almost exclusively (if wi-fi not available, no 3G here) When I first purchased my E51 I was able to connect via bluetooth to GPRS internet for about a week then after that I could no longer connect at all (didn't matter 3G or GPRS and as your experience via USB cable no problems at all) Never resolved that and don't know why. As you pointed out N73 did not have such an issue and connected and maintained connection reliably and to this day I still use N73 with either 3G or GPRS. So to your May 3 post my reply is this is a software issue of v 100 because with v 150 this problem has not occurred

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

thanks
Amit and likeitlikethat

My initial plan was as simple as waiting for first firmware and then if problems continue then go to nokia care.

But it has been more than 5 months.no firmware for generic mobile.

Hello abhisek243

This is my first post. I've read lots of discussion about nokia E51 in some other forums.

Well, I live in Spain and I have bought a unbranded Nokia E51 25 days ago. I'm quite happy with the phone (I've changed my old HTC p3600 for the E51 because the needness of having keys), but honestly I have to say that I'm having the same bluetooth problems than you.

It is terrible because I use the phone like a bluetooth modem with my laptop and ALWAYS the connection freezs. This issue never happened with the HTC P3600.

Now I'm considering 1 options :

1- Forget the bluetooth connection until a firmware update and start using USB connection (I haven't tryed it yet, but reading your posts, I assume that the connection never hangs in that way, does it? (Unless the phone restarts))

Regards

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

Same issue with my E51, after about 15 minutes, the connection with internet hangs e the bluetooth connection too.
The only solution is make a phone reboot.

I use the phone with a laptop (WinXP) for work with my office in VPN.

If someone have any idea for this problem, please write here, thanks.

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

updated to firmware 200 and problem still persists for me.

my father,s N82 too has the problem(firmware 20)

So throw s60 in dust bin and use s40 ...atleast they do what they are meant to. N82 is for photographers and e51 is for Voip.

I am using 6300.bye bye s60.

(S60 3rd platform has got hacked .so Nokia guys will probably be busy setting that right. The E51's new firmware set that right to a extent by refusing to install apps necessary for hacking to a extent. The phones bluetooth problem still persists. So you can see what gets priority. So dont expect that any of our REAL problems will get solved.)

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

btw after the new fw was relesed, in 1-2 days there was a new hack available which bypassed the previously program and everything worked just so fine, that before so even this attempt was in vain.
Nokia, wake up! we want everything working properly.. and Flash Lite 3. there's nobody who buys Nseries because of FL3, FL3 would be mostly a business-feauture, and E51 is an Eseries-business-smartphone so it would really deserve it. is that a so great request? :smileyhappy:

Re: Bluetooth e51 problem

I confirm, the problem exists for me too. I have fw version 100.34.20. OS Ubuntu Linux 8.04., connected via rfcomm and pppd. The BT connection freezes after ca 3 hours (last result 177 mins). BTS connection displayed on the phone is 3G/3,5G. After connection freeze, the BT icon on the phone remains bracketed (the phone thinks the connection is alive). The BT device I use is laptop builtin with USB ID 0a12:0001.

What helps:
- turning BT off and on (though sometimes phone hardly hangs)
- restarting the phone
- removing the battery (in case of hard hang)

This problem do not occur when the phone is connected via USB cable.

Because the test time is fairly long, Im now in a long course of testing some tricks, like querying BT services on the phone, l2ping-ing and so on.

The techs in Nokia support hotline suggested testing of the configuration supported by Nokia (specific version of Windows and BlueSoleil, because I have such a dongle available in Windows computer), and in case of malfunctioning, sending phone to repair (the Nokia support site said that I already have the latest fw version for my model).

Im now stuck, because the device Im using is borrowed for testing. I need a stable device for HSDPA and I don't know whether to buy E51 or some other device. The plus of E51 is that I know its faults, and I can hope the item I have is simply damaged. I don't know what are the faults of other types...

Of course, I'm scared of updating, maybe the thing my get worse :smileywink:
