All we are saying, is give peace a chance.......

dom_dom, vmoisa,

The f/w upgrade is coming any day now (I hope, I hope). Let's break it down into sections.

Vmoisa, you are good at product usability testing from a practical standpoint. How about you keep a real-time blog going of hits, misses, wishes. Dom_dom might be able to assist you. I will mention this to my friends at Nokia and see how things might go for the next upgrade.

Trust me, if some of the things I need fixed with my E90 are not addressed, you will be second in line after me filing complaint after complaint. What is important, is not what was, but what is now. The old Communicators are gone, gone, gone and not coming back, so we have to concentrate on the future.

Show the KUDOS button some love.... Hit that bad boy.... It don't hurt....

I still consider this forum to be the best place for reviewing Nokia phones, mainly because it is public and hosted by Nokia. A blog might or might not be read by Nokia. At least my messages are mainly for Nokia: whether they read this forum or not is their choice.

Old is gone, but history is best reference. And again, mobile users are behind and in current, not in future. I'm not here to discuss future devices, but providing feedback what I have in hands right now. From that point of view, i've recommended my frends not to update new communicator. 9300i & 9500 are not gone, as many people still use those.

The last posted new application for S80/9300/9500 from a 3rd party SW house was registered in April 2007.
Since then there have been several hundred registered for S60.3 /E90.

?

I did not say E90 is not used as well. Of cource you install applications soon after you purchase device? But you can still use device year or two? And that is clear point, that with E90 you need quite much 3rd party sw with cost.

In development, yes, S80 is dead. That's clear. But takes at least year to most users to drop that, and downgrade to S60 communicator.

What's the time needed for a new firmware to be used for new manufactured phone? I don't have a E90 yet, but am interested to get one. I'd rather get one of the lastest production batch though, and with the new firmware if possible. The problem is that it still doesn't seem to be available in Belgium at this moment :smileysad:

I think you can't get this answer. As first, devices with new FW should leave from factory. Then all old FW sold out before replacing with new FW.

Can be from weeks to months I think. Depends is there what level of proplems in existing FW.

Re: All we are saying, is give peace a chance.......

If one takes for example the E90 the first production units to be sold/released were during second week of July.
There was a firware update released during the following week.

The next FW release is very imminent.

One of the reasons that it is still not available is there needs to be a improvement/change in the Nokia SW updater...there is a new version, but it has some header rejection problems with some corporate fire walls.

Turo sorry I did not make my earleir post clearer..
The reason why there have been no new S80 3rd party applications since April, is nothing to do with E90/S60..it is because it was then deemed that S80 has/had security problems, and was also too unstable. That was not a Nokia decision...but the unstability was one of the main reasons for going to S60.3.
S80 would not have been good enough for the E90s needs.
By the way I use both 9300 and E90..because some of my favorite applications do not yet have equivalent for E90/S60.3.

Ok, thanks for clarifying :smileywink:3rd party seems to be hot potato. Mobile features and usbility in mobiles is nowdays secondary.

Stability statement I disagree though. At least when looking 3rd party sw in E90 & in 9500. But again, in 9500 not much extra was needed (like bigger fonts from 10 euros)

Ok. Now when 3rd party are happy with symbian signed, business is fine and everybody are happy :smileyhappy:

Re: All we are saying, is give peace a chance.......

3rd party products could be fine.

Problem is INTEGRATION ! How far will these 3rd party products be integrated in the E90 ?

Nearly none of them are able to provide a full functionality solution, meaning you may need more then one sw to have a complete coverage of your needs.

Will they be compatible each other ?

Then, last point, who will give the support if you loose data, or something is going wrong with the E90 ?

3rd party producer ? Nokia ? None of them ??
How long will it take to get the final support ?

In reality, having to use 3rd party products just allows Nokia to not provide support, or at least less support to the E90 !

Is that acceptable for such a highend smartphone ???
My guess is no, but sure some seem to be happy with this.

I did not explain properly. I propose that we keep everything right here. There is only a slight chance that Nokia will really drop by to read this forum. Being hosted by Nokia does not mean that anyone influential within Nokia will be bothered to read it. The best way to contact them is to use the "Contact us" link above.

What I actually meant was that you could keep a running tally of old vs new when the f/w comes out. I in turn would ask my friends at Nokia to have a look or I could mail the list to them and see what happens next.

Re: All we are saying, is give peace a chance.......

Guys Just my 2 cents, we all feel strongly one way or another re the E90 and its place in the sun as a communicator etc also I think expression of views and debate is healthy and if Nokia picks up something or not from our disscussions thats for them to decide. its here its available and i think its a good idea for them to do so. either way WHAT WE ALL SHOULD AVOID in my oppinion is to add emotion and make it personal. I just want to learn more about this phone and share and exchange ideas with people who are just as passionate and intrigued by this device and its technology. so lets keep it on the up and up OK? thanks
